NOVEMBER 2009 Editor, Stefanie Gordy Ocean City Marlin Club Board of Directors: Franky Pettolina, President Mark Radcliffe, Vice President Annette Cropper, Secretary Brian Tinkler, Treasurer BOARD OF DIRECTORS: N. Dave Birkett Ron Callis James Jefferson Val Lynch James Giles Bill Regan John Sippel A Message from the President Franky Pettolina Fall is upon us. The marinas are emptying and the boatel and boatyards are filling up. Many of my friends have left for North Carolina, Florida or the tropics. For others it is striper time. Last week I took the Last Call down to Morehead City to get ready for the Giant Bluefin Season. With all of that being said, it is still business as usual at the Marlin Club. The Board of Directors election results are in. First, I would like to thank everyone that ran and I would also like to congratulate the winners. A Board position requires a lot of commitment, and I look forward to working with everyone for the next 2 years. The incumbents that were seeking re-election were all voted in. The open position now belongs to Dave Birkett. Dave has served the Marlin Club as President, Vice President and Board Member in the past. So even though he is technically a new BOD member, Dave brings a wealth of experience to the table, and I am very happy to have him back. The Seasonal Awards dinner was a huge success. Our members had a tremendous season and this year represents the most impressive collection of accomplishments in many years. I extend congratulations to all of the winners, it is the truly an honor to be President of such an extraordinary fishing club. Speaking of successes, the November monthly dinner was probably the best monthly dinner I have ever been to. Dee, Shirley, Mike and the rest of the staff put Dates to Remember Every Sunday Watch the Game at the Clubhouse with NFL Ticket and food specials Saturday, December 5th Club Christmas Party Live Music with DJ Thursday, December 31st Club NYE Party Appetizers all night Live Music with DJ $75.00 per person February 7th Super Bowl Tailgate Football Fare & Plenty of Beer! Caught on 6/20 Angler Jim Hughes Weighed in at the OCFC Pictured from left to right are Jim Hughes, Terry Layton (Nontypical) and Franky Pettolina at the 2009 Seasonal Awards Ceremony. For a complete list of winners see page 4 & 5. The elevator fundraising campaign has been going well. We have a ways to go yet, but I am sure that John and Dee will get the job done. The pledge board will be kept updated at the clubhouse and online, so be sure to keep an eye on the progress. In closing this month I want to wish everyone a happy holiday season, and I look forward to seeing you all at the Club over the holidays. For those of you that are somewhere warm and sunny catching fish, keep me informed and I will be sure to pass it on through the Bill and the website. See you all around the club Franky on an incredible feast. Throughout the evening members were coming up to me and saying what a great time they were having. At one point, while Mike was walking from the catering kitchen to the bar kitchen, he received an ovation from all in attendance. I echo those sentiments now. Thank you again to all those who made the November dinner possible. The membership renewal letters were mailed last week. In the letter that accompanied the renewal form I mentioned that the seasonal awards, tournament series, and club theme nights and specials will be expanding throughout the coming year. I have been hard at work both with the Auxiliary, Club staff and with the fishing committee to ensure that all of these ideas come to fruition. Keep an eye out for email blasts and future Marlin Bills for more details (and be sure to get those dues in on time!!)
