LOS ANGELES DODGS (67-55) vs. Cincinnati Reds (53-69) LHP Julio Urías (3-2, 4.41) vs. RHP Anthony DeSclafani (7-1, 3.10) Sunday, Aug. 21, 2016 1:10 p.m. ET Great American Ball Park Cincinnati, OH Game 123 Road Game 61 (29-31) Day Game 33 (21-11) TV: SNLA/SNLA Spanish Radio: AM 570 (Eng.)/KTNQ 1020 AM (Span.)/AM 1540 (Kor.) 40-GAME SPRINT: The Dodgers continue their seven-game road trip (2-3) and enter their final 40 games of the season with the third of four games against the Reds following last night s 11-1 loss, Los Angeles third consecutive defeat. Los Angeles, which opened the trip by taking two of three games at Philadelphia, is in second place in the NL West, 0.5 games behind the Giants, but is still atop the Wild Card standings, 2.0 games ahead of the Cardinals. Following tomorrow s getaway-day matinee against the Reds, the Dodgers return home for a crucial six-game homestand with three games each against the Giants and the Cubs. Los Angeles has the second-best record in day games in the Majors this year at 21-11 (.656), behind only the Cubs.661 mark (37-19), and has averaged better than a run per game more during the day (5.22 R/G) vs. night games (4.20 R/G). POWING UP: Los Angeles continues to top the National League with a.459 slugging percentage in 31 games since the All- Star break, while ranking among the league leaders in team batting average (.273, 3 rd ) and runs per game (5.26, 163 R). The Dodgers slugging percentage is on pace to be the highest in Los Angeles history after the All-Star break, far outpacing the previous mark of.434 set in 2008. Overall, 373 of the Dodgers 1042 hits have gone for extra bases this year, tied for the highest percentage (35.8) in franchise history (also: 2000, 35.8%, 504 extra-base hits/1408 total hits) Source; Stats, LLC. SEEING RED: This weekend marks a homecoming for Dodgers Quality Assurance Coach Juan Castro, who spent eight of his 17 big-league seasons with the Reds from 2000-04 and 06-08. In addition to Castro, Yasmani Grandal and Justin Turner have ties to the Cincinnati organization, both being selected by the Reds in the draft before making their MLB debuts elsewhere. Grandal was taken by the Reds with the 12 th overall pick in the 2010 draft before being traded to San Diego after the 2011 season and Turner was picked by Cincinnati in the seventh round of the 2006 draft and subsequently traded to the Orioles in Dec. 2008. Grandal has already established a career high with 20 home runs and is tied with Jonathan Lucroy for the most home runs by a catcher this year. Grandal is the first Dodger catcher since Paul Lo Duca (25) in 2001 to post a 20-homer season and just the fifth catcher in Los Angeles history to accomplish the feat, joining Mike Piazza (5: 1993-97), Joe Ferguson (2: 1973, 79), Todd Hundley (2: 1999, 2000) and Lo Duca. Since June 30, Grandal is tied for the NL home run lead (14) along with San Diego s Ryan Schimpf and continues to lead the Majors with a.701 slugging pct. (min. 100 AB) in 36 games in that span. Turner leads the Dodgers in home runs (23, T-14 th NL) and RBI (72, T-13 th NL), which both are already careerbest marks. Turner has hit safely in 16 of his last 17 games since July 30, batting.324 (22-for-68) with nine doubles, a triple, five homers and 13 RBI in that span. After a slow start to the season, he has posted a 1.032 OPS the sixthbest mark in the Majors in his last 58 games since June 10, while leading the NL in home runs (19), RBI (52) and slugging percentage (.670) in that span. Turner ranks 10 th in the NL with a.325 batting average since June 10 (75- for-231), including a.385 mark with runners in scoring position (20-for-52). GOLDEN GLOVEWORK: The Dodgers have been one of the Majors best fielding teams this year, ranking third in fielding percentage (.988) and committing the third-fewest errors of any team (55), behind only the Astros (52) and Nationals (51). By defensive efficiency, which measures turning balls in play into outs, the Dodgers rank second in the National League, trailing only the Cubs, with a 70.5% efficiency rating according to Baseball- Reference.com. His 19-game streak from June 16-July 6 remains tied for the longest run of the year by a National Leaguer along with Carlos Gonzalez and Ender Inciarte. Seager continues to rank among the NL s overall leaders in runs (80, T-5 th ), hits (149, 4 th ), doubles (34, 3 rd ), total bases (252, 3 rd ), batting average (.314, 9 th ) and slugging percentage (.532, 13 th ). Seager s 182 hits through the first 145 games of his career are the most by a Los Angeles Dodger and rank as the second most in franchise history since 1913, behind only Johnny Frederick (201, 1929). HILLTOPPS: The Dodgers lead the Major Leagues with 1,133 strikeouts and are on pace to set a club record for Ks, averaging 9.28 strikeouts per 9.0 innings (previous best: 8.69 /9 in 2015). L.A. also ranks second in the Majors in both WHIP (1.18) and opponents batting average (.230), while posting the sixth-lowest team A in the big leagues (3.79). Los Angeles relievers rank second in the NL in A (3.27, 157 /432.1 IP) and top the big leagues in both opponents batting average (.213) and WHIP (1.11). Julio Urías, who turned 20 on Aug. 12, enters today s start unbeaten in his last eight games (six starts), going 3-0 with a 3.71 A (14 /34.0 IP) since June 17. He last pitched on Aug. 13 vs. Pittsburgh, when he threw 64 pitches and picked up the win with 2.2 scoreless innings of relief in the Dodgers 8-4 win. OBSTACLE COURSE: The Dodgers have had 26 players on the DL this year, the most ever by a National League club and the second most by any team in the last 30 years since 1987, behind only the 2012 Red Sox (27). OH HAPPY DAY!: The Dodgers would like to wish a very happy birthday to Jesse Chavez, who turns 33 today! Chavez has posted a 3.97 A in eight games with the Dodgers since being acquired from the Blue Jays on Aug. 1, including a run of 9.0 scoreless innings in his last six appearances since Aug. 7.
