With another winning season in 2014-15, including a number of wins over top-25 opponents and the Cats first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 1997, McKeown now has 632 career victories. Additionally, McKeown has guided the Wildcats to four winning seasons, amassing more wins in seven years with the program (111) than the previous 11 years before his arrival in Evanston (77 combined wins in 11 seasons; 1997-2008). During his tenure, the Wildcats have established a number of program firsts, including the first-ever ranking in the USA Today top-25 coaches poll, Nia Coffey becoming the first freshman in program history to be named First Team All-Big Ten during the 2013-14 campaign, Maggie Lyon s crowning as the 2013 Big Ten Freshman of the Year and Amy Jaeschke becoming the first Wildcat to be selected in the WNBA Draft (2011). This past summer, McKeown served as the head coach for the 2015 USA Basketball World University Games team. McKeown was assisted by Tennessee head coach Holly Warlick and Northern Iowa head coach Tanya Warren, and led the USA team to a gold medal after a win over Canada in the Championship game. Northwestern s improvement from 2008-09 (7-23) to 2009-10 (18-15) was tied for the 10th best turnaround in the nation and ranked fourth among BCS schools. In winning percentage comparison, the Wildcats above-.500 mark (.545) was a 31.2 percent improvement from last season. The success yielded NU s first postseason appearance in 13 years and a ticket to the WNIT, which led to two victories and a trip to the event s round of 16. In fact, it was the first season since 1995-96 that the Cats won at least 20 games. Chicago s Big Ten Team was also successful in conference play last year by earning 12 wins during the regular season. No Northwestern team had won 12 games in the league since the 1992-93 squad registered 13 victories in 18 games. The school record for the most wins in a season is 25, which happened in 1978-79, the program s fourth season of existence. The most Big Ten wins in NU history, 15, came in 1989-90. That team won the program s first Big Ten Championship. SAYONARA, SENIORS Northwestern will be without the likes of former Wildcats Alex Cohen and Karly Roser, who graduated last year. The duo combined to be part of 67 Northwestern victories since 2011, including 23 in 2014-15, the program s most since the 1995-96 season. The pair has also left a mark in the squad s record book. Cohen, from Bayside, Wisc., ranks fourth all-time at NU with 169 blocks, while Roser, who hails from Hamilton, Ontario, ranks sixth with 450 assists. Roser was a two-year captain and Cohen was selected to the Allstate WBCA Good Works Team last month, becoming one of only five Division I players to receive the honor. HISTORICAL POLL PRESENCE On February 23, Northwestern broke into the Associated Press top-25 poll for the first time since Jan. 29, 1996, at No. 25. Last season, the Wildcats entered the USA Today top-25 coaches poll for the first time ever on Dec. 30, 2014, checking in at No. 25. After topping a ranked Rutgers squad for the second time in a week, NU valuted from No. 24 to No. 22 in the edition that was released on March 9, 2015. The Cats also climbed back into the coaches poll for the second time on March 10, 2015. The highest AP ranking in program history came on Dec. 10, 1990 (No. 6), and the Cats have appeared in the final poll twice. Northwestern was ranked No. 13 to conclude the 1989-90 campaign and No. 22 at the end of the 1990-91 season. NORTHWESTERN GAME NOTES VS. MICHIGAN STATE (1/10/16)
