THE FINALS RUN The ultimate round of Zone 10 s home-and-away 2017 Pennants season Grade 1 Zone Final to be played Saturday May 20 th at Carlingford BC State Finals Qualifier: NBC Sports Grade 1 Metro Play-off Qualifier: Wenty Leagues or Merrylands BC Zone 10 Pennant Playoff: NBC Sports vs Wenty Leagues or Merrylands BC NBC Sports have secured their berth in the Grade 1 State Finals winning Section 2 of the Grade 1 Metropolitan Conference. We wish them well in the State Finals at St Johns Park/Cabra Vale Diggers. Wenty Leagues (58 pts) play Merrylands (57.5pts) in round 10 at Home, with a win for either team advancing them to the Grade 1 Sydney Metro Playoffs and the Zone 10 Pennant Final. Wenty Leagues scored a 10-0, 70-57 victory last time they met, Merrylands looking to reverse that result to continue their season. Grade 2 Zone Final to be played on Saturday May 27 at Carlingford BC. Finalists: Merrylands (1) vs (Gladesville or The Hills) Merrylands (1) clinched their Finals berth with a 10-0 victory over Castle Hill in round 9. Gladesville (55.5pts) are currently sitting 2 nd in Grade 2 and can become the other finalist if they score 4 points or more against Merrylands (1) at Gladesville this Saturday. They can still qualify if they do not score a point if The Hills do not win their match against NBC Sports (as below) by better than 7 pts. (previous match: Merrylands(1) def. Gladesville 9-1, 87-37). The Hills (48.5 pts) need to win at home in their match against last placed NBC Sports (previous match: NBC Sports def. The Hills 9-1, 63-54) and also hope that Gladesville do not secure at least 4 points as above.
Zone Final to be played on Saturday May 27 at Castle Hill Finalists: (Wenty Leagues or Toongabbie) vs (Greenlees Park) Wenty Leagues (73 pts) have a 10 point lead over Toongabbie (63 pts) coming into the final round and need to score only half a point in their game against last placed Beecroft (previous match: Wenty def Beecroft 10-0, 73-36) to take out Section 1 and score a Finals berth. Toongabbie still have the slimmest of hopes to make the Finals, needing a 10-0 victory over Carlingford at home (previous result: Toongabbie def Carlingford 10-0, 61-50) and to hope Wenty Leagues suffer a monumental collapse against Beecroft. Greenlees Park (70.5 pts) secured their place in the Finals by taking out Section 2 via way of a nail bitting 8-2 round 9 win over Brush Park 64-61. Grade 4 Zone Final to be played on Saturday May 27 at Castle Hill Finalists: (NBC Sports or Merrylands) vs (Wenty Leagues or Ryde X Phoenix or Denistone Sports) Carrying on from season 2016, Grade 4 again is proving to be an extremely hard fought Grade NBC Sports (67.5pts) hold a narrow lead coming into round 10 over 2 nd placed Merrylands (61pts), requiring just 4 pts from their last round clash against Castle Hill at Castle Hill to take out Section 1 and gain a place in the finals (previous result: Castle Hill def NBC Sports 8-2, 54-46). Given that result, Merrylands are a legitimate chance to overtake NBC Sports at the final hurdle, requiring a better than 7 point margin as compared to NBC Sports in the final round, a win against last placed Putney Tennyson away (previous result: Merrylands won 10-0, 81-39) and an NBC Sports loss of greater than 6 pts will see them sneak into the Finals. Things in Section 2 are very tense, with three teams still a chance to make the Finals, separated by just 7.5pts. Wenty Leagues (66.5pts) are in the box seat and a win, or the earning of just 4 pts from their clash with Ryde X (previous result: Wenty def Ryde X 9-1, 58-47) will see them capture the section. Ryde X Phoenix (59pts) are not quite masters of their own destiny, as although an 8-2 or better win over Wenty Leagues will catapult them ahead of Wenty, Denistone Sports (59pts) can still better them with a 9-1 win over The Hills (whom they defeated 8-2, 63-56 when last they met). With their superior for and against (55 shots ahead of Denistone), Ryde X Phoenix can almost assure themselves of a playoff spot with a 10-0 win over the Magpies.
Zone Final to be played on Saturday May 27 at Merrylands BC Finalists: (Greenlees Park or North Ryde or RSL Putney Tennyson) vs (NBC Sports or Dural CC) Greenlees Park (59pts) top section 1 and can seal their place in the Finals with an 8.5-1.5 victory over Toongabbie at Toongabbie (previous result Toongabbie def Greenlees Pk 9.5-.5, 64-48). Second placed North Ryde RSL (57pts) who play 3 rd placed Putney Tennyson at home (previous result: North Ryde def Putney 9-1, 69-47), will be hoping for a repeat of first round results, as a Greenlees Park loss and a North Ryde victory will see them claim the section title. Putney Tennyson (49pts) cling to a very small glimmer of hope, needing Greenlees Park to lose 0-10, whilst defeating North Ryde RSL 10-0 with a hefty margin (currently 46 shots behind Greenlees on for and against). The other section is one of the tightest in this year s competition, with NBC Sports (67.5pts) sitting atop the table just 1 point clear of Dural Country Club (66.5pts), but with a far superior for and against margin of 113 shots. These two teams clash in the final round at NBC Sports, making the math to the determine the section winner simple Dural CC need to win the game by better than 5.5 pts to continue to the finals, otherwise NBC Sports will be finals bound in 2017 (previous result: Dural CC def NBC Sports 8.5-1.5, 62-57).
Grade 6 Zone Semi-Finals & Final to be played on Saturday May 27 At Merrylands BC Finalists: Sec 1 (NBC Sports or Ryde X or WPH Sports); Sec 2 (Toongabbie or Castle Hill); Sec 3 (Denistone Sports or The Hills); Best Ranked Qualifier (Toongabbie Sports or Castle Hill or Denistone Sports or The Hills) Section 1 has three teams still in contention for a possible Semi-Final berth, with each playing a neutral team in the final round. NBC Sports (59pts) currently lead the section and need a mere 6 points from their final round clash at home against Wenty Leagues (previous result NBC Sports def. Wenty 9-1, 65-56) to take out the section. Ryde X Phoenix (55.5pts) in 2 nd place are a reasonable chance of eclipsing NBC Sports, sitting just 3.5 points behind. They need to earn a 4 point or better margin compared to NBC Sports from their Final round clash against Concord RSL at Concord (previous result Ryde X def Concord 9-1, 67-43). WPH Sports (49.5pts) need a miracle, requiring 10 points in their match against Rydalmere and for BOTH NBC and Ryde X to lose. Toongabbie (65.5pts) have the bye in the last round, so cannot add to their current point total, however even if they do not win the section 2, they will qualify for the Finals courtesy of a superior point per round margin as the next best qualifier. Should Castle Hill (59pts) defeat Merrylands away by more than 7 points (Previous result Castle Hill won 10-0, 94-36), they will take out the section, but even a loss where they score 3 points or more also guarantees them a place in the Finals as the next best ranked qualifier. Denistone Sports (70 pts) will play away against Pennant Hills, an 8-2 or better victory assuring them of a spot in the playoffs (previous result Denistone def. Penno 10-0, 81-44). The Hills (67pts) have a three point and 33 shot differential to make-up going into their last round match against North Ryde and likely need at least a draw on the big board to give them any hope of clinching the section. Should Castle Hill lose in their final match in Section 2, both Denistone Sports and The Hills are a hope of making the playoffs as a wildcard, next best ranked qualifier.
Grade 7 Zone Semi-Finals and Final to be played on Saturday June 27 at WPH Sports Finalists: Sec 1 (NBC Sports or Merrylands); Sec 2 Dundas Sports; Sec 3 (Carlingford or Wenty Leagues); Best Ranked Qualifier (Carlingford or NBC Sports or Merrylands or Brush Park or Wenty Leagues) NBC Sports (49.5pts) can give themselves a chance at winning back to back Grade 7 titles with a win this Saturday against 2 nd place Merrylands (47.5pts). Merrylands hold their fate in their own hands, any big board victory at home this weekend leap frogging them over NBC Sports into the finals (previous result Merrylands def. NBC Sports 10-0, 69-53). Both teams can still qualify for the finals from 2 nd place in their section dependant on the results from Section 3. Dundas Sports (67.5pts) have smashed Section 2, sealing a finals berth with a 10-0 win last Saturday, the only team in Zone 10 to go undefeated through 9 rounds. Brush Park (38pts) can still sneak into finals contention as best rank qualifiers, but will need some serious Irish good fortune to do so. Firstly they need to repeat defeat their opponents North Epping 10-0 (previous result Brush Park won 10-0), then hope that both Wenty Leagues defeat Carlingford and NBC Sports defeat Toongabbie by a margin of 10-0 Good luck. Section 3 contains another 1 st v 2 nd final round match, with first place sitters Carlingford BC (57pts) hosting Wenty Leagues (47.5pts). Carlo need just halve a point to take out the section, whilst Wenty need nothing short of 10-0 victory, which will relegate Carlingford BC to qualify as the next best ranked side. Should they run second in their section, Wenty Leagues can still qualify for the finals as the next best ranked side dependant on results from Sections 1 & 2.
