New Digital Collection on Early Iowa State Extension Work Now Available Reflections on ISU Extension was created in conjunction with the centennial of the 1914 Smith Lever Act, which established a system of cooperative extension. You can pull up digital copies of the collection. Direct link at http://www.add.lib.iastate.edu/preserv/cdm/isuext.html. Lesson plans for short courses. Photographs. Livestock short course questions. Fascinating information for people interested in agriculture. Be careful you could spend a lot of time looking at things in the collection! DuPont Pioneer Seed Grants for Community Improvement Projects The Iowa 4-H office is happy to report that the DuPont Pioneer Seed Grants are back for Fall 2014 and Spring 2015. We are accepting grants for Fall 2014 now through Dec. 1, 2014. Applications should be turned into County Extension offices by Saturday, Nov. 15. We will open spring applications in March. 4-H clubs can find information, tips for applicants, and applications for these grants on the Iowa 4-H website at: http://www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/pioneergrants. Grants will be awarded for anywhere from $50 to $500 but typically will not exceed half of the cost of the total project as groups are encouraged to work at obtaining local support as a match. Successful projects are those that enlist partnerships with other community entities, demonstrate engagement by the full 4-H club, and make a positive impact on the community. 4-H Volunteer Training The Heart of Belonging Join 4-H leaders from across Woodbury County in an interactive, hands on training that will help volunteers create a fun, safe, inclusive environment for all youth. Belonging is identified as a basic 4-H youth need and supportive, caring adults guide youth in creating an environment that is welcoming and engaging for all. During this training, 4-H leaders will learn how to guide youth in developing a list of club or group expectations that accommodates all members, learn how to support youth with special needs, and discover resources to help them in their role as caring adults. In addition, volunteers will learn new activities to take back their clubs and groups to foster positive behavior and belonging. This training is part of the statewide leader training and will be held on Tuesday, November 11 in Moville at the Woodbury County Fairgrounds and Tuesday, December 2 in Sioux City at the Woodbury County Extension Office. Both trainings will start with a supper at 6:30 p.m. followed by training at 7:00 p.m. OUR VISION A WORLD IN WHICH YOUTH AND ADULTS LEARN, GROW, AND WORK TOGETHER AS CATALYSTS FOR POSTIVE CHANGE 6
