September 09 Newsletter Page 2 FROM YOUR GENERAL MANAGER August is but a memory, and September brings a promise of Hog football and cooler weather, perfect for golf! We re having our Labor Day celebration weekend. I ll have music out at the pool for the last pool party of the summer, good food and good times! Make your reservations for our NIGHT GOLF on September 11 th! We ll have hot dogs and hamburgers before we kick off the competition. We have some large functions on the schedule for September-- wedding receptions, three golf tournaments on Mondays, etc. Thank you for your patience and for understanding the need to schedule so many large events. I want to congratulate Mark Farmer and Stephanie Krauser for their stunning performance on Karaoke night. They received a perfect score and walked away with a reduction in dues for the month of August. Second place goes to Karen Harrison with her rousing rendition of Funky Cold Medina. It almost brought tears to my eyes I was so moved! Third place went to the Pearce and Patty duo! Karaoke night was a huge success and I m planning another one very soon. I also had a great time (while working and judging) and want to thank everyone who attended. We have some great talent here at Maumelle CC! I ve hired some new restaurant help, so I m asking for understanding while they learn the ropes. I am very lucky to have some great people on staff such as Cleata and Sam as MOD s, and we are working hard to get the staff in shape to provide the kind of food and service you expect from Maumelle Country Club. If you ever have any problems with food or service, please do not hesitate to contact me by asking for me right then. If I m not available, contact me via e-mail or call me on my cell number 766-1706, and I will correct whatever problem you had. If you have a good experience at the restaurant, I d love to hear that also! Happy Hour Tues. Fri 5-7pm 10% Off Drinks Tues. Night Family Night Kids Eat Free w/ Adult Entrée Catfish Friday $11 11.95 The return of LADIES NIGHT OUT begins on Tuesday September 15 th. You ll be receiving details via e-mail on the fun night we re planning, so mark your calendar for that event. Even further out, make your plans to attend OKTOBERFEST on October 16 th! I want you to know how much I enjoy being your General Manager. It s not the easiest of jobs, and pleasing everyone isn t always possible or realistic, but it s an honor to be here serving you all. See ya at the club, Jeff President s Message If you haven t noticed the change in appearance of our clubhouse, I encourage you to do so. As you know, we have painted the front, installed a new awning and now, we have a new roof. This new roof was a result of hail damage. Our cart barn also has had a make over. Our clubhouse was in dire need of a new roof and insurance paid for this. I hope many of you have enjoyed the cool weather we had for most of August. Our course is in excellent condition. Jason and his crew have been diligently trying to catch up on their grass cutting. Our membership drive has gone well with 43 new members, 29 of which are new associates under our 40 th anniversary program. We still need more members to put us in a better financial condition. September & October bring several outside and club events. We have the Member-Guest, Oktoberfest, Car Dealers Association outing, etc. Please check your calendar for dates. Revenues were slow in July and first part of August. We feel part of this was due to family vacations. As we get ready for the fall season and the last four months in 2009, I encourage you to use your club. We have a lot to offer. See you either on the golf course or in the clubhouse. Rolfe Kennedy
September 09 Newsletter Page 3 GOLF COURSE UPDATE Summer is not over but it is close! And it has been a great year! August 30 th is the one year anniversary of the opening our Greens and they have been just as good as I expected! I am already looking forward to next year! Please take a minute each day to look at the Superintendent s Wall. I have been using some space next to the large calendar in the downstairs hallway to put up daily Conditions and Updates. I hope that this will answer some common questions about our maintenance routine and daily practices. We have made a minor change in our Cart Path policy. On days when the course is wet and we must be Cart Path Only during the morning, I will revaluate the conditions at 1:30 pm and notify the Pro shop if we change to 90 degrees. One last item-- it has been brought to my attention that certain tees are being moved by members after the tees have been set by my staff. Please do not move the tees. By moving the tees from their original location you may be inadvertently affecting the handicap system. Enjoy your course! Jason Baker Golf Course Superintendent FROM THE PRO SHOP Upcoming Golf Events September 12, 2009 MGA Event @ 9:00 am Sept. 2 nd 9 th, 16 th 23 rd & 30 th Men s Wed. Scramble @ 5:30pm Sept. 3 rd, 10 th & 17 th 2009 Couples Golf @ 5:30pm Sept. 11 th 2009 Couples Night Lite Golf @ 8:30pm Well, the year is more than half gone. We have had lots of rain these last few months so let s hope it doesn t find its way into September. This month marks the start-up of lots of golf for the fall season. Please take a look at the current golf calendar to be aware of the upcoming events. I realize some of them may be an inconvenience, and I apologize. We will be doing everything within our power to work member play in around events whenever possible. Now is the perfect time to bring out guests and gain new members. The weather is cooling off and the course is in magnificent shape. Grab a friend and bring them out. We have some awesome joining incentives that are too good to pass up. The Member/Guest is in October and is also a great event to introduce your guests to the course and lifestyle here at the Club. I want to thank all of you who participate in club functions and help keep this club growing. The MGA events have more than doubled in size, so much that they fill up the entire course. This is truly awesome and a great way to meet new people and possibly find the group you fit in with best. The Couples events are still going strong as well. Be sure to note the Couples Year-End event of September 27 th on your calendar. This is the last event for the Thursday Night Couples Group, and you must have played in three Thursday events to be eligible. I encourage everyone to come out and get involved. After all, you might as well get as much out of the club as possible. Take advantage of the great food and outstanding playing conditions. (PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF OUR GOLF CALENDAR FOR UPCOMING EVENTS) Again, thank you for your time and continued support! Dustin Hamm Head Golf Professional

We have fun, fellowship and some pretty good golf is had by all. By the time you are reading this we have just completed our 1st MGA event with another club. We are starting a new activity this year of playing challenge matches against other clubs. We hope to do this once a quarter-everyone is eligible to qualify to play. Our 1st match was played against Greystone MGA and it was called the Maumelle/Greystone Challenge Match. This should be a great outside activity for our club. I look at it as a way to show off our course and club. During the month your MGA will be working with the 13 Ponders on adding some new items around the course for your benefit. These guys are very talented in what they can do. We definitely appreciate everything they do for OUR course. LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU AT THE SEPTEMBER 12th MGA EVENT -PLEASE COME JOIN US! FITNESS TIP OF THE MONTH DID YOU KNOW that the most effective way to perform cardio exercise is interval training? Using high intensity intervals followed by similar easy bouts gives the most return for your time on a treadmill or elliptical. Interval training increases aerobic capacity, mental toughness, and helps you vary your typical steady state cardio routine. During interval training, you exercise at high intensity for a period of 30 seconds to 3 minutes and follow each interval with an easy period. The harder the interval, the longer the rest period. A typical workout has 5-10 of these intervals and should be followed by a 10 minute cool down. When you re ready to get started, come see us!
