The decision of the Council in any matter shall be final. 1. a. Entries: The Society s official entry form complete with all particulars and entry fees MUST be lodged with the Entries Secretary on or before 26 th May 2017. Electronic entries and payments are preferred. Please use separate forms for Tap and Modern Dance. Extra forms may be copied and are also available from the Entries Secretary. NO refunds will be given unless withdrawal is prior to closing date. b. Late Entries: NO late entries will be accepted after the closing date of 26 th May 2017. Please post in plenty of time to reach us by this date. (at least a week before closing) 2

Competitors: These competitions are open to amateurs whose regular income is not derived from the exercise of his or her talents. 4. Eligibility: No person who has been taught or coached professionally by the Adjudicators of any class at any time during the period of two years immediately preceding this Festival is eligible to compete in that section. 5. Age Limit: A competitor s age is reckoned as at the first day of the competitions of the current year Tap/Modern 17 July 2017. Age and date of birth must be shown on the entry form. Every competitor when called upon to do so must satisfy the Executive Council of his/her age or be disqualified. 6. Restricted/Novice Classes: These classes are open to competitors who have not won a first prize/place at this or any other similar competitions festival for amateurs prior to the closing date of entries on 26 th May 2017. 7. Combined/Divided Classes: The committee reserves the right to sub-divide, combine or cancel classes after entries have been received. Aggregate marks will not be affected. 3

8. Time Limit: Unless otherwise stated is 5 minutes. 9. Titles of Items: a. Full titles of all items, including composers and/or authors, must be stated on the entry form. Competitors will perform their items as printed in the programme, changes will not be permitted. If there is a mistake in the programme please contact the Entries Secretary or section convenor and have this corrected immediately. Titles cannot be changed on the day. b. Copies of items to be performed in Vocal, Music and Speech sections must be available for the adjudicator on the day of the competition (30 minutes prior to the commencement of the class). Photocopies are acceptable for this purpose but must be clear and legible. These copies should be clearly labelled with the competitor s name, class number and number in class. The teacher s name must not be visible to the adjudicator. ALL music photocopies will be retained by the committee and destroyed according to the requirements of AMCOS. 10. Order of Performance: Competitors names appear in the programme in the order in which they will compete. All competitors should be in attendance 15 minutes before the commencement of the classes. Those not present when called upon shall at the discretion of the Stage Manager forfeit their right to compete. 11. Stage: No person other than officials will be allowed back stage or at the sides of the stage. 12. Prompting: No prompting or assistance of any kind may be rendered during a performance except by the Adjudicator, or in Vocal classes by the accompanist. Competitors in Instrumental classes are permitted to have a music turner. 13. Accompanist: Competitors must arrange their own accompanist for Vocal and Instrumental and Demonstration Concert. No recorded music is allowed for Vocal. A CD player is provided by the Society for the Dancing Sections and competitors must use the equipment provided. No provision will be made for the playing of cassette tapes. Competitors must provide a separate CD for each piece of dance music (especially important for groups) otherwise the Committee takes no responsibility for playing the wrong music. 14. Rehearsals: No rehearsals on stage are permitted except for the Senior Ballet Variation. 15. Repetition of Performances: a. No competitors having won first prize with an item at any Festival of this Society shall render this item again as an Own Selection. b. Performance items may only be repeated in PACANZ Nomination Classes, Senior Ballet Variation, Ballet Championships, Modern Championships or Restricted Dance Classes. 16. Communication with Adjudicators: Communication with Adjudicators by competitors, parents, teachers or other interested parties, prior to, during or after this Festival, is absolutely prohibited. 17. Cups And Trophies: All Cups and Trophies MUST be returned by 30 th May each year. Please contact the person listed at the top of each section Any trophy which is not returned in time for presentation to the following year s winner will be deemed to be lost and incur a replacement charge of $100.00. All trophy winners are responsible for engraving of their names. Entries may not be accepted, or fines may be incurred if not returned by 30 th May Please ensure if cups are returned by Courier or Mail they are packed correctly, any damage will be the responsibility of the sender. 4

18. Prizes: In addition to monetary and trophy prizes: Certificates & Ribbons will be awarded at the discretion of the Adjudicator Certificates for 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd, Ribbons for Very Highly Commended, Highly Commended and Commended. Medals will be awarded for 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd placings for the under 12 year classes. Monetary prizes will be awarded as follows: 1-5 competitors First prize 6-9 competitors First and second prizes 10 or more competitors First, second and third prizes Incentive prizes will be awarded at the discretion of the Adjudicator Prize monies awarded are conditional on suitable sponsorship and donations being received. The Society reserves the right to alter or amend any prize money awarded. 19. Properties (Props): In the Speech Character section no heavy properties will be allowed and light properties only at the discretion of the Stage Manager. Dancing properties are to be kept to a minimum. Substances such as powder, liquids, or anything which may affect the surface of the stage to the detriment of other competitors are prohibited. 20. Protests: Any protest must be lodged in writing to the Entries Secretary within 24 hours of the Adjudicator s award in a particular item, together with a statement of the grounds on which it is based and including a sum of $20.00 as guarantee of bona fide. The decision of the protest committee shall be final. 21. Scholarships: All previous winners may compete for the same scholarship again with the exception of the Principal Aria, Junior Ballet Variation and Senior Ballet Variation 22. Championships: a. Vocal championships: These will be decided on the aggregate of marks over the stated classes. b. Dance championships: Competitors will repeat a dance from one of the classes indicated in the Syllabus. 13 year old competitors who enter the Senior Ballet Variation may not enter the Senior Championship. 23. Dress: It is expected that all competitors will be dressed in a manner appropriate for performance, their age and a family audience. 24. Video Equipment: Application for video rights MUST be obtained from the Convenor of each section prior to the competitions commencing. Competitors may only have their own performances video-taped or otherwise recorded. 25. Competitors compete at their own risk. 5

National Young Performer Awards The 2017 National Young Performer Awards will be held in Palmerston North, at the Regent on Broadway Theatre, the Speirs Centre and the Globe Theatre, hosted in conjunction with the Palmerston North Dance Assn & the Manawatu Performing Arts Competitions Society Prize Package The total 2015 prize pool is $42,000, including promising and potential prizes, medals and sashes. All prize money is subject to funding and availability. PACANZ reserves the right to alter the amount of Prize Money. Duo s and Trio s: an individual may enter a maximum of two dances (with different partners) in each class (all names and ages to be on one form please). Modern Championships: competitors repeat their modern solo dance and must have performed in at least one other age group solo class e.g. lyrical, contemporary, jazz, hip hop, musical theatre. Self-Choreographed: this must be the student s own work. It must be no shorter than 1 minute and no longer than 2 minutes. It can be performed in any style of modern dance (not tap dance). Acrobatics: we are unable to allow these moves for safety reasons as it is only a small stage Note: A Dance Floor will not be laid for these competitions 7

NATIONAL YOUNG PERFORMER AWARDS Entry Fee $15.00 HVPACS 2017 Nomination for Amateur Troupes/Groups (no singing) ANY AGE Class 528 Lyrical, Hip Hop/Urban, Modern Jazz, Expressive/Contemporary, Tap Competitors may be of any age. Competitors may only compete in ONE nominated Troupe/Group. B. Each Troupe/Group shall be nominated at a Member Society Competition by performing in any dance genre pertinent to the Competition they enter. This competition is for amateur troupes/groups only and is not open to professionals*. No singing allowed. C. There shall be a maximum time limit of five minutes, taken from the beginning to the conclusion of the music. A penalty of 5 marks will be imposed if the time limit is exceeded by 10 seconds or more. D. Troupes/Groups who gain nomination must be able to attend the National Young Performer Competition which will be held in Palmerston North. Compulsory Registration/Orientation will be on the evening of Thursday 13th and the Competition will be on Friday 14th October 2016. E. The winning Troupe/Group will be announced at the completion of Competition on the Friday and it would be appreciated if the group were available to perform at the Final Award Concert on Sunday night 16th October 2016. F. Costumes, choreography & music should be appropriate to the age of both the competitors and suitable for a family audience. NB. Troupe/Group members names and age, as well as the Entry Fee, will need to submitted on the Official Entry form, no later than 6th September 2016. Nominees in the Troupe/Group section are required to include performance copies of their music on CD when submitting their entry form, and a list of the titles and composer and/or artists for each piece.
