The progress the students made over the two week swimming block has been amazing. A special thanks must go to Jane Fitzgerald for teaching the children, to our volunteers, Julie and Mingnon for dedicating their own personal time to help our students and all the parents who came along to help as well. A huge thank you must go to our dedicated staff- Nikiesha, Claire and Steve who were willing to hop in the pool with the students to ensure their safety and to assist in teaching the skills. All students swam amazingly and congratulations must go to Clarke on narrowly winning the day. Well done to Damon Grigg and Sienna Chamberlain as our 2017 swimming champions. Parents Club once again provided a lovely lunch for us all which we thank them for as well. Welcome back to Suesan, who was able to return to work this week. As you all know Suesan has injured her ankle and has had to take time off work. Whilst she is still wheel chair bound, she has come back to school and we are so excited to see her again. She does still have a long recovery ahead of her but we all wish her the very best and she has our full support. Ian, our cleaner, had an operation two weeks ago and is recovering well. Thankyou to Janet who has filled this position in Ian s absence. Ian will be returning next week. All families were sent home some raffle tickets to sell for the SRC - Easter Raffle. Could these please be returned ASAP. This will be drawn on the last day of school. Just a reminder that our School Council AGM will be held on Tuesday 21 st March, and on that note, school council nominations need to be in by Monday 6 th December. Due to our larger number of students this year, we have decided to run Parent Teacher Interviews over two nights, but more information will be sent out closer to the date. Attached to our last newsletter was an information sheet for financial assistance for camps, excursions, swimming programs and educational expenses for parents who hold a concession card. If you are eligible, please get a form from me ASAP and fill it out. I will also need to sight your concession card. We will hopefully see you all at Lake Bringlbert on Sunday 5th March. Also, please remember that Monday 13th March is a public holiday! Tanya Turner

This week Nikiesha is going to wash the aprons, and Nanna Mary washed everything from making Lemon Butter, but to make it fair we have come up with an apron washing roster. If you are rostered on, your child will be sent home with a black washing basket with aprons and tea towels. Please return everything before the next coking session ( a fortnight away). On Friday Apsley Primary School went to the Aquatic Centre for swimming in Edenhope. Everyone was there, family, friends, grandparents and volunteers. Then everyone got their lunch (provided by parent club) and started to get ready for the first event. The first race was the tunnel race where Clarke won. Then it was the sinker race and Ballantyne won. Then it was the missile race and Clarke came first and Ballantyne came second. Next, was the 25m freestyle race where Damon came first, Riley came second and Hamish came third. There were more races, and then towards the end we had a diving competition. I was the only girl competing and Hamish, Damon, Riley and Matthew were the diving boys. Riley won the diving competition. The last race for the day was Dress the Captain. This is a relay race where each person took an item of clothing to their house captain and they had to get dressed up. The first captain who got fully dressed and swam across the pool was the winner. Ballantyne won this race. At the end of the day we had the awards presentation. Clarke won with an average of 24.6 points per person and Ballantyne had an average of 24.2 points per person. I won the girls champion medal and Damon won the boy champion medal. After presentations we got to have a free swim. On Friday we had a swimming sports at Edenhope. I did it all with my friends and tried my best in all of my races, for my team. I especially loved having my family and teachers encourage me. It all happened on Feb 24th. When I got to school we organised the swimming gear. I put my bathers on. Next I got all zinced up. After that we all got on the bus and went to Edenhope. Everybody was excited. When we arrived at Edenhope we had salad rolls for lunch. Ballantyne got their food first because they had a louder cheer. But we all got lunch. I had a ham and cheese roll. It was DELISH. The first race was the tunnel relay. Everybody was in it except for the Foundation Students. I felt like I was doing really well. It also felt like we were going through a real tunnel but it was made of people. But Ballantyne won again. The first individual race was the swim across the pool race A. Luke, Alex, Sienna and I did it. I felt like I was going to win but I came second. It felt like I was soaring through the water, But Sienna won. After all of the sports we got some FREE TIME! I went to the deep end with Maggie M, Grace and Maggie T. We all jumped off the edge. Maggie lost her stripy ribbon so we all started diving down to the bottom of the pool to get it. I almost got it but I ran out of breath, then Maggie M got it. At the end of the day we had presentations. Clarke won by less than half a point (average per person) and the team was really, really happy. Alex collected the trophy and made a really good speech thanking everyone for helping and congratulating the students for doing a great job. Everybody had a great time and we hope that next year Hamish, Luke and Alex go well in the high school swimming sports. Charlotte Ellul
