From the decorations to the program to the food it was a great night. We had over 100 youth attend. Way to go Shawnee County! In November Shawnee County had 8 youth attend the Kansas Youth Leadership Forum at Rock Springs 4-H Center. They had a great time learning about leadership and meeting new 4-H friends from across the state. If you have never attended a State 4-H Event you should go to at least one. KYLF, Discovery Days and CIA are great ways to experience 4-H on the state level. We have lots of fun County 4-H opportunities coming in January. I have a personal goal to have all 12 clubs represented this year at Jr. Sr. Lock-In! Events Council has secured a speaker to provide the main part of our Leadership program. Check out the article about Lock-In in this chatterbox. Then invite some friends to attend with you on January 19 th! I hope everyone has a Happy Holiday season! If your club carols or does community service this time of year please send pictures to the office. We can post them on our Facebook page! Sincerely, Candis 1

Don t have a sewing machine, let us know and we can match you up with a machine to get you started. Enroll in the clothing project and look for the emails with the details. Or contact Angie McConnell at 785-213-2353 or angie.mc@cox.net. Hope to see you there! Kansas 4-H Dog Judges Certification and Training News By Deryl Waldren The Kansas 4-H Dog Judges Certification and Training will be January 25-27, 2019, in Wichita, Kansas at the Sedgwick County Extension Center. Beginning the training on Friday evening has allowed participants in one weekend to learn about the four dog phases of showmanship, obedience, agility and rally obedience of the Dog Care and Training Project. Those attending to become judges or to re-certify as judges experience judging classes to practice the skills necessary to effectively judge local 4-H dog shows. This is also a good opportunity for local project leaders and older 4-H members to observe the training to learn new knowledge and to better understand how they will be judged at invitational and the Kansas State Fair 4-H Dog Show. Details for registration will be available in late November, so please share the dates with potential judges and project leaders in your Extension Unit. For more information, contact Deryl Waldren, dwaldren@ksu.edu; or call 785-462-6281. 6

Indian Creek The Indian Creek 4-H club had a busy month this November. The club attended achievement night and was the committee to decorate for the event. We had many earn pins along with our Purple Seal Award, with Emma Biggs and Taylor Russell earning their Key Awards. The club also made Gingerbread houses for the TPAC s Gingerbread Homes for the Holidays competition, had their 12 and under placing 1st and their 12-17-year-old category placing 2nd and 1st. Auburn This month was the Auburn 4-H Club s annual family potluck dinner. Everyone brought food to share for the meeting and ate as the business was conducted. Also this month, the Auburn and Silver Lake clubs partnered to make cookies for the veterans at the National Guard Museum in thanks for letting us use their facility for Officer Leader Training last month. Together, we were able to donate 25 dozen homemade cookies. They were very grateful for all the cookies donated, and the veterans plan to use them all year for get-togethers and other special events at the museum. The thank you sign was made by the Louderbacks and signed by the youth. Phyllis Lee Willard, 93, recently passed away. Phyllis was a former leader of the Auburn 4-H Club and loved to sew and quilt. Her family set up a memorial fund in her name to benefit the Auburn 4-H club. We would like to thank her family for their kind donation and we look forward to honoring her legacy in 4-H.
