We added new cat e go ries in clud ing new clean ers for ma rine and avi a tion use, biobased clean ing prod ucts, paint re mov ers, mo tor oil and more. With this ex pan sion, we now rec og nize 97 sep a rate prod uct cat e go ries and more than 10,000 unique types of biobased products. The Fed eral gov ern - ment is al ready us ing a wide va ri ety of these biobased prod ucts. Thou sand can kers dis - ease has al ready shown up in some parts of south - east Col o rado, in clud ing Crowley and Otero coun - ties, said Da vis. We are lo cat ing black wal nut trees in our com mu ni ties and look ing at the crowns for any signs of thou sand can kers dis ease po ten - tial. These data will help iden tify gen eral state-wide trends and en - hance fu ture mon i tor ing efforts for our state. Thou sand can kers dis - ease is caused by a fun - gus car ried by the very small wal nut twig bee tle. Once the fun gus is in tro - duced to a tree, it causes small dead ar eas in the bark called can kers. Trees are even tu ally killed by over whelm ing at tacks of wal nut twig bee tles and sub se quent can kers that girdle branches. Cur rently, there are no ef fec tive meth ods for sav - ing trees with thou sand can kers dis ease, and many states east of Col o - rado al ready have quar - an tines pro hib it ing the move ment of wal nut material. Land own ers with black wal nut trees should in - spect them reg u larly for symp toms in clud ing sparse fo liage, leaf yel - low ing or wilt ing, branch dieback and ex ces sive stain ing of the bark sur - face. Any sus pect trees should be re ported to the CSFS. All Col o rado res i - dents can help min i mize the spread of this and other tree dis eases by not moving potentially in - fested wood, in clud ing logs, fire wood, lumber and wood chips.
