DANNY MANNING Kansas 91 Head Basketball Coach SECOND YEAR Basketball Staff Manning is in his second season as head coach at The University of Tulsa. In his first year, the Golden Hurricane posted a 17-16 overall record and an 8-8 mark in Conference USA play, finishing fifth in the league regular season. With the fifth-least-experience team in the nation in 2012-13 and battling injuries all season, TU advanced to the semifinals of the Conference USA Championship and played in the CBI postseason tournament. Two Hurricane players, James Woodard and D Andre Wright, were selected to the C-USA All-Freshman Team. One of college basketball s most outstanding players in the history of the sport, Manning became The University of Tulsa s 29th Head Basketball Coach on March 29, 2012, just days before he would be coaching in the NCAA Final Four as a member of the University of Kansas staff. Manning spent nine seasons on the KU men s basketball staff. In March 2007, he was named assistant coach for the Jayhawks. During his time on staff at Kansas, Manning has been part of one NCAA national title, two Final Fours, five NCAA Elite Eight appearances, eight Big 12 regular season conference titles, five Big 12 tournament championships and 269 career victories. As an assistant coach from 2007-12, KU compiled an overall 164-24 mark for an.872 winning percentage. As an assistant coach in 2008 and player in 1988, Manning was on the floor for KU s last two national championships. In 2011-12, Manning helped lead the Jayhawks back to the NCAA Final Four with an overall 32-7 record and a Big 12 Conference regular season championship. The Jayhawks defeated Ohio State in a semifinal game before dropping a nine-point decision against No. 1-ranked Kentucky in the championship game. In his role as KU assistant coach, Manning worked with the Jayhawk big men and earned a reputation as one of the best coaches of big men in the country. He coached 12 NBA draft picks, including eight first round selections. Kansas bigs among those NBA draft picks during his tenure included Wayne Simien, Julian Wright, Darrell Arthur, Darnell Jackson, Sasha Kaun, Cole Aldrich, twins Marcus and Markieff Morris and Jeff Withey. Manning recruited two McDonald s High School All-Americans, including 2010 NBA first-round draft pick and Oklahoman Xavier Henry. He also coached two Academic All-Americans Cole Aldrich and Tyrel Reed. Aldrich was selected as the 2010 Academic All-America of the Year for men s basketball. From 2003 until 2007, Manning served as the Director of Student-Athlete Development/Team Manager at KU. In that position, Manning was the team travel coordinator, oversaw equipment ordering and distribution and organized and assisted in the youth holiday clinic and summer camp program. In 2004-05, Manning also took on many director of operations duties for Kansas.

Kansas Head Coach Bill Self, a person who knows the Tulsa basketball program well, having served as the Hurricane head coach from 1997-2000, had this to say about Manning Danny Manning is one of the most accomplished, humble people you ll ever meet. He s done more in his life through the athletic world than just about anybody, but you would never know it in visiting with him as he never ever talks about himself. His focus on deciding to be a basketball coach was to try to share some of his knowledge and make others better. He s certainly done that at a very high level with us here at Kansas. He s been around basketball his whole life, played for so many coaches, been able to steal from everybody and has developed a vast knowledge that will certainly play a huge role in his success as a head coach. Although 46 years old, he s well beyond those in basketball years as far as experience. The University of Tulsa has not only hired a great person and a great ambassador, but also a man that will lead Tulsa to great heights athletically and be competing for championships in a very short amount of time. Self added, I mean, who wouldn t want their son to be mentored by a guy who has everything you want your son to be? Think about it: he graduated, won a national championship, and was the No. 1 pick in the draft, an Olympian, two-time NBA all-star, family man, has his priorities straight. Who wouldn t want their son mentored by a guy like that on a daily basis? A Jayhawk legend, Manning is Kansas all-time leading scorer and rebounder, racking up 2,951 points and 1,187 boards in his illustrious four-year career. Manning, the eighth all-time leading scorer in NCAA history, was named a consensus first-team All-America selection in 1987 and 1988, the consensus College Player of the Year in 1988 and a three-time Big Eight Conference Player of the Year (1986, 1987 and 1988). Manning was named the 1988 NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player en route to leading the Jayhawks to an 83-79 victory over Oklahoma for the 1988 national championship. He was also named the MVP of the NCAA Midwest Regional in 1986 and 1988. The 1986 KU squad finished 35-4 and advanced to the Final Four in Dallas. Manning won a Bronze Medal as a member of the 1988 USA Olympic Team. The No. 1 overall pick in the 1988 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Clippers, Manning played for seven different professional teams -- the Clippers, Hawks, Suns, Bucks, Jazz, Mavericks and Pistons. He boasts averages of 14.0 points and 5.2 rebounds per game during his NBA career, spanning 883 total games. Manning was a two-time NBA All-Star (1993 and 1994), and won the league s Sixth Man Award in 1998. During his playing days, Manning was a representative for the NBA Players Association. In 2005, Manning became part of a 20-person committee to help select the U.S. Olympic basketball team and its coaches. Additionally, Manning has been an ambassador for the Governor s Council on Fitness for the state of Kansas and a guest lecturer with university classes and other KU athletic teams.

Manning was inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame on November 23, 2008. In addition to his College Basketball Hall of Fame enshrinement, in June 2008 Manning was named to the Guilford County Sports Hall of Fame for his early high school career at Page High School in North Carolina. He is also a member of the Lawrence (Kan.) High School Hall of Fame. Manning (born 5-17-66) earned his degree in Communication from Kansas in 1991. He and his wife, Julie, have two children -- daughter Taylor, a student at KU, and son Evan, a walk-on with the Kansas basketball team. Basketball Staff BRETT BALLARD Kansas 03 Assistant Basketball Coach SECOND YEAR Brett Ballard is in his second season on the Golden Hurricane coaching staff. Before coming to Tulsa, he spent two seasons as the head basketball coach at Baker (Kan.) University. In two seasons at Baker, Ballard registered a 33-30 overall record, including a 21-12 mark this past season and a runner-up finish in the 2012 Heart of America Athletic Conference. In 2011-12, Baker advanced to the school s first Heart of America Athletic Conference championship game in 15 years and capped that with an NAIA national tournament berth, the first since 1996. Coach Ballard had a tremendous impact on our men s basketball program during his time at the helm, said Baker University Athletics Director Theresa Yetmer. Under his leadership we ascended to the HAAC Championship game and returned to the national tournament for the first time since 1995-96. Baker University President Pat Long added Brett did exactly what we asked of him to bring a new level of play and excitement to our basketball program. He did just that and more. He became a leader on campus and within the community. Before his appointment at Baker, Ballard spent seven years on the basketball staff at the University of Kansas. He was the director of basketball operations for two years, and before that he served as the administrative assistant/ video coordinator for four years. In 2003-04, Ballard was a student assistant for the Jayhawks after two seasons playing on the KU basketball team. Ballard oversaw the academic progress of the Jayhawks, worked closely with the off-season strength and conditioning program, assisted with on-campus recruiting, team travel and team video. Ballard was also the camp director for the Bill Self Basketball Camps. Ballard organized and directed over 2,500 campers and also coordinated and directed the Coaches Clinic, the Winter Clinic and the Wilt Chamberlain Special Olympics Clinic. KU basketball was highly successful during Ballard s time with the Jayhawks staff. They won the 2008 national championship, advanced to three NCAA Tournament Elite Eights, won or tied for the Big 12 regular season championship four times and claimed three conference postseason tournaments. There have been 18 players advance to the professional basketball ranks that Ballard has been associated with during his coaching tenure. Ballard played two years for the Jayhawks -- 2001 and 2002 -- after transferring from Hutchinson Community College in his hometown of Hutchinson, Kan. A guard, Ballard played in 56 career games, scoring 59 points and dishing out 32 assists. KU went a combined 59-11 in his two seasons as a Jayhawk, including appearing in the 2001 NCAA Sweet Sixteen and the 2002 NCAA Final Four in Atlanta, Ga. Ballard earned his bachelor s degree in secondary education from Kansas in 2003. He was named an Academic All-Big 12 selection as a senior for his efforts in the classroom. Ballard and his wife Kelly have three children: sons Kaden and Brooks, and daughter Breagan.

Basketball Staff WENDELL MOORE Georgia Southern 93 Assistant Basketball Coach SECOND YEAR Wendell Moore is in his second season on the Golden Hurricane coaching staff. He came to Tulsa following four seasons (2008-12) as an assistant coach at UMKC. Before his stint at UMKC, Moore served as an assistant coach at Florida Atlantic University for two years (2006-08). Before moving to FAU, Moore spent two seasons (2004-06) as an assistant coach at Redlands Community College in El Reno, Okla. During his two-year stint, the Cougars posted a 50-10 overall record, and they were the regional championship runner-up in 2005. He helped coach four student-athletes to junior college All-America honors, while Redlands posted the top grade point average (3.43) in the nation. Prior to joining the collegiate ranks, Moore spent five seasons as the head coach at Wyandotte (Kan.) High School, where he competed against the top prep teams in Kansas City, Kan. In 2004, he guided the Bulldogs to a 14-7 overall record and all five of his starters went on to receive college basketball scholarships. One of his players, Keith Boo Richardson, was a Class 5A All-State selection before going on to earn First-Team Junior College All-America accolades. Moore played collegiate basketball for two seasons at Georgia Southern, where he helped lead the 1991-92 squad to the Trans-American Athletic Conference (TAAC) Championship and the NCAA Tournament with a school record 25 wins. During the historic season, Moore helped the Eagles set school records for single-season steals (72) and three-point field goal percentage (.470). For his play, Moore earned TAAC all-conference honors and was named CBS/Chevrolet s Most Valuable Player at the NCAA Tournament.
