Nayda Torres asked to be able to speak first and discussed the Legislative initiative dealing with Families and 4-H. She wanted to remind everyone that we cannot lobby but can provide information for those that ask. The University is asking for $1.34 million for 4-H support, which will include 6 additional positions. This initiative will provide for major changes in support of the programs and will enhance programs dramatically. Legislatures need to be visited by willing clientele during the months of September through November. If you would like more information, please come to the reception. Minutes: Properly moved and seconded, motion to accept the minutes as read approved. Treasurers Report: The budget was discussed. There are 83 renewals (not 80 as announced). That adds additional money to the budget. It was proposed that $400 be added to the National meeting line item. The BJ Allen and Professional Improvement scholarships have been reduced to $400 due to shift in interest rates. As of now there are 43 renewals, 4 new members and one new life member. Remember, you cannot be a life member until after you retire. 26 members helped to offset the deficit by donating money at the mid year meeting. Mary Williams will
sponsor the MSA award. Please make sure you send her a thank you card. Nicole moved to accept the Treasurer s report. It was properly seconded and the motion passed. EPAF Board: Yolanda gave the EPAF report. This year the EPAF board reduced the meal cost by combining meals. They also discussed the Association of Counties meeting. Martha also wanted to make sure that officers understood that both the President and President Elect serve on the EPAF board. Past Presidents may also serve as non-voting members. It is also important to remember that next year s 2 nd Vice will be the Chair of EPAF in 2010. Please watch your rotations. Recognition of New members: Marcus recognized the following new members: Joy Borgman Jessica Bowden Christian Chervenock Mildred Melvin Stephanie Smith Martha Webster Barbara Worley Marcus also announced that there were 38 renewals, 1 new life member and 7 new agents. Please use the new invoice if you haven t already paid and get those back ASAP. Also, please try to recruit new members. Seek new life members. Remember, the number of members reflects the number of DSA and ASA award winners we can have. Lynne reminded everyone that to please send the invoice with the check. November 15 is the deadline. Project Butterfly: Mark Hofstetler spoke about project butterfly Wings. See Attached. Committee Reports: Member Services Shelda Wilkens This year there were 6 Southern Region Winners. Debbie Nistler, Robert Strong, Marcus Boston, Heather Kent and Pam Phillippe. There were also a record number of entries. Jean Hink will be member services chair next year. Audit Andy Toelle February 18 an audit was performed. No irregularities were found. Important that the Treasurer doesn t sign checks to herself. Make sure that everything is paid within 60 days. Make sure that all checks have a check request form. Public Relations Christa Carlson Promoting the Florida Association of Counties. Everyone will now be under one umbrella. Chair will be Robert Strong. Please sign up for the committee if you would like to help. June 27 29 Marco Island. Special Awards Jean Hink Please sign up for this committee. Please also apply for the awards. This year we did a better job of promoting ourselves. 9 award categories though, had no applicants. Everything is due in March and it s all electronic. Please look at the Agenteer for information on awards. Judy thanked Shelda for setting up an award exhibit. Martha reminded everyone that awards look good when applying for promotion and tenure. News and Views Nicole Walker The committee right now is Kristen, Robert, Lynne and Nicole. The deadline for submission is September 23. Please submit any kind of ideas, research articles, web sites, stories, etc. Nominating Suzanne Wilson 40 plus counties voted. They were emailed, faxed and mailed back. Diversity Amy Duncan Nicole is the National Chair and we will be submitting articles. Reports: Southern Region Report Judy Butterfield 33 agents in LA lost everything in Hurricane Katrina. 5 6 agents are still unaccounted for in MS. Please read your emails on how we can help. This year the National Board is promoting the professional as well as the profession. Subject matter is YOUTH. This week, Marilyn, Marilyn and Mary are in Colorado at training The Art of Leadership. The National Board is concerned that there are awards that are not being applied for. They are working on that. There is a new research journal on line now. Please take time to review. This year you will be able to vote on line for National officers even if you are not at the meeting. Please read your email for more information on that. National Chairs: Nicole (Diversity), Debbie N (Programs), Vickie Mullins (Youth Task Force). Thank you everyone for all your help and support.
