Sunday s home game against St. Louis will be played as part of the Little League Classic in Williamsport, Pennsylvania... Sunday s game, which will celebrate youth baseball, will be played in front of a crowd of primarily Little League players and their families at a renovated, historic Bowman Field...It will also be the first home game played by the Pirates at a neutral site since September 22, 1890, against the New York Giants in Wheeling, West Virginia. BUCS-BREW CREW: The Pirates and Brewers have six games remaining against each other following today s game... SERIESLY SPEAKING: The Pirates are 2-1-1 in their last four series...pittsburgh took two of three games against the Padres at PNC Park from August 4-6, swept a two game series vs. Detroit from August 7-8, split a two game series at Detroit from August 9-10 and dropped two of three at Toronto this past weekend. NO LOVE FOR LEFTIES: Felipe Rivero has not allowed a hit to a left-handed hitter in 36 straight at bats...according to the Elias Sports Bureau, that s the longest such streak in the Majors since Tampa Bay s Brad Boxberger, a right-handed pitcher, held lefty batters hitless over 43 straight at-bats in 2014. RING THAT BELL: Josh Bell has hit 19 of his 20 home runs this season from the first base position...that s the total number of home runs Pittsburgh received from that position all of last season...bell is also the fifth rookie in team history to hit at least 20 home runs, joining Garrett Jones (21 in 2009), Jason Bay (26 in 2004), Ralph Kiner (23 in 1946) and Johnny Rizzo (23 in 1938). BOLSTERING THE BULLPEN: On August 5 the Pirates claimed George Kontos off waivers from San Francisco...Kontos has thrown a total of 24 pitches in three appearances with Pittsburgh while retiring each of his nine batters faced...friday night Kontos stranded his two inherited runners in the seventh inning after entering the game with nobody out...since the beginning of 2015, he has inherited a total of 118 runners, the second-most in the National League and fifth-most in all of MLB. SHORT HOPS: Jordy Mercer has hit 11 home run was this season, which matches his total from last season...he is now one home run shy of tying his career-high of 12 home runs in 2014...Mercer also has a total of 44 homers hit as a shortstop in his career, which is one shy of tying Gene Alley for the fifth-most in team history for home runs at that position.
