$39 Day Trips A Four-hour Adventure Cruise East Tawas Trip Description & Departure Schedule (Bring a lunch or purchase a box lunch when you purchase your ticket.) Departs for Big Charity Island from the East Tawas and Cruises by the historic Alabaster Loading Dock built in 1929 that is owned and operated by the U.S. Gypsum Company. Here the Captain will share the history of the Gypsum mine with the passengers before continuing on to Big Charity Island. Upon arrival on Big Charity Island you will enjoy the 7-minute walk under the thick hardwood forest canopy to the Lighthouse and Lightkeepers home. Plan to enjoy your lunch at the lighthouse picnic area where the captain provides a history of the of the Charity Island lighthouse as part of each trip. After lunch the captain will be available to provide a short guided hike down to the west beach where the rare Pitcher's Thistle" grows. This plant is on the Federal Governments "endangered Species" list. There will be time for taking pictures of the lighthouse and a visit to the lighthouse gift shop before returning to the boat for the return trip to port.
