Volunteer Informational Packet Event Overview is the presenter of the which this year will encompass several events in one festival which include the all ages welcome Stand Up For The Kids SUP race, Keiki Heihei Waʻa (Youth only Hawaiian canoe regatta), SUP/Health Wellness Expo, cultural village, Youth obstacle course on the beach, and da kine Hawaiian entertainment. This event will take place at Crown Point Park-Middle, located on beautiful San Diego Mission Bay on Saturday April 26, 2014. is a unique Hawaiian Outrigger Canoe youth cultural immersion program located in San Diego, Ca. is a 501c3 all adult volunteer run nonprofit organization. We organize events throughout the year to raise funds in order to support our unique to the mainland cultural immersion program. We also produce events to assist other charities such as the Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego and the Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Center in East San Diego. Other past events have included Hawaiian outrigger canoe outings with Hoover high School s basketball team, Mission Hill s High School Basketball team, and San Diego Balboa Naval Hospital. Who Should Volunteer High School Students Students 16 years old and greater who are looking for volunteer opportunities to meet school volunteer requirements or to add to their college application. They can bring their volunteer forms to be signed on event day. General Public Anyone from the general public who is interested in supporting a great cause. If you are willing to dedicate a few hours of your day or perhaps several hours for two days, helping our club with various activities it will be involved with, then please join us and be a part of this fantastic event. Outrigger Paddlers, Dragon Boat Paddlers, Kayak paddlers, SUP borders, etc. Paddlers of various man propelled watercraft who would like to volunteer their expertise and experience with our regatta would be greatly appreciated. Volunteer Shirt & Free Lunch All volunteers will receive a free volunteer shirt and will need to wear it during volunteer hours. Volunteer Positions Overview (Saturday only): Assist with maintaining a smooth running event and one with plenty of aloha requires lots of kokua (help) from community volunteers to help. Listed below are possible volunteer positions that are available during the event with possible times needed in the volunteer position. On the volunteer application please mark which positions you are interested in helping in and we will try our best to accommodate you. Volunteer Positions: Event Setup Volunteers will help setup all of the tents, tables, banners, and other items as required. Volunteers will also help unload canoes from the trailer. Time needed: 5:00am 7:30am Event Security Volunteers will help keep the event secure by way of being very alert to suspicious activities and bringing any issues deemed unlawful or that may create a negative situation to the event security chairperson. We will need security volunteers in various perimeters of the event including but not limited to areas including the vendor booths, parking lot, beach, command/registration center, SUP and Canoe staging area. Security volunteers will be using 2- way radios on the day of the event. All security volunteers must be pre-approved by our event security chairperson. Security detail will start their shifts Saturday morning until the event has been completely broken down and packed to go on Saturday evening. Time needed: 6:00am 12:00pm, 12:00pm 5:00pm Park Ground keepers Volunteers will help keep the event area clean by picking up any kind of trash, putting plastic bottles in our recycling bins, making sure trash cans are not overflowing, etc. Time needed: 7:00am 12:00pm, 12:00pm 5:00pm Entertainment Communication Vendor Communication Will be assisting with communicating with entertainment on backstage coordination, assist with distributing lineup to entertainers where needed, communicating with entertainment 1 hours in advance of their call time to prepare (runner) the individual or groups to enter backstage area. Ensuring dressing area is secured and then cleared of all belongings for entertainers. Obtain music/media from groups in advance of scheduled stage performance and deliver to audio/sound coordinator Time needed: 7:00am - 4:00pm Volunteer with communicate between vendor chair and vendors on any requests from vendors during set up if needed, Volunteer Informational Packet:

Assist with communicating where to park, where vendor booth assignments are located, etc. Time needed: 6:30am 10:00am, 3:00pm - 5:00pm Volunteer Registration Located at the command center Will help volunteer lead check-in volunteers, collect waivers, and handout positions Time needed: 6:00am 11:00am, 11:00am 2:00pm Race Registration: Volunteers will collect waivers, crew registrations forms, & race fees. Will help registration lead put together crew race schedule and help post final race results on race board. Registration is for SUP race and OC-6 race Time needed: 6:00am 12:00pm, 12:00pm 4:00pm Time Keepers/Signals: Volunteers will be given stop watches to time the canoe races occurring through the day and report times to the time recorder. Two volunteers (one placed at start and one at finish) will also have an air-horn to signal either the canoe race has started or a canoe has crossed the finish line. Time needed: 7:00am 12:00pm, 12:00pm 4:00pm Wa a (Canoe) Helpers: Volunteers will help keiki s get in and out of the canoe in between races. They will help launch (push off) the canoes into the water as well as receive the canoes to ensure the canoe is stable before the keiki s get out of canoe. Time needed: 7:00am 12:00pm, 12:00pm 4:00pm Apparel Sales Volunteers will work with apparel lead in selling apparel during the day Time needed: 6:00am 11:00am, 11:00am 4:00pm Breakdown/ Cleanup Team: Volunteers will help breakdown all of the tents, fold all of the tables, pack all of the festival items, load them in the appropriate vehicles, and then make sure the park grounds are left clean. About, Sea Warriors Canoe Club, Hawaiian words that describes our founding members and their passion for the Hawaiian culture and heihei wa a (canoe racing). One of our founding members is the founder of the first and only combined youth canoe racing & Hawaiian cultural immersion program on the U.S. Mainland at another local canoe club. This cultural immersion program was founded in the spring of 2008. After four very successful years the founder decided it was time to build a new club that is for youths only. This new Hawaiian outrigger canoe club is dedicated to perpetuating the Hawaiian and Pacific Islander culture and fostering a lifestyle of fitness through education and competitive outrigger canoe racing. has two purposes: Combat the unhealthy obesity epidemic among Pacific Islanders and other ethnic youths in our community by educating our ōpio (youth) about the importance of living a healthy and active lifestyle. Educate our ōpio (youth) about the Hawaiian and Pacific Islander culture through ōlelo (language), na mea hana lima (hand crafts), oli (chants), nā pule (prayers), and mo olelo kahiko o Hawai i (ancient History of Hawaii).
