The New Lubbesthorpe Travel Plan What is the New Lubbesthorpe Travel Plan? A major new development like New Lubbesthorpe, will create a lot of new traffic. Cars are a very flexible way of making journeys but do have some downsides. Their emissions are a contributor to climate change and reduce air quality. Cars also make more demands on our road network and require space for parking in city centres, business parks and shopping centres. In many places, local roads and car parking is already at, or close to, capacity. Less journeys by car with only one person will make for a more sustainable future. The Drummond Estate, the developer of New Lubbesthorpe, is committed to promoting and developing travel options to reduce the need for all journeys to be made by car. How will residents benefit? Travelling more sustainably can help in a number of ways: Save money use of a petrol or diesel powered car and buying a 2nd car can be more expensive than you think choosing sustainable options, including an electric car, can save money. Residents of New Lubbesthorpe can enjoy free bus travel and savings on cycling, train travel and more besides. Improve health by using travel options that help incorporate healthy activities into your daily routines Make a difference by choosing to travel sustainably, you are making a positive difference for future generations and the environment Summary of key activities Walking promoting the options to walk locally Cycling promoting and developing tools to encourage more cycling reviewing options such as a Bicycle Users Group, Bike Share scheme and Dr Bike maintenance Bus travel a new bus service is planned to start within the next year, making it easier to travel to Leicester city centre and surrounding areas Cars making it possible to car share, explore the potential of a car club and make electric vehicle charging easier Schools and workplaces work is underway with the sites being developed in New Lubbesthorpe and those in the surrounding areas, to make it easier to make these trips without the need for a car Travel by Walking and by Bike Benefits of walking and cycling Walking or cycling to work, shops or school is an easy way to achieve this target, plus it will save you money, meaning less travel costs and no gym membership! What s more, for some journeys, travelling by bike can be as quick as the car. Making walking and cycling easier When complete, New Lubbesthorpe will have 320 acres of parkland, with lots of footpaths plus off road shared space for walking and cycling. As part of the Travel Plan, there will be support to encourage more cycling. If you have any ideas, email newlubbesthorpe@localgo.co.uk Some useful information Find out more about local cycling courses and resources www.choosehowyoumove.co.uk/everyday/cycling For a guide showing cycle routes in Leicester South go to: www.choosehowyoumove.co.uk/file/leicester-cyclingmap-south Cycling is often quicker than you think from New Lubbesthorpe travel to Leicester City Centre and rail station in 25-40 minutes and Fosse Shopping Park in 10-20 minutes with many parts of these journeys on segregated paths and quieter roads. Here s a journey planner purely for cycling: www.cyclestreets.net/journey Save on cycling Travel by Bus Why take the bus? As well as being a good way of helping the environment and reducing congestion, travelling by bus can offer some great personal benefits. If you are travelling into Leicester city centre, the journey time could be quicker than taking the car, as the Hinckley Road is a bus priority corridor. What is more, many buses on this corridor offer some of the latest comforts with onboard wi-fi, charging and high-quality seating. What local bus services are there? The main bus services operate along Hinckley Road and to locations such as Coventry, Nuneaton, Hinckley and Leicester. During the daytime, there are up to 6 buses per hour. The main bus operators from these stops are Arriva (service 158) and Stagecoach Midlands (service 48). There are other less frequent bus services in the area, for example from Thorpe Astley and Desford Road (near Next HQ). For local bus, coach and train journeys and across the UK, go to www.travelineeastmidlands.co.uk How much will it cost? If you travel with Arriva, it may not cost anything for 6 months! As part of the New Lubbesthorpe Travel Plan, there are a limited number of free 6-month Arriva Leicester Zone 1 tickets. To apply, sign up to LocalGo as a resident and select this ticket option. For details of season tickets, go to the website of the bus company running the service. New bus service being planned In the next year, New Lubbesthorpe will have its own highquality bus service coming into the heart of the community. Look out for updates. Save on local bus travel Do you have a local travel enquiry? Do you want your own free Personal Travel Plan?

Smarter use of Cars Cars can offer a lot of convenience when making journeys and can at times be the only practical way of making a journey. However, they do have some adverse impacts. There are a number of ways of reducing these impacts and saving money. Here are some suggestions. Car share Travel by Park and Ride Why Park & Ride? If you are looking for a convenient way of travelling to Leicester city centre, Leicester Royal Infirmary or De Montfort University, then using the Park & Ride could work well for you. They operate throughout the year daytime Monday to Saturday and at additional times during the Christmas season and for special events. For full information, go to: www.choosehowyoumove.co.uk/parkandride Which Park & Ride do I take? If travelling to De Montfort University and Leicester Royal Infirmary, then you need to travel on the Park & Ride from Enderby. How much does it cost? There are a range of ticket options including day tickets, season tickets and group tickets. Parking is free. You pay on the bus.
