CLI.303 CLUB OF CAPE TOWN CHAIRMAN: Darryl Carver Cell: 082 857 4786 E-mail: cli.303club@gmail.com SECRETARY: Amanda van Niekerk Cell: 083 360 1069 E-mail: cli.303club@gmail.com September 2012 Newsletter; CLI 200 I had a severe case of nerves in the days leading up to the CLI 200 with the weather threatening to turn nasty and ruin all our fun. It was all for nothing as besides some rain on Saturday afternoon just as we lay down for the 500m all went well and we managed to get through our full programme in time. The keen campers put the tent up on Friday night in record time and the fires were soon well on the way. All who attended the braai got a non convertible sighter in the form of a shot of peppermint liqueur to get things going and then it was full ahead with the festivities. The onion soup, supplied by Bas and the red hot chilli sauce from Mike, helped to hot things up. The incident of Michael Beardwood s stolen toasted sandwich caused much amusement, especially when Adrian kept on eating it out of his pocket when Michael was standing next to him. The fires burnt well into the night and the talk carried on till very late. Saturday morning started with a hearty breakfast and all 43 entrants were registered and ready to head to the firing point by 08h30. The competition was opened with a prayer by Jacques. The conditions were changing all the time; no wind and then wind, cloud then sunshine and also a bit of rain in the afternoon. We were able to complete each detail within 40 min which was very good going. Perhaps it was because we only had two sighters per distance. The two sighters also did not seem to be problem for anyone and perhaps it is the way to go in future. We have included all the results in the newsletter this time as it would take too long to show the places for each distance. Special mention must go to; Melani for the highest 200m score of 49.04, Jason and Mike for the highest 300m score 45.02,Koos for the highest 500m score of 48.05, Arnold for the highest 600m score of 46.03, Koos again for the most V Bulls and
Arnold for the highest total score for the day of 180.13. It was excellent shooting and well done to all of you. The competition was close in the until Charl s sight fell to pieces and poor Noah got belted by the rifle. Both sadly had to retire so Liam had it all his own way. Liam however put in some excellent scores despite the lack of competition. The prize giving went off without a hitch and dead on time. No-one lost their score cards and there were no glitches with the stats. The catering by Geraldine was excellent and there was plenty of food. The kuier went on long after the day trippers had left and ended up in the tent as usual. We finally fell into our beds and got to sleep at some ridiculous time. Breakfast in the club house was a bleary eyed affair and the campers packed up slowly thereafter and made their way home, thankful that we had Monday to recover from the excesses of the weekend. I must give thanks to all who helped with the arrangements and running as the CLI 200 was a great success. The whole committee did a great job but the success is also due to the fantastic club spirit that prevails and every entrant must be thanked for their part in the success of this event. It is a club first that we were able to shoot four distances in one day and it was only due to the entrant s co-operation and adherence to the range rules of the day. It was a very good effort by all and shows that the club as a whole has reached a new level of maturity. Special thanks must go to Geraldine and her crew for the excellent catering that they did for the whole weekend. Nothing was too much trouble, food was excellent, everything was on time and there was plenty of it as well. We need to decide as to whether this becomes an annual event but the decision will rest with you at the AGM next year. It was held very close to the WP Bisley and maybe we should look at holding it at a different time next year if we repeat the CLI 200. The WP Bisley was held the very next week and the weather was frankly awful. Some of the competitions were cancelled due to the weather. We had a record entry of 20 for the.303 class but quite a few left in disgust after the first day of rain with broken spirits. The brave stayed and continued the quest to the bitter end. The overall winner was Koos Brink, in second place was Chris Gouws and in third was Pieter Marais. Well done to the three of you for the excellent results. Congratulations as well to the other distance and aggregate winners. The full results have been circulated and there are too many to repeat in this already rather lengthy newsletter. Congratulations also to Jason, Melani and Mike Target Rifle class and achieved excellent results. May you all have an absolutely fantastic year and we wish you only the best. May all your bulls be V-bulls. Our next and last competition for the year will be the 800m. This is always a difficult shoot and it is going to take some time to get everyone on the paper so bring some extra ammo just in case you have a problem. We will make sure that we have some extra, experienced range officers at both ends to assist those needing help. Remember as well that we are only shooting one distance so there is plenty of time for everyone to have a decent shot at getting a score. The details of our next event are; Date; Saturday 27 th October 2012 Distance; 800m Time; 08h00 Venue; Good Hope Range Ammo; 5 x Convertible Sighter and 10 to count = 15 Rounds There are still some licence disk holders/ stickers with the club logo available at R5 each for those who missed out at the CLI 200. Stick them on your vehicle and give the club a bit of exposure. We have a bullet problem in Cape Town at present as absolutely nothing is available, not even PMP. Guns and Bows received no Hornady.303 bullets with their last shipment. I searched the web and found that Helber International Trading in GP has stock of.303 174gr FMJBT Hornady bullets and is prepared to post/courier them to us. I as yet do not have a price. If you are interested, contact Bernard at info@helber.co.za. If anyone knows of a local source, please let me know so that I can circulate the info to all. From me that is all besides clean those barrels, polish those bullets and get ready for our next day at the range. Keep Safe Darryl Arnold Benneke the CLI 200 Top Score of the day.
