thelift STUDENT STAFF RECOGNITION The CRC & Reid Pool will close at 5pm on Sunday, April 23rd to recognize our student staff! Relieve Some Stress! The month of April is notorious for many spring time activities such as rain showers, flowers and funny April fool s pranks. However, as students it can also be a stressful time in the semester with the semester long projects and paper due dates approaching. With all your work and extracurricular activities, it is easy to get bogged down with stress. Here are some tips for you to help manage your stress over the last few weeks of the semester! Exercise: Working out regularly is a natural way to relax your body and your mind. Exercising can also help improve your overall mood and reduces your risk of many chronic diseases. Relax your muscles: Your muscles get tense when you are stressed out. It is important to loosen up your muscles and refresh your body! You can do this by stretching, enjoying a massage, taking a hot bath or shower and getting a good night s sleep! Deep breathing: Take a minute from all your work and extracurricular activities and take some deep breaths. This is an easy way to help take some of the pressure off you right away! Once you make this a priority and a regular activity in your daily routine, you will feel much better and it will help relieve some of the stress you are feeling. These three tips are some of the most useful tips to help manage your stress. It is important to recognize your stress and take some time to care for yourself and your body. Stress can put a lot of pressure on you, so following these simple tips can help make your April a much happier and less stressful month. Also as the weather gets nice, try to spend some time outdoors. Research shows that spending time outdoors can actually make you healthier! We have had some curing issues with the resurfacing oil in previous years, thus the reason why we are closing early on that Wednesday. This will give the curing process more time to solidify so that the courts are ready for the heavy play they receive. We plan to re-open on Monday, May 22, but please be aware that you may still smell some of the resurfacing odor once we re-open. We apologize in advance for the odor! thelift thelift is a publication of Campus Recreation & Wellness at WCU Cullowhee, NC 28723 828.227.7069 reccenter.wcu.edu WCU is a University of North Carolina campus and an Equal Opportunity Institution. EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH Megan Maglione is from Concord, NC. She is a senior majoring in Biology, concentrating in Ecology and Evolution, with a minor in Chemistry. Megan s advice to her fellow coworkers is, as ambassadors of the CRW, which is an imperative branch of the university, your position is much more than a part-time job. You are a representative of the university! Come to work with this mentality and your shifts will feel more worthwhile. The most enjoyable thing about working at the CRC for Megan is smiling or laughing most the time. Everyone makes this place a pleasurable environment. In Megan s view, you owe it to your own body to be active. Stimulating your body will in turn stimulate your mind and lifestyle, making you a happier, healthier person. Her personal journey with lifting, which started in August, has helped her fight anxiety, feel more comfortable in clothes, and feel more body-confident. MEMBER OF THE MONTH Assael Mendoza-Santos is originally from the Southside of Chicago. He started at WCU in 2013 and is currently a senior in his last semester. Assael is a double major in Finance & Business Management. After graduation, he plans to be either a financial advisor or a banker. Assael s favorite way to workout is running. In fact, he will run a mile as a warm up prior to every workout. Assael has been working out regularly for over a year and it has resulted in the loss of 50 pounds! Congratulations Assael on being chosen member of the month. We enjoy seeing you regularly! Have someone in mind for Employee or Member of the Month? Nominate them by filling out the appropriate form next to the bulletin board recognizing our current nominees. thelift PAGE 5
