HEAD COACH / ST AUGUSTINE S DIRECTOR OF SWIMMING Kirk Donaldson Kirk Donaldson was employed by St Augustine s College in 2008 with consultation with Saints Swim Club to re-establish the competitive program. Like many coaches Kirk was involved as a competitive swimmer and a family that owned a 25m pool where his father coached a local girl to final at Montreal Olympics. While completing a Bachelor of Economics, continued his coaching and upon completion seized the opportunity to learn from Australian Men s Team coach Brian Sutton in Sydney s Eastern Suburbs. It was this apprenticeship where he learnt most about high performance programming and creating a successful environment. Kirk joined the large Jones Swim program which had one of Sydney s largest age group programs. Here Kirk honed ideas on how a well-structured skill and technique progression developed babies into champions. Kirk had a break from coaching in 1997 while he played a rugby season in Ireland, travelled, and worked in finance in London. In 2001 Kirk had the opportunity to set up a swim school in Shrewsbury, UK and take over as Head Coach where he transformed a struggling club into the top club in Shropshire. During this time he trained national level swimmers, junior GB pentathlon competitors while Gemma Almond who came through the learn to swim progression has gone onto represent Great Britain in Paralympics. From my experiences as a swimmer and a coach I believe strongly in developing technique and skills firstly. The endurance and stamina aspects are all too often developed with incorrect technique. I enjoy setting goals to challenge swimmers physically and mentally. The greatest reward from swimming coaching is to watch them achieve small and large goals which previously they didn t believe possible.

SWIM MEETS All Saints memberships will be classed as competitive, allowing swimmers the option to compete in FNQRSA swim meets. The annual FNQRSA Carnival Calendar is available at http://www.fnqswimming.com.au/. Swim meet flyers will be posted on the FNQ website and emailed to you by the Nominations secretary. As soon as a meet program is emailed to the Nominations secretary, it will be emailed to you. Programs are also available on the FNQ website. HOW TO NOMINATE As of the 2015-16 season, all nominations will be online and paid at that time by credit card. Links for Online Noms are on the Saints website and instructions will be sent to you by the Nominations Secretary. You will need the swimmer s username and password. If you forget these, please email the Saints Club Registrar for a Reset Password email. Late Nominations will ONLY be accepted (unless stated on the carnival flyer) by the host club on the day of the carnival, nomination and money is to be given to the Carnival Director. Saints does not collect late nominations. The Club will pay nomination fees for relay events if there are sufficient swimmers to make up a team. Places in a relay team are decided by a computer program that uses the seed times of swimmers to select the fastest combination. If a swimmer has not registered with our Club and Swimming Queensland in time for the nominated swim meet they will be unable to swim at that meet and will have to wait until Club registration is accepted. Swimming results are available on the FNQ Website after each carnival for your own record keeping. The Nomination Secretary will send out a Saints Only results sheet. A Qualifier Major open meets that provide qualifying opportunities for Regional, State and National Championships. B Qualifier Other open meets where official requirements for qualifying times are met (Three time keepers or 2 timekeepers with electronic touch pads per lane. Not all races are available at these meets) B Non-Qualifying Other open meets where official requirements for qualifying times are NOT met. CARNIVAL PARTICIPATION BY PARENTS IF YOUR CHILD IS COMPETING ONE ADULT MUST STAY AT THE CARNIVAL WITH YOUR CHILD AND TAKE A TIMEKEEPING SLOT. ALL parents are expected to time keep at meets as each club is allocated time keeping duties in proportion to the number of swimmers nominated. If you are unable to attend please ensure you have made appropriate arrangements with a friend or relative to time keep in your place. We advise you to also check with our coach as to the suitability of a particular meet you might wish to nominate for, as well as the appropriate events that your swimmer is ready to compete in. It is also encouraged for parents to learn the role of Race Referees, Marshall, Chief Timekeeping, and Check Starter. If interested please let Committee know.
