NEWSLETTER 2017 Edition 19 What a season! Congratulations to all five of our Grand Final Teams UPCOMING EVENTS 9 th Sept Presentation Day The morning started calm with little wind and sunshine, the sideline spectators however were anything but calm as you could see the nerves on all the parent s faces. Our 10C1s faced their very first Grand Final, they fought hard against Gazelles and it was a close match but unfortunately they went down 9 to 12. We know these girls have many more a Grand Final in their future. Congratulations 10C1s on being Runner Ups. Both our Open C4 and Open C1 teams knew they had a tough game ahead of them on Grand Final Day. They all tried to reverse the results of the Semi Finals but alas the two opposing teams were victorious on the day. Congratulations to both teams on never giving up and being Runners Up for 2017. We do believe the Masters C team were trying to give their spectators minor heart attacks! They have had convincing wins throughout the season with only one loss but the Grand Final was anything but easy. Down the entire game they managed to fight back in the last quarter to win by one. This was definitely a nerve racking but awesome Grand Final. Well done to the Masters C team on winning the Premiership! Last but certainly not least the Masters B, Team 1 team took to the court. They started the game slowly (because well at their age they need to!) but just like always slow and steady win the race. They ended up with a fantastic win, winning by 9 goals. Congratulations to the team for winning the Premiership and we know it won t be your last! GRAND Final Information It s time to celebrate the Netball Season 2017 this weekend. First year of competition and it s all the way to the Grand Final for the 10C1s Oakhill v Gazelles Lost 12-9 As the nerves settled for our first time Grand Finalists the girls started to put into play all of the things we had worked on throughout the season - getting in front, running to space, holding the passes just a 1/2 second longer when feeding, chasing loose balls & sticking with their players. These girls all had moments of brilliance, our mid court team of Amelia, Bridgette, Maddison & Leyla were on fire running down any stray balls, our shooting end (while a little nervous) had a tough job against some excellent defenders - well done Alyssa, Holly & Leyla for giving it your best shot. Our defence end of Arielle, Phoebe & Bridgette, proved once again that together they made it very hard for the Gazelle shooters to keep the ball. Your 3 feet were excellent & you kept trying until the very end. Congratulations to all of our players - getting to the Grand Final in your first year of competition Netball is an amazing achievement. Thank you to our awesome Manager Kristin for keeping everyone informed throughout the season. A special thanks to our back up trainer Kelly Simmons - who gave up her own time to help me with our 10's, especially during the finals games. The girls loved having Kelly help out. To all of our umpires throughout the season - great job, by the time we reached the Semi's, we were stepping less & getting pulled less for obstruction. As a coach I am very proud to see the improvement in each and every one of you, especially Amelia who played her first year of Netball and picked it up really quickly. I hope to see you all back next season as we work towards PREMIERS... have a great break. Written by Kim Davis, Coach for the 10C1s

The C4 sisters always persevered You win some, you lose some. Spectacular efforts from the ladies over the weekend for their grand final. They worked well as a team, but in the end, the opposition broke away and scored more goals. Despite a few injuries and illnesses throughout the season, the Oakhill team have kept smiling and laughing. They have always persevered and have done so well to be the 2017 Runner Ups. An excellent performance from an excellent team. Written by Emily Geale, Team member in Open C4s Open C1s The script didn t quite go as planned! So the last game of the year for 2017 saw us in the Grand Final against Glenhaven, a team we hadn t been able to beat all year. In fact, Glenhaven were the only team we couldn t beat all year. We had gone down to them by 4 and 2 in the normal rounds, and by 3 in the semi-finals. We even held the lead during those games. The Grand Final was to be our revenge. All 10 players in the side made it onto the court during the game and even though we gave it a good go, things didn t go to script and we ended up losing the game. At the end of the first quarter we were down by 7 and we just couldn t seem to make up that gap, going down by 10 at the final bell. Glenhaven were a great side, they played smart netball and had an extremely tall GD which made all the difference in this game. They aren t unbeatable and our netball revenge will have to wait until we meet again next year. Congratulations to our team for making the Grand Final in our first full year together as a team. We will learn from this year, grow from the experience and come back fighting strong next year. Written by Alison Stuart, Team Organiser for the Open C1s

We held our breath but Masters C win by one! What a final! It was a tough game from the onset against Glenhaven with Oakhill Drive on the backfoot from the beginning. End 1st quarter we were down. Half time we were down. End 3rd quarter we were down. It really took some amazing commitment from the team and a huge effort to come back after a loss in every quarter to win by one goal at full time. With our cheer squad and partners fist pumping and running across the court to congratulate us, we couldn't believe we had won. Such a mammoth effort for an amazing season of friendships, laughs (oh so many laughs!) and great netball. Now Premiership Sisters forever. Thanks for the season team, can't wait to do it all again! Written by Kirsty Newbury, Team Organiser for the Masters C Never too old! Masters B, Team 1 bring home the prize! Oakhill v OLOR Won 44-35 They don't call us "Masters" for nothing, way to go old girls. This game could have gone either way, the first time we played this team they beat us by 1 goal, the 2nd time we beat them by 4 goals, Semi's saw another close match and we walked away with a 1 point win - a well earned break over Finals (which this age group absolutely needed) and we were ready to win by Grand Finals day. A slow start (as usual) for our ladies, a few stray passes, apparently a lot of stepping LOL, and then we started to settle in. It was pretty even at the end of the 1st & 2nd quarters, but by the time we got to the end of the 3rd quarter we had a 6 point lead and another fresh player to bring on. This was the first time ALL season that we actually fielded all 10 of our players. This season we say a very fond farewell to our super star shooter Michelle Kelly - who leaves us as she heads North to QLD at the end of the year. We are so happy that we were able to send Michelle away with the Premiers title, we will miss you Shell. To the team AWESOME EFFORT - what a great bunch of ladies, it's been an absolute pleasure once again hitting the court with you all. Masters A next year???? BRING IT. Written by Kim Davis, Team Organiser for the Masters B, Team 1
