There were 22 starters for our annual sorry day, a 2- ball multiplier. It was a close contest for the winners cheque with Brad Keats and Charles Zahar on 78 just nudging out John Stoffels and Phil Croaker on 77, these boys obviously managing to avoid wipes. Peter O Driscoll and Ray Harrison 66, Kyle Brereton and Terry Page 65, Brian Leadbeatter and Ray Bourne 63 made up the minor places. Brad Keats had the day s best individual score of 39 from Phil Croaker and Adam Kemp 37, Charles Zahar and Ray Harrison 36. Brad completed the day winning the raffle as well as two NTP s and the B-grade long drive. Special welcome to new member Peter Phair who will now be valuable back up to help Greg Robson in all pairs events. April 9 There were 32 very keen members at The Ridge (there were also two very disappointed members who couldn t play) for a 2-ball best ball stableford event. The popular duo Adam Kemp and Jason Papworth went from the cellar (pink ball) last week to the penthouse this week with a fantastic team score of 54 stableford points. Runners up were Ian Pickering and Rob Hill on 49, then Ray Bourne and Dave Hopkins 48, Greg Robson and Peter Phair, Brandon Parkes and Phil Croaker, John Masters and Max Bogenhuber, Clayton Severino and Rob Hill, Christian Todd and Kyle Brereton, Jordan Munro and Lachlan Sears all on 47 a match recorder s nightmare. Adam Kemp had a big day also winning the individual with 45 points, followed by Ray Bourne on 43 then another 6 on 42. April 16 The conditions at Port Kembla on Easter Sunday were perfect for golf and the 20 members who hit off early enjoyed the weather and the challenging course. The day s stroke event was closely fought out between two of our younger members, Kyle Brereton beating Christian Todd on a countback with a nett 68. Rohan Tranby was next with 70, then Colin Mable, Adam Kemp and Max Bogenhuber 71, John Masters and Mark Cole 72, Charles Zahar and Brad Keats 74. Monthly medals: A-grade Rohan Tranby, B-grade Christian Todd, C-grade Kyle Brereton
Rohan had a great day winning three NTP s including the money hole where he sunk the putt and collected the jackpot of $70. April 23 Another sensational autumn morning at Bankstown for the first round of the Alf Paton Memorial 2-ball aggregate trophy. There were 37 members keen to enjoy this championship golf course and, though the conditions were perfect, only 5 were able to better par. The winners of the day s 2-ball event were Brent Seldon and Rohan Tranby with a total of 72 stableford points just in front of Brad Keats and Charles Zahar on 71. Dean Paterson and Dave Nicholson 69, Christian Todd and Jordan Munro 67, John Stoffels and Phil Croaker 64, John Masters and Max Bogenhuber 62 filled the minor places. Dave Nicholson had a super round scoring 43 points to win the individual award from Brad Keats on 40 and Christian Todd on 38. April 30 We continue to be lucky with the weather and there were 29 members who made the trip to Calderwood Valley for the third round of the matchplay qualifiers. The course was in fine condition and our players took great advantage returning some outstanding scores. Jordan Munro led the way scoring 45 stableford points from Matt Brooks (on yah, Matt) on 43, Dave Nicholson 41, Marl Cole, Adam Kemp, John Masters and Ian Pickering 39, Brandon Parkes 38. Matchplay winners: Ross Dunstan, Jordan Munro, Adam Kemp, Brandon Parkes, Peter O Driscoll, Brian Leadbeatter, Lachlan Sears, John Masters, Dave Hopkins, Jake Barlow, Dave Nicholson Shots of the day 1. Dave Hopkin s eagle two on the par four third hole. From over 100 metres Dave s sand wedge landed a metre in short of the flag, ran past then spun back into the hole. Dave was especially happy as this was his first eagle on a par four. 2. Mark Cole s amazing birdie on the 17th. Mark sliced his tee shot and it ended up three cm deep in mud on the edge of the lake. From this lie he blasted his chip 40 metres through a gap between branches in a nearby tree to hit the pin and fall in the hole. It was a shot that could have been from the recent Masters tournament.
What a picture from the 4 th tee at Calderwood.
