VOLUME 42 ISSUE 11 NEVADA STATE SENIORS GOLF CLUB Dedicated to the Senior Golfer A non-profit corporation PRESIDENTS MESSAGE. Visit our website: WWW.NSSGC.ORG I want to begin this month by thanking our members for their understanding of the course of events that led to the need for all Golfsmith gift cards to be redeemed by November 10 th. Obviously this was a situation that was out of our control and was actually dictated by the bankruptcy court handling the Golfsmith liquidation. It required your Board of Governors to make a quick decision on how to handle the situation and we believe the decision that was made to immediately notify the membership and inform all of you of the deadline to redeem your cards was in the best interest of our members and the club. All cards that remained at the store after the established deadline were picked up by Jack and myself and were used to purchase items that will be given out as prizes at next year s banquet. We were also able to receive our kickback credit for cards purchased since July and that was also used for prizes. We are now working on an alternative payment method that will be used from here on out. More on that as soon as a final decision is made. I m pleased to report that our November tournament at the Legacy had a robust field of 38 players that enjoyed a perfect Sunday weather-wise and were able to play a course that was in terrific condition as long as you don t mind greens that were a little on the slow side. Congratulations to the winners: Tony Balen and our Executive Director Terry Kirk in Flight 1 with a Net 62; our Vice-President Jack Meola and Peter Velasco who made every putt and carried Jack the whole day in Flight 2 with a Net 62, Joe Toebes and Al Hurtado who claims to be making a comeback from a recent surgery in Flight 3 with a Net 63, and Vincent Krack and Phil Mylnek in Flight 4 with a Net 60. Thirteen of the nineteen teams will be awarded gift cards for their efforts. Our December tournament will be on Sunday the 11 th at Stallion Mountain. We are scheduled to have a shotgun start at 9:00 AM and the format will be Individual Medal play. Cost for this tournament is $55 per player. Please fill out the on-line entry form as soon as possible and remember to send in your entry fees so that we receive them at least five days prior to the event. Guys, receiving fees early really helps us get the tournament set up and minimizes the work our Executive Director has to do at the course on the day of the event. I cannot emphasize enough how important this is and we really need your cooperation on this issue. Lastly, I want to wish all of our members and your families a very Happy Thanksgiving. The beginning of the holiday season also means it s time to start thinking about rejoining the club for the 2017 season. We have had several new members join our ranks in the last few months and we are very encouraged that the trend will continue. If you know anyone who may be interested in joining please encourage them to do so. It s your club, help it grow. Until next month Hit em Straight - Bob Genzer Board of Governors Bob Genzer, President Jack Meola, Vice-President Tommy Taylor, Secretary Bill Smith, Treasurer Terry Kirk, Executive Director Mike Landry, Entertainment Chair, Website & Newsletter Lucius Ware, Membership Chair Victor Noguez-Rivera, Board Member Email the President and Executive Director: executivedirector@nssgc.org Call Bob or Terry if you would like to discuss joining the Board. OUR NEXT TOURNAMENT Stallion Mountain Golf Club December 11, 2016 Individual Medal Play. Please Sign-up early! Stallion Mountain Golf Club is home to 18 holes of spectacular Las Vegas golf. The course plays 6378 yards from the middle tees with a course rating/slope 69.0/123. The club has a decorated history in the Las Vegas golf scape as a host venue for the PGA Tour Las Vegas Invitational, Golf Channel s Big Break II, and the Frank Sinatra Celebrity Classic. Located within just seven miles of the fabulous Las Vegas Strip, its easy access from anywhere in the valley. Come and enjoy this all exclusive golf, cart, range and practice balls. This is a nice facility where you can enjoy a good breakfast before your round and great food and spirits after your round. NEW MEMBERS CORNER/RECRUITMENT Our recent recruiting efforts are paying off as we accepted six new members to the club. Please join me in welcoming the following golfers to our club: Rich Sherman, Todd Sherman, Duane Putnam, Randy Kasik, Ilia Lozev and Grant Ferreira. That s a total of 11 new members for the past 3-4 months. Please be sure and introduce yourselves to the new faces out there and make these new members feel welcome during upcoming events. Members are reminded they can bring guests at any of our tournaments. Only thing you need to do in advance is have our club President approve each occurrence. Hopefully your guests will have a pleasant experience and want to join our great club. Guests with established handicaps can participate in the net and gross skin pot and closest to the pin contest as well as compete in the tournament and are eligible for tournament prizes. Non handicapped guests can only enter the gross skin pot and are eligible for closest to the pin prizes, but are not eligible to participate in the tournament prizes. I ask that each member continues to do their part to promote our club at every opportunity and help us recruit new members. It s not that hard as proven by Ed White. Since joining the club a couple months ago he has already brought in four new members and promises there are more to be had out there good job Ed. I brought one new member last month and I m currently working on another if we each bring in just one member, we can double the size of our club and get much better preference at future tournaments and venues not to mention it s nice to have a large group show up at each venue. I thank all of our members in advance for participating in as many tournaments as they can and for their efforts in recruiting. A special thank you goes out to our Vice President Jack Meola for doing his part by displaying the NSSGC Banner on the number 1 tee of every course we play (picture shown above was taken at the Legacy number 1 tee this past Sunday). This effort is paying off as golfers are inquiring about our club and asking how they can join keep it up Jack! Page 3

HEARTS & FLOWERS Please keep the following members in your thoughts and prayers Long-time Board Member Robert Blaisdell has been gravely ill for quite some time Bill Shepard is still recovering from a knee surgery/replacement Please keep these members and their families in your thoughts and prayers We wish all of our members well and wish for their speedy recoveries golf is waiting! BOARD OF GOVERNORS MEETING NOTES Our November meeting was held Tuesday 15 November. As Bob mentioned in his President s message, we had to make some quick moves to save the day with regards to Golfsmith Gift Cards. It looks like we have more work to do to figure out how to best reward our tournament winners. Our Vice- President Jack Meola is working with Board members for options and I m sure it will be handled to the membership s satisfaction in time for the next tournament. The Board approved six new members this month (yes you heard right). Thanks to everyone for promoting our club and making this recruiting effort payoff. Mr. Peter Velasco was a guest at our Board meeting and after observing the meeting, commented on how impressed he was with the Board s handling of affairs and how we collectively managed to keep the club in the financial status that it is. And what great value the club offers to its members throughout the years. As you can imagine the Board loves to hear comments like this as Board members all work very hard to continue and to keep up with the success that NSSGC has enjoyed for more than 43 years. The Board wants to take a moment to thank all previous Board members and Presidents who served over the years and did what they had to do to get us to this point we shall not disappoint our members. By the way, any member who wishes to come to the Board meeting is welcome to do so as we meet the Tuesday after the monthly tournament at 5 PM normally at the Las Vegas Golf Club (muni). Website Update Just So you Know. The website has been updated to make it more user friendly (I hope) by putting all things Tournament related to start out with the word Tournament i.e. Tournament Signup, Tournament Results and so on. As a result of the debacle with Golfsmith closing its doors and member Gift Cards in jeopardy of vanishing, we created an additional menu item on the website titled NEWS FLASH. We plan to use this area for members to find urgent information that needs to be communicated to members. Whenever we post something that is urgent, we will make an effort to notify members via email that there is something of high importance posted to the News Flash area. HAPPY THANKSGIVING Thursday, November 24 to you and your family and friends! Page 4

In Town and Out of Town Events. The Club maintains a tournament handicap system that has proven to promote honest, competitive golf for all participants. The yearly events schedule includes but is not limited to events at local venues such as Painted Desert, Boulder Creek, Boulder City, Las Vegas Golf Club, the 2016 Club Championship at Revere Concord and Lexington in Sun City Anthem, The Legacy and Stallion Mountain just to name a few Out of town events currently include Sky Mountain in Hurricane, Utah, Mountain Falls in Pahrump, Conestoga in Sun City, Mesquite, The Mohave Resort in Laughlin and both courses at Primm Valley Resort. These out of town trips are normally partnership events including two or three days of golf. There is usually a social get-together on Saturday night and the wives often plan an informal golf outing of their own.
