Second Annual Pappy Boyington Memorial Cup The Second Annual Pappy Boyington Memorial Cup, hosted by Brent Travis and sanctioned by the Sport Air Racing League, took place on Friday and Saturday August 16-17, 2013, at Brent's Hanger on the CdA Airport. Friday was Arrival Day with registration from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. Several Sports Cars from the British Classic Sports Car clubs paid a visit. From 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM everyone enjoyed a great barbecue prepared by the folks at Kuma Stoves of Rathdrum. Saturday was Race Day with last minute registration from 7:00 AM to 8:30 AM. A Mandatory Pilot's Race Briefing was from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. About 10:15 AM engines of the ten racers were started, the planes formed a line with the fastest planes first, and the first racer took off about 10:30. The open course, 141.7 NM, started adjacent to the numbers on RWY 6, then to the junction of Hayden Ave. and McGuire Rd, then to Rosalia Airport (72S), then to Steptoe Butte, then to the junction of US 95 and ID 6, then to Carlin Bay Airport, then to Spades Mountain Lookout and then to the finish line, again adjacent to the numbers on RWY 6. The first racer crossed the finish line about 39 minutes after his start, the last racer about 61 minutes after his start. After a refueling and cool down period, lunch was served. After lunch, the race results were announced and trophies handed out. See pages 2 and 3 for details. Then it was off to the next race.
