A Note From the Pro It is just turning April yet with the fantastic weather we have been having lately it feels like we are already on the verge of Summer. The course is greening up quickly as the Bermuda grass starts to grow, the flowers begin to bloom, and trees begin to bud. Dan and his staff have been doing an excellent job of keeping the courses conditions as good as we have seen in recent years. With these great conditions we have seen an increased amount of play by both members and outside play alike. Let s all make an effort to keep the course in the best possible conditions we can by raking bunkers, filling in divots, and fixing ball marks even if they are not your own. If a rake seems to have migrated away from its normal position, don t be afraid to move it back where you think it should be. The golf shop staff will continue to constantly monitor the course to make sure all of our visitors and guests will be doing the same. Also with the arrival of great weather and increased play on our wonderful golf course it becomes more important to make sure we are booking our tee times. The Member-Reserved tee times are always in place, however please do not forget to actually book your tee time within the two week booking window to make sure you have a tee time when you arrive at the course. Also we have had a lot of success getting morning tee times within the 72 hour peak season window, as well as booking tee times at all of our sister Myrtle Beach National courses. It has been a treat for those that have taken advantage of this, so if you have not done so give a couple of the other courses a try. I look forward to seeing you all out and about soon at the golf course. Riley Kinlaw Head Professional

For those of you unfamiliar, The Race is our take on the PGA Tour s Fed Ex playoff system where points are awarded based on performance in events throughout the golf season. Last s years Race generated a lot of excitement and we are hopeful 2011 s version will offer more of the same. This year s Race will be slightly tweaked based on the great input that was received during last year s tournament season. The way points are scored for 2011 has been modified to greater reward participation as well as recognize good play. Instead of winnings being converted into points, a set points system will be put in place and awarded according to where you place in the event, keeping the field tight throughout the year. This should create a lot of excitement when we enter the home stretch in the fall. Here is the new point s breakdown: 1 st Place = 50 points 2 nd Place = 40 points 3 rd Place = 30 points 4 th Place = 25 points 5 th Place = 20 points All places awarded lower than 5 th or specialty contests (i.e. closest to the pin) = 15 points Participation without placing = 10 points The lady and the gentleman earning the most points after the last qualifying event will be crowned Pawleys Plantation Points Series Champion and will receive a $250 gift certificate redeemable in the Shop, as well as bragging rights for a year! If there is a tie for top points after the final qualifying event, a nine hole match-play tiebreaker will be set using the players nine hole handicaps. Remember, participation is the key to earning your points if you want to be the Points Series Champion you have to play! 2011 Qualifying Events April 23 rd May 20 th 22 nd May 29 th June 6 th 7 th July 4 th July 17 th September 4 th September 5 th September 17 th 18 th November 12 th - 13 th November 26 th Easter Bunny Hop Tournament Men s Member Guest Member Mixer Ladies Member Guest Independence Day Tournament Couples Championship Men s Derby Ladies Derby Men s & Ladies Club Championship Men s & Ladies Member-Member Turkey Shoot Tournament

Remember this is also a qualifying event for the Race to the Finish points series the more you play the better your chances!! Happy Easter to all Pawleys members and their families. We're glad to see a lot of you out practicing and playing in the terrific Spring weather. One member asked me recently How can I improve my short iron distance control? Try the 'waist-high drill to improve body rotation and eliminate manipulation from the hands. Hit practice shots with your irons, starting each swing with the club held in a waist-high back-swing position. The only way you can execute this swing is with proper body rotation through impact and into the follow-through. Practice this and you'll achieve tremendous distance control. You can also go all the way up to your driver with this drill. NEW! Introducing Clearview Putters for sale at the golf school. This exciting new putter not only looks great, it actually trains you to get the putter flat. Certain lines on this glass-like putting face become visible to you only when your stroke breaks down. That's fantastic feedback, which will motivate you to increase your putting practice. Stop by the school to check out this piece of equipment that was very HOT at the recent PGA Show in Florida. Sign up soon for our bi-monthly Tuesday afternoon clinics. 1 to 2 hours from 1:30pm at $35 per person. Call us at (843) 237-4993 for dates, availability and registration. For further info, you may visit our website at www.ritson-sole.com or call us at 843-237-4993 or 800-624-4653. See you on the tee! Mel & Rosemary
