Champions League Chelsea vs Roma 3-3

Match Statistics

Overall - AS Roma Roma played with a 4-3-3 classic In possession of the ball the 2 defensive wings number 11 (Kolarov) and number 25 (Bruno Perez) were moving up so it was like a 2-5-3 The left offensive wing, number 8 (Perrotti) during attacking, used to cut in quite often to leave the space for the left back wing, number 11 (Kolarov) The first half Roma had the most of the possession and was playing the ball better than Chelsea even if was down 2-0. The first half ended 2-1 for Chelsea. Attacking wise, Roma had some chances in the first half. Most of the attacking were coming from the left were he number 8 (Perrotti) used to cross a lot for number 9 (Dzeko) or cutting in to finish by himself Most of the attacks were coming from the center and the left sides. In non possession Roma was defending 4-4-2

In the second half Roma moved up the defence line. The team was pressing very high and the 3 strikers were trying to close all the spaces and Chelsea s defenders first pass. The midfielders were trying to intercept the ball as soon as possible. All the team was compacted in 25-30m The second half until the 2-3 Roma was with all the defenders in the Chelsea s side. Roma scored the 2-2 and some minutes later they scored the 2-3. Roma substituted Gerson with Pellegrini, who played as right mid, and Nainggolan went to play as an offensive right wing. Roma was switching between a classic 4-3-3 to a 4-3-1-2 with Nainggolan free to play in between the lines as a makeshift striker When Florenzi went in to sub Strootman, he went to play on the right wing, becoming the offensive right striker. Nainggolan went to play on the left becoming left mid and Pellegrini was the right mid After the 3-3, in possession of the ball Roma was playing with a 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 In non possession of the ball, Roma was defending with a 4-3-2-1 After the 3-3 Roma was defending with a classic 4-5-1 El Shaarawy came in and Perrotti went out.

Overall - Chelsea Chelsea played with a 3-5-2 classic. In possession of the ball was more similar to a 3-4-1-2. In non possession of the ball was a 5-3-2 Attacking wise, in the first half Chelsea even if was ahead 2-0 and 2-1 at the end, was mostly playing with a counterattack strategy. In the second half when Pedro substituted David Luiz, Chelsea changed the system to a 3-4-3 In possession of the ball they adopted a super attacking approach trying to equalize such as a 3-3-1-3 Defending wise, Chelsea the first half was using a 5-3-2. Chelsea was able to equalize and the 3-3 came at the minute 70. The second half after the equalizer, in non possession Chelsea was playing with a 5-4-1

AS Roma Players Evaluation

#1 He didn't have to make many saves Couple times he had to come out to close the net to Morata In the overall his performance was good. He was always ready and sharp. He read the game properly

#2 His game was ok. Usually his presence in the opponents side is more frequent In this game he has been more careful to defend than attacking especially against Hazard. He was able to give his support to the team especially in the defending phase Defending was fine. Attacking quite poor according to his characteristics

#20 He did a great game in terms of defending. He also assisted with a great long pass Dzeko for the 2-2 He made a huge mistake dribbling the ball but Allyson saved it He marked Morata very well when he was on his side of the field He won all the header duels against his opponents in the eighteen box

#5 He did a great game especially marking Morata He made a huge mistake controlling the ball on a possession. But Allyson was good to block the threat In the second half he was following Morata also in Chelsea's side. Attacking and pressing the opponents high (just like the Ajax s defenders at the time of Cruyff) He has been very keen an always ready to interpreter and read the best solution

#11 He had a great game and he scored as well. His goal gave Roma the chance to still stay in the game. (2-1 is way better than 2-0 at half time) He constantly attacked the opponents side and was a great support in most of the Roma s attacks. He also made the assist for the 2-3 for Dzeko. In the second half when Chelsea switched to a 3-4-3 he marked Pedro very well limiting his strengths His performance was great in both phases of the game and in both possession of the ball.

#4 As usual his performance was great in terms of quantity and quality He presence on the field his always sharp in both sides, phases and possession He changed his position couple times but his performance didn't change. He was the first one pressing and intercepting without the ball. In possession he was the first attacking the space from behind and between the lines He had a great chance to score at the beginning of the match and another one in the second half

#21 His game was very diligent He was always ready to receive the ball and serve the central striker and/or the wings He also had the role of making the team shorter in term of distance between the lines and more compacted His vision and mentality was good considering that his position is one of the key point in the field and during game

#6 He also had a great game as everyone else on the field His presence in the game was constant in both possession phases. A lot of quantity and running. He constantly pressed and attacked the opponents. In the second half he was attacking them in their half of the field His duties during the game were more focused on defending than attacking. For this reason, his presence in the opponents area wasn't so strong as usual.

#30 His game was ok until he had an injure He helped the team a lot during the pressing and the defensive stage More quantity than quality in this game. In the second half in non possession he moved down to the line of the midfielders E had a great chance in the first half but attacking was poor.

#9 His game was amazing and he scored two goals. The first one was an unbelievable shoot on volley. Great technique, coordination and sense of the position He constantly helped his team in both phases and during corner kicks. He gave the team always two attacking options. Crossing from the wings and/ or with a direct attack from the center. He's been a huge trouble for the Chelsea's defenders. He was smart to play between them in terms of attacking the space and pressing them.

#8 He had a very good game. His great technique skills and unpredictability have been a key factor during the game Chelsea's defenders had trouble marking him. He was an hustle for them. He played on the left wing He alternated crossing from the wing to cutting inside and shooting He has a great chance in the first half. In the second half, he was sharp and ready to optimize a counterattack that ended up with a free kick from which Roma scored the 2-3.

#7 He substituted Gerson and played as right mid. His game was diligent. He did what he has been told to do. Pressing the opponents and be ready to attack the space when the chance was clear He did a lot of dirty work especially trough the end More quantity than quality but he did well

#24 He substituted Stootman. He played as a right offensive wing As always his presence on the field was strong. A lot of running an ups and downs on the wing Great attitude and spirit to offering help. Mentally strong and prepared. The impact on the game was positive Did both phases perfectly and at the end from one of his crosses Roma almost scored the 3-4

#92 He substituted Perrotti. He didn't play a lot of minutes but he contributed to the cause Since he was in Roma in not possession was with 4-5-1. Instead in possession was with 4-2-3-1 He did both phases good and he tried to cover all the wing supporting his teammates during the defending phase He pressed and run a lot as he was fresh but he also was ready to attack when he had the chance
