SAVES AS A SOUTHPAW: LHP Felipe Rivero has recorded 15 saves in 16 opportunities for the Pirates this season; tied for the second-most in a single season by a Pittsburgh lefthander...tony Watson saved 15 games last year, and since saves became official in 1969, Mike Gonzalez holds the club record for most saves in a season by a southpaw (24 in 2006). TASTY STEW: Chris Stewart has been the starting catcher in each of the last two shutouts tossed by Bucco pitchers; Saturday night s 1-0 blanking in Cincinnati and the 1-0 victory in 10 innings over the Dodgers Wednesday night...stewart has posted a team-best 3.70 catcher s ERA this season and has been behind the plate for six of the team s last seven shutouts. SIGHTS ON THE CENTRAL: The Corsairs are 1-1 in a stretch that has them scheduled to play 28 straight games against Central division teams thru Sunday, September 24...In that time they will play the Reds nine times, the Cubs seven times, the Cardinals six times and the Brewers six times...the final six games will come against Baltimore (two) and Washington (four). A NIGHTMARE FOR LEFTIES: Felipe Rivero has not allowed a hit to a left-handed hitter in 41 straight at bats...according to the Elias Sports Bureau, that is the longest such streak in the Major Leagues since Tampa Bay s Brad Boxberger, a righthanded pitcher, held lefty batters hitless over 43 straight at bats in 2014. THE HIT COLLECTOR: Andrew McCutchen has tallied 1431 career hits, tying him with Bill Virdon for 15th place on Pittsburgh s all-time hit list...dick Groat is 14th on the list with 1435 hits and Dave Parker is 13th with 1479...Since making his Major League debut in 2009, McCutchen leads all National League players in hits. CLOSING TIME: Felipe Rivero notched his 15th save of the season Saturday night, striking out all three of the batters he faced...rivero enters today with the third-lowest ERA (1.27) among all relievers in MLB behind Archie Bradley (1.22) and Kenley Jansen (1.26)...Rivero has gone 15-for-16 in save opportunites with the Bucs this season.
