Ohio State returns 10 letter winners and four starters from a 2012-13 squad that advanced to the NCAA West Regional Final (Elite 8). The Buckeyes are led by preseason All-Big Ten point guard Aaron Craft, who was one of 15 players named to the USBWA s Oscar Robertson Award watch list, given annually to the national player of the year. Craft averaged 10.0 points, 4.6 assists and 2.1 steals for OSU last season. Ohio State opened the season with an 89-50 win over Morgan State on Nov. 9 in Columbus. Junior LaQuinton Ross posted a double-double against the Bears with 14 points and 11 rebounds. HISTORY vs. OHIO STATE Ohio State holds a 15-4 advantage in the all-time series between the teams. The Bobcats and Buckeyes first played during the 1925-26 season in Columbus, where OSU won 37-33. The teams last met in 1994-95 in the Preseason NIT, when Ohio won 74-67 at St. John Arena behind 26 points and 15 rebounds from Gary Trent. Two of Ohio s 11 wins all-time against top-25 opponents have come against the Buckeyes. Ohio upended No. 16 Ohio State, 82-80, on Dec. 13, 1969, in Columbus and upset the No. 4 Buckeyes on Dec. 11, 1971 in Athens. HISTORY vs. BIG TEN OPPONENTS The Green & White have posted a 22-63 all-time record against teams currently in the Big Ten Conference. Ohio s most common Big Ten opponent is the Buckeyes (4-15), followed by Indiana (5-9) and Northwestern (5-8). Quote of the Week We re challenging ourselves with the schedule because we believe we have potential. This was a good game to build off of on our home court - Senior guard Nick Kellogg on Saturday s win over UNI and Tuesday s contest at No. 11/10 Ohio State NEWS & NOTES HISTORY VS. RANKED TEAMS Ohio has posted an 11-49 record all-time against teams ranked in either the AP poll or ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll. The Bobcats are 3-5 at home, 4-26 away and 4-18 on neutral courts all-time against ranked foes. Two of those neutral court wins have come in the past five seasons, as the Cats defeated No. 15 Georgetown (97-83) in the 2010 NCAA Tournament and No. 14 Michigan (65-60) in the 2012 NCAA Tournament. The Bobcats last regular season win came at No. 11 Syracuse (61-55) on Dec. 4, 1998. The last home win was on Jan. 31, 1996 vs. No. 23 Eastern Michigan.

The Bobcats will suit up against the Buckeyes on Nov. 12 for the first time since the 1994-95 season. Ohio also will host A-10 favorite Massachusetts in December. The average 2012-13 RPI of Ohio s non-conference opponents is 152, compared to last season s average of 168. The league schedule will include 18 games for the first time since 2005-06. The Bobcats will play each East Division foe twice, as well as MAC West opponents Western Michigan and Toledo on two occasions. KELLOGG NAMED MAC EAST PLAYER OF THE WEEK For his efforts in Ohio s 75-64 win over Northern Iowa on Nov. 9, senior guard Nick Kellogg (Westerville, Ohio) was named the MAC East Player of the Week Monday. It marked the first time in his career that Kellogg earned the honor. GOLDEN AGE OF OHIO HOOPS In what is quickly becoming the golden era of Ohio University men s basketball, the Bobcats have participated in post-season action for a school-record four-consecutive seasons (2 NCAA, 1 NIT, 1 CIT). Over the past two campaigns, the Bobcats have set a program record with 53 combined victories (24 in 2012-13; 29 in 2011-12). The team also has posted at least 22 wins in three of four seasons for just the second time in school history. INTIMIDATING FRONT LINE The Bobcats will feature one of the most active front lines in the MAC this season. Ohio returns one of its top defensive players in redshirt senior Jon Smith (Grove City, Ohio), who ranked seventh in the MAC in blocks last season and is eighth all-time at Ohio in that category (97 career blocks). In addition, the Cats welcome junior college transfer Maurice Ndour (Mbour, Senegal), who ranked 27th in the NJCAA in blocks and 13th in rebounding last season. Ndour averaged a double-double (16.2 ppg, 10.6 rpg) at Monroe College (N.Y.) in 2012-13. Smith and Ndour combined for six blocks in the opener versus UNI. TRAVELS WITH MAURICE Newcomer Maurice Ndour may well be the most worldly student-athlete to ever enter the Bobcat program. A native of Mbour, Senegal, Ndour left his home country as a teenager to pursue a high school basketball career in Japan. After four seasons at Okayama Gakugeikan on the island of Honshu, Ndour began his college career at Monroe, a junior college in New Rochelle, N.Y. As a result of his world travels, Ndour is fluent in five languages: English, French, Japanese and two African dialects (Wolof and Serer). Ndour was ranked No. 86 among junior college prospects by JUCORECRUITING. com this past year. BIG CATS The Bobcats will feature one of the tallest teams the program has seen over the past few years. Ohio scholarship players stand at an average of 77.5 inches, marking the highest player height average since the 2008-09 season (77.55 ). KELLOGG SETS SIGHTS ON 3-POINT RECORDS Senior guard Nick Kellogg (Westerville, Ohio) enters his final year in Athens with a chance to surpass a number of school records from beyond the arc. With his second 3-pointer against Northern Iowa, Kellogg moved into a tie with Gus Johnson (1992-96) for fifth all-time in 3-pointers made (205) at Ohio. The senior also is seventh all-time in 3-point attempts (511) and fifth in 3-point field goal percentage (.401). Kellogg also is ninth all-time in games started (98) at Ohio. WILLIS, SETTY READY FOR ACTION After sitting out the 2012-13 season due to NCAA transfer guidelines, junior guard Javarez Bean Willis (Homer, La./Texas Tech) and sophomore forward Treg Setty (Maysville, Ky./Southern Illinois) are eligible to suit up for the Bobcats this season. Willis started 30 of 31 games for the Red Raiders in 2011-12 and averaged 8.1 ppg while distributing 58 assists (second-most on the team). Setty started 10 contests for the Salukis in 2011-12 and averaged 4.4 points and 2.5 rebounds per game. WELCOME FRESHMEN The Bobcats will feature five freshman student-athletes in 2013-14. Guard/forward D.J. Wingfield (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) is a three time first team all-state selection and was named the Ohio District IV Player of the Year in 2012. Forward Antonio Campbell (Covington, Ky./Holy Cross) is a 6-foot-8-inch, 279-pound forward who was named the Kentucky District Nine Player of the Year this past season. 6-foot-10-inch forward Wadly Mompremier (Miami, Fla./Miami Senior), 6-foot-9-inch guard/forward Khari Harley (Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Egg Harbor Township) and 6-foot walk-on Drew Crabtree (Marysville, Ohio/North Union) round out the group. BIG SHOES TO FILL For the first time since 2009, the Bobcats will be without the services of the all-time winningest class in school history. The tandem of Ivo Baltic, D.J. Cooper, Reggie Keely, Walter Offutt and David McKinley combined for 94 wins over four seasons while leading the team to three NCAA Tournament victories, an NIT berth, two MAC Tournament titles and a MAC regular season championship. CHRISTIAN S MAC CROWN Head coach Jim Christian enters his second season on the sidelines for the Bobcats. With his 25-10 record at Ohio, Christian has improved his winning percentage as a MAC skipper to.706 (163-68), the best mark in conference history by a sizable margin. His conference game winning percentage of.750 (90-30) is second only to Bill Rohr (.757), who led Miami from 1952-1957. A LOOK BACK AT THE 2012-13 SEASON u Ohio earned a berth in the NIT for the first time since the 1994-95 campaign. It was the team s fifth bid in school history.

Tom Crean, Head Coach at the University of Indiana; Coached with Christian at Western Kentucky It says a lot to be able to attract the all-time winningest coach in your conference s history to your school. Jim Christian and Ohio University should be a great match. The all-time winningest coach in Mid-American Conference history, Jim Christian became the 17th head coach in Ohio men s basketball history in April 2012. A two-time Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year, Christian has led his teams at Ohio, TCU and Kent State to a combined seven post-season appearances in 11 seasons on the bench. During his career, Christian has mentored three All-Americans, three MAC Players of the Year and 28 all-conference selections. In just his first season at the helm in Athens, Christian earned NABC District 14 Coach of the Year honors after leading the Bobcats to a share of their first MAC regular season title since the 1993-94 campaign. The Bobcats earned a berth in the National Invitation Tournament for the first time since 1995 and tied Ohio program records with 14 league wins and seven MAC road victories. Ohio s 24-10 record increased Christian s winning percentage while in the league to.704 (162-68), the best mark in MAC history by a sizable margin. Christian s squad led the nation in assists per game (17.5) and ranked seventh in the country in turnover margin (+4.7), behind All-America honorable mention point guard D.J. Cooper. The first MAC Player of the Year from Ohio since 1995, Cooper ranked eighth in the nation in assists per game and became the first player in NCAA Division I history to record at least 2,000 points, 900 assists, 600 rebounds and 300 steals in a career. In addition to Cooper s superb campaign, Christian mentored a duo of third team All-MAC selections in Walter Offutt and Reggie Keely. Under Christian s tutelage, both seniors earned All-MAC honors for the first time in their careers. Christian returned to the MAC in 2012 after completing four seasons as the men s basketball head coach at Texas Christian University. In his final season in Fort Worth (2011-12), he led the Horned Frogs to their first postseason appearance since 2005. He coached six All-Mountain West Conference honorees, including first-team choice Hank Thorns Jr. and third-team pick J.R. Cadot. Thorns also appeared on the watch list for the Bob Cousy Award presented to the nation s top point guard and was named to the All-District 17 Second Team by the NABC. Thorns led TCU in 2011-12 in scoring (13.5 ppg), assists (4.66 apg) and 3-pointers (72). He also produced one of the top seasons ever for a TCU point guard in 2010-11, as he finished as the only individual ranked among the nation s top-12 players in both assists per game (No. 4) and assist-turnover ratio (No. 12). To begin his tenure at TCU, Christian became the third coach in program history to win his first game as head coach and guided the Frogs to significant victories during the 2008-09 campaign, including home triumphs over Wichita State, UNLV, SMU and Colorado State. TCU notched its first six-game winning streak since the 1998-99 campaign and recorded nine-consecutive victories at home for the first time in over a decade. Christian came to TCU after serving as the head men s basketball coach (2002-08) for six seasons, where he won at least 20 games in each campaign. In his six seasons as head coach of the Golden Flashes, Christian climbed to second place on the all-time career victories list, only 10 triumphs shy of the record. Under the guidance of Christian, the Golden Flashes garnered five postseason appearances in six campaigns, including a pair of trips to the NCAA Tournament (2006,. Not only was the former Kent State head coach selected as the Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year in two of his final three seasons, but Christian also led his team to its first-ever top-25 ranking after peaking at 23rd in the nation in the Associated Press poll and 24th in the ESPN/USA Today poll. While the Golden Flashes excelled in non-conference action, Christian s teams saved their best games for Mid-American Conference opponents as Kent State recorded a 79-28 record (.738 winning percentage) while never finishing lower than second in the East Division during his six-year tenure. Over the course of his final three seasons, Christian led the Golden Flashes to a 40-10 (.800) conference mark, including a pair of Mid-American Conference Tournament Championships.
