Passes can can be purchased for $6.95 per month or $49.95 per year. HEAD COACH JIM ZALESKY Jim Zalesky is in his eighth season as head coach at the University of Iowa. He has a school and career record of 112-24 (.824). Named National Coach of the Year in 1998 and 1999, and Big Ten Coach of the Year in 2004 and 2000, he has led the Hawkeyes to three NCAA (1998-00) and three Big Ten titles (1998, 2000, 2004). Zalesky has coached 10 NCAA Champions, 20 Big Ten Champions and 36 all-americans at Iowa. He was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in June 2004, the University of Iowa Letterman s Club Hall of Fame and the Iowa High School Athletic Association Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2002, and the Iowa Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1994. A three-time national champion and one of Iowa s 15 four-time all-americans, Zalesky was an assistant coach and head recruiter at Iowa under Dan Gable for seven seasons (1991-97). He was named Assistant Coach of the Year by the N.W.C.A. in 1992 and 1997. Undefeated as a junior and senior, Zalesky ended his career on an 89-match winning streak. ILLINOIS FIGHTING ILLINI Illinois is 10-0 overall and 1-0 in the Big Ten with wins over Central Missouri State (51-0), Tennessee-Chattanooga (27-9), Clarion (37-7), Wyoming (47-0), Wisconsin (25-12), North Carolina State (40-0), Augustana (39-0), West Virginia (34-6), Oklahoma (21-12) and Minnesota (20-15), and a loss to Oklahoma State (22-15). Head Coach Mark Johnson is 150-35-1 in 13 seasons at Illinois and 170-39-3 in 15 seasons as a collegiate head coach. He served as an assistant coach at Iowa under Dan Gable from 1982-90 and as a graduate assistant for the Hawkeyes from 1978-80. Illinois Assistant Coach Jim Heffernan was a four-time all-american and Big Ten Champion at Iowa (1983-87) at 150 pounds, winning the NCAA title in 1986. Illinois returns all-americans Kyle Ott (125), Mark Jayne (133), Alex Tirapelle (157), Pete Friedl (174) and Brian Glynn (184) from the 2004 squad that went 13-1 and placed third at the Big Ten Championships and

NORTHWESTERN WILDCATS Northwestern is 8-1 overall and 1-1 in the Big Ten with wins over Northern Illinois (21-13), Augustana (37-9), Wisconsin-La Crosse (33-9), North Carolina-Greensboro (27-12), Drexel (24-12), Buffalo (29-9), Eastern Illinois (41-3) and Purdue (27-10), and a loss to Indiana (22-14). Head Coach Tim Cysewski is 108-142-5 in 15 seasons at Northwestern. He was an all-american at 134 pounds for Iowa in 1976, and a four-time Hawkeye letterwinner (1973-76). Wildcat Assistant Coach Tony Ersland also wrestled at Iowa, lettering from 1994-97. The Wildcats are led by senior Mike Kimberlin (157), juniors John Velez (125) and Matt Delguyd (197) and redshirt freshman Jake Herbert (174). THE SERIES Illinois -- Iowa leads the series, 43-24-1, and has won the last three meetings. The Hawkeyes also hold a 21-16 edge in Champaign. Iowa s last win in the series was a 40-4 victory in Iowa City in 2003. Illinois last win over Iowa was 20-16 in 1999 in Champaign. Northwestern -- Iowa leads the series, 60-6-1, and has won the last 35 meetings. The Hawkeyes also hold a 29-3-1 lead in Evanston. It was Iowa s 31st straight victory in the series, and the 780th dual win in school history. Iowa won decisions in the first two matches, but found itself in a 11-6 deficit after Wisconsin won bouts at 174, 184 and 197. Iowa used freshman Matt Fields 15-4 major decision at heavyweight and sudden victory wins by freshman Charlie Falck at 125 and junior Marion Galanakis at 133 to take a 16-11 team lead. Wisconsin grabbed three team points with Ed Gutnik s 7-2 win over Alex Tsirtsis at 141 to make the team score 16-14 and the win a possibility for the Badgers with a win at 149. Hawkeye senior Ty Eustice spoiled the Badger s upset plans, scoring his 70th career win with a 3-2 decision over Craig Henning to end the meet. Hawkeye juniors Joe Johnston (157) and Eustice reached career victory marks, as Johnston picked up his 75th career win and Eustice won his 70th career match. The Hawkeyes 99 Big Ten Champions have won a total of 180 conference individual titles. There have been seven four-time, 18 three-time and 24 two-time Iowa winners. Iowa s 124 all- Americans have earned all-america status 254 times, including 16 four-time, 27 three-time and 28 two-time honorees. STEINER & DUROE TO COACH WORLD TEAMS Iowa Assistant Coach Troy Steiner and Administrative Assitant Mike Duroe were recently named coaches for the 2005 U.S. Freestyle World Championships teams by USA Wrestling. Steiner will coach the women s team with Bill Scherr, while Duroe will coach the men s team with Joe Seay. Both teams will participate in the World Championships at Budapest, Hungary, Sept. 27-Oct. 2. CHAMPIONSHIP EXPERIENCE The Hawkeye wrestling staff of Jim Zalesky, Troy Steiner, Tim Hartung, Cliff Moore and Mike Zadick earned a total of seven NCAA titles, 12 Big Ten titles and 17 all-america honors. Their combined college career wrestling record is 619-88-1 (.875), including four undefeated seasons.
