February Meeting Minutes Date: 19 February, 2019 Location: Ryan's Steakhouse, Madison, TN. Members Present: 13 Presiding: Tom Bible, President Opening Remarks: Tom welcomed and thanked everyone for coming out on such a rainy, cold February evening. Treasurer's report: Hayes Graf reported our club's fund balance to be $8,494.94 with 27 members having paid their 2019 club membership dues. Motion made and carried to accept the Treasurer's report and to approve the MCA minutes report of January 2019. Old Business: Tom announced the date for our MCA spring fun-fly event to be May 18th. Dick Tonan, Middle Tennessee R/C Clubs Association (MTRCCA) President, confirmed that this would be an Academy of Model Aeronautics sanctioned event and that a posting of the event will be in the AMA magazine. Registration is scheduled to begin the morning of May 18 at 0730, pilot's meeting at 0830 and flying will begin at 0900. John Forehand requests six volunteers to help conduct the various contests and to aid in timing and scoring or the four planned events in two separate classes. There will be an entry fee of $10 per class (Sport class and 3D class) with awards given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each class. A $5 lunch is planned but is not included in the landing fee. The Beechcraft Heritage Museum in Tullahoma, TN. will again host the Scot Perry Air Academy this spring but no dates for the classes have been announced. The Cumberland Flyers R/C Club will host the MTRCCA spring-fly-in at their Cedar Hill TN. field on June 8th. New Business: Tom Bible and Dave Palmer have worked to replace a corroded ground fault plug at our field's remote charging station with a new power outlet. They explained how the electrical power to our clubhouse and charging stations comes from a 25 amp circuit breaker in the pump house which we can access. We may look to give this remote outlet ground fault protection but for now only a regular plug is installed. Spread the word about the Aviators! February Meeting Minutes Con t Discussion/Announcements: Beginning 25 February, 2019, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations will require all operators of drones and model aircraft weighing over.55 lbs to display their FAA issued registration number and AMA number on the outside surface of their remotely piloted craft. Tom requests that we all be reasonable in our compliance with this new requirement and to make the numbers large enough to be clearly legible, out in the open and not hidden so as to avoid future strict Govt. specifications as to how they must be displayed. We are still in the process of deciding recipient(s) for our previously approved $500 dollar donation to local charities in the Madison area. Area schools, community centers and churches are being considered as well. The Middle Point R/C Flyers club of Murfreesboro is now restricted to electric ONLY. Operators of large gas or nitro planes and turbine jets now have one less place to enjoy their aspect of our hobby. Upcoming Events: February 23 at 10am. MTRCS Chili Fun-fly (Cane Ridge field) lunch at noon. February 26 beginning at 6:30pm. Indoor Flying, pizza party and flying contests with awards. Sponsored and conducted by Family Hobbies of Smyrna at the Highland Heights Church of Christ. This culminates the Smyrna indoor flying season. March 1&2 Southeastern Model Show and Swap Meet at GA National Fairgrounds & Agricenter, Perry, GA. March 16, 8am open to public with $5 admission. Middle Point R/C Flyers Swap Meet. 2350 Armory Dr. Murfreesboro, TN Closing Remarks: Tom stated that we will revert to daylight saving time on the 10th of March. Hopefully this will mark the end of our cold winter weather and the beginning of warmer, longer days to enjoy our sport. Next Meeting: 19 March 2019 at Ryan's Steakhouse and Buffet, 2151 Gallatin Pk. N. Madison, TN. Adjourn: 7:20pm Respectfully, James Harkreader, MCA Club Secretary Spread the word about the Aviators! Meet someone new and want to invite them to join the MCAs?
