This is Loyola s longest-running series against any Missouri Valley school, dating back to Jan. 16, 1928. The Ramblers are 2-1 (.667) all-time against the Braves on a neutral floor, including their 74-72 triumph in an Arch Madness opening round game decided on a three-point, buzzer beater from Milton Doyle. The teams split the two regular-season meetings this season, with each winning on the road. Bradley used a Donte Thomas three-pointer with 13 seconds left to escape Gentile Arena with a 54-53 win, sending the Ramblers to an 0-5 Valley start. Loyola gained a bit of revenge in the rematch, stifling Bradley and holding it to 29% shooting from the floor in a 54-43 victory on Feb. 10 in Peoria. MORE MONTEL = MORE WINS Although Montel James has had a bit of a roller coaster season thus far, his production is integral to Loyola s success. As the team s primary post scorer, Loyola has typically had success when he has played well and he has scored in double figures in 10 of the 13 LU wins in which he has suited up for ( - Creighton), including eight of the last nine. In addition, the Ramblers are 8-2 (.800) this season when he shooting 50% or better from the floor (min. 5 FGA). However, James has struggled a bit to score the ball over the last two games, hitting just 4-of-17 (24%) of his shots from the floor in that span, including a career-worst 2-for-11 game in the finale against Drake. His season splits are below: MPG FG% FT% PPG RPG Wins 26.7 51.7 80.0 14.7 8.0 Losses 25.4 36.5 75.4 9.8 5.7 JAMES AMONG VALLEY S BEST In an incredibly talented and experienced Missouri Valley Conference, Montel James had a breakthrough season and established himself as one of the league s top big men. After a regular season in which he posted team-highs of 12.1 ppg, 6.8 rpg and 26 blocks shots, he became the first Loyola player since the Ramblers joined the Missouri Valley to earn Second Team All-MVC honors (Doyle 14, Thomas 15 were named Honorable Mention All-MVC). James six double-doubles in conference play were second only to Evansville s Egidijus Mockevicius (14) among Valley players and were the most by a LU player in a single season since Christian Thomas recorded seven during the 2012-13 campaign. In addition, James has grabbed double-digit boards in each of LU s last three games, the first Loyola player to do that since Andy Polka in 2010, and is trying to become the first Rambler to do it in four straight contests since Ryan Blankson accomplished the feat way back in Feb., 2002

PORTER MOSER PORTER MOSER Creighton, 1990 Overall Record: 175-191 At Loyola: 70-90 vs. Bradley: 7-10 In his 12th season as a head coach and fifth at Loyola University Chicago, Porter Moser is known as a tireless recruiter and master game tactician. A graduate of Benet Academy, Moser is a native of Naperville, Ill. and came to Loyola following a stint as the associate head coach at Saint Louis University under legendary head coach Rick Majerus. Moser and the Ramblers took a big step forward last season, winning 24 games - the third-highest single-season total in program history - and capturing the CBI Championship in Loyola s first postseason appearance in 30 years. The Ramblers also saw their final RPI improve 205 spots from the 2013-14 season, the thirdbiggest improvement in Division I, and their 24 wins were the most by a Chicagoland school since 2004. Named one of the top 50 assistant coaches in the nation by Basketball Times in 2009, Moser helped Saint Louis to a 69-61 overall record during his four years on staff and his recruiting efforts helped land several of the Billikens players that have guided the program to back-to-back NCAA Tournament berths. No stranger to the Missouri Valley Conference, Moser was the head coach at Illinois State from 2003-07. Prior to his stint at Illinois State, Moser compiled a 54-34 record in three seasons as head coach at Arkansas-Little Rock. Taking over the Trojans program at only 31 years of age, Moser turned a 4-24 team into an 18-11 squad in one season, the greatest turnaround in Sun Belt Conference history. Moser graduated from Creighton University, where he was a guard for Tony Barone s program, in 1990. In 20 previous matchups, the 8-seed has gone just 7-13 (.350) in opening round games against the 9-seed, including three consecutive losses (Last win: Indiana State over SIU, 66-51, in 2012). All told, No. 8 seeds are 7-37 (.159) all-time in the MVC Tournament and have never advanced as far as the semifinals, something that Loyola will look to change, starting tonight DOING IT WITH DEFENSE - VALLEY EDITION While its offense has improved, Loyola s defense has been the catalyst for its turnaround. The Ramblers limited UNI and Evansville to just six field goals apiece in the second half and outscored Missouri State by 12 after halftime in their win in Springfield. He has scored in double figures in six of seven Valley road games since moving to the bench (12.3 ppg) and finished with a game-high 20 points at Drake, his first game with 20 or more since pouring in 26 against Toledo on Nov. 21. As his home/away splits show, Doyle has, historically, preferred the confines of Gentile Arena and he has been markedly better at home this season 2015-16 FGs FG% 3FGs 3FG% FTA PPG Home (16) 68-144 47.2 17-45 37.8 4.8 13.3 Away (14) 50-137 36.5 12-45 26.7 2.6 9.5 CAREER FGs FG% 3FGs 3FG% TOs PPG Home (43) 206-413 49.9 54-138 39.1 3.2 14.6 Away (44) 160-425 37.6 44-148 29.7 3.4 11.1 STICKING TO THEIR WINNING FORMULA An old basketball adage says that defense and rebounding win games and championships and that has proven to be true for Loyola over the last two seasons, with the Ramblers not able to follow it quite as often this season as during its 24-win campaign last year. As the statistics show, Loyola usually wins when its defense put the clamps on its opponent and it stays tough on the boards 2014-15 FG% OppFG% Opp3FG% Reb Margin PPG Opp PPG Wins (24) 49.8 40.0 29.4 +1.9 67.4 56.8 Losses (13) 42.4 49.7 38.7-6.5 54.4 67.2 2015-16 FG% OppFG% Opp3FG% Reb Margin PPG Opp PPG Wins (14) 46.4 38.2 31.8-1.2 70.3 59.5 Losses (16) 39.9 48.2 38.5-7.4 58.9 69.8 THEY SHOOT, THEY SCORE, THEY WIN One of the things that Loyola prides itself on is its offensive efficiency and the Ramblers shot over 47% as a team overall and over 39% from the three-point line last season. However, their numbers are down a bit, as they are shooting just under 43% through 30 games. Why is it important? Loyola is 35-5 (.875) since the start of the 2014-15 season when shooting a higher percentage than its opponent but just 3-23 in that span - and 7-72 (.089) under Moser - when losing the shooting battle. Loyola saw its 19-game winning streak when shooting at least 50% from the floor snapped in the home loss to Illinois State but it has still won 22 of its last 23 games when making at least half of its shots

Last year, the Ramblers were an outstanding 18-1 (.947) when leading or tied at halftime but have slumped to 10-7 (.588) in such games this season (6-5 in MVC play), squandering sizeable, second-half leads against Missouri State (10), Bradley (11) and Illinois State (9). The second half woes against Valley teams are detailed below: Opponent Halftime Lead Final Score @ Indiana State +2 (28-26) -15 (58-73) Missouri State +6 (29-23) -2 (54-56) Bradley +2 (23-21) -1 (53-54) Illinois State +3 (40-37) -8 (70-78) @ Drake +5 (28-23) -10 (59-69, OT) INFERNO EXTINGUISHED, DONTE TRYING TO REGAIN HIS FORM While Loyola returned four of five starters from last year s team, sophomore Donte Ingram had the unenviable task of trying to fill the void left by the one departing starter, Christian Thomas, who scored 1,353 points and grabbed 684 rebounds in his illustrious career. After struggling a bit at the start, Ingram found his rhythm and averaged 9.2 ppg while shooting 47% from the floor over a 10-game stretch that coincided with the Loyola slowly moving up the MVC standings. However, he has really struggled to find the range lately, hitting just 4-of-20 (20%) from the floor over the last two games, including missing all 10 of his attempts from downtown (has missed last 12 three-pointers dating back to Missouri State game - Feb. 21) FGs FG% 3FGs 3FG% PPG MVC Wins (7) 23-49 46.9 10-22 45.5 8.4 MVC Losses (11) 24-72 33.3 4-29 13.8 6.6 LOOKING FOR BETTER VERSUS THE BRAVES For whatever reason, Loyola really struggled to consistently put the ball in the basket in the two games against Bradley this season. The Ramblers averaged only 53.5 ppg against the Braves, its lowest two-game average against any Valley team this season, on 38.3% shooting (29% 3FGs) but relied on a stout defense that limited the Braves to 48.5 ppg on 34.3% accuracy (24% 3FGs). While neither game was a thing of beauty, Loyola only trailed for 27 seconds total out of the 80 minutes played (led for 72:51, tied for 6:42), yet that was enough for Bradley to steal the first meeting in the Windy City TEXAS TWO-STEP After missing the first Wichita State game due to a hamstring injury - the first game he had missed in his career - Devon Turk has come back with a purpose. The senior sharpshooter scored 22 points against Indiana State in his first game back, one of three 20-point games since Jan. 30, and is averaging 14.3 ppg over his last nine games. The most prolific threepoint shooter in Loyola history, Turk has struggled from the arc this season (career-low 36%) but has canned 11-of-18 (61%) from distance over the last three games. This season has shown the evolution of his game, with an improved mid-range game being a big reason why he is averaging a career-best 10.8 ppg TURK CAREER 2FGs 2FG% 2FGA/Gm % of Shots 3FG First 3 yrs 79-191 41.4 1.9 72% 2015-16 69-122 56.6 4.2 53% FABULOUS AT THE FOUL LINE While Loyola has struggled, at times, to make shots this season, one area where it has excelled as been at the free throw line. The Ramblers went 34-of-40 (.850) from the stripe in the win over Indiana State, including a school-record 18 makes from Montel James, and have kept it going ever since, going 140-of-180 (78%) from the free throw line over the last nine games. While the Ramblers finished the regular season second in The Valley from the line (74%), their shooting struggles against Bradley carried over to the stripe, where they shot only 64% (27 of 42) in the two games. For perspective, Donte Ingram missed only eight free throws all season (37 of 45) but five of them game in the two games versus the Braves (7 of 12)

The Ramblers enter tonight s game shooting just under 43% as a team, which would be their lowest shooting percentage since 2011-12, head coach Porter Moser s first season. For some perspective, Loyola shot the ball at a 47.4% clip last season, shooting 50% or better 13 times and 40% or lower only in only four games. By contrast, the Ramblers have hit 50% or more of their shots six times in 30 games this season but have already been held under 40% on 10 occasions, including a 31.9% effort in the regular-season finale at Drake that was percentage points away from their worst shooting night of the year (31.7% at New Mexico). The offense had been coming around lately, as Loyola put up 67.4 ppg over its last 12 games (66 or more points in seven of them) after averaging only 55.0 ppg in its first six MVC games (Record: 1-5). More offense is a good thing, as Loyola is 11-6 (.647) this season when scoring over 60 points PLENTY IN RESERVE INDIVIDUAL GAME NOTES SCORING OVERALL VALLEY Montel James 12.1 (13th) 12.7 (11th) Milton Doyle 11.5 (18th) 10.8 (20th) REBOUNDING Montel James 6.8 (3rd) 7.2 (3rd) Milton Doyle 3.0 (7th) 2.6 (T-12th) FT PERCENTAGE Montel James 78.2 (7th) 80.0 (8th) 3FG PERCENTAGE Ben Richardson 43.2 (1st) 36.0 (n/a) BLOCKS Montel James 1.0 (3rd) 0.8 (T-6th) With so many different options, it is not surprising that Loyola has received excellent production from its bench this season. The Rambler reserves have outscored their counterparts in 15 of 18 MVC games and contributed an average of 26.2 ppg in 30 regular-season games, with 34 individual, double-digit scoring performances. Incredibly, that number has jumped to 36.3 ppg over the last 13 games since a change in the starting lineup saw the Ramblers top three scorers relegated to the bench. The bench accounted for a schoolrecord 69 points in the win over Indiana State. That production included three reserves reaching double figures for the first time since Feb. 11, 2012 and marked the first time since Jan. 17, 1983 that two bench players tallied 20 or more points (Andre Battle 22; Chris Rogers 21 vs. Oklahoma City). The Ramblers had four bench players crack double figures at Southern Illinois for the first time in recorded history (box scores go back to 1977) and the group accounted for 54 of the team s 73 points on Valentine s Day against Evansville, including 30 of their 37 in the second half DOWNTOWN DOLDRUMS Loyola s shooting struggles, particularly compared to last season, are detailed above and part of that can be attributed to a decline in production from the three-point line. Last season, the Ramblers knocked down a single-season record 224 trifectas at a 39% clip but they have hit just 177 so far season while shooting just 34% from the arc. The accuracy drops to only 32% in Valley play and dips to 28.6% (45 of 157) in the second half of their 18 Missouri Valley games. That futility proved costly on Saturday at Drake, as LU went 5-for-25 (20%) from downtown for the game and just 1-of-13 in the second half and overtime * school record

FOR STARTERS, LOYOLA GIVING DIFFERENT LOOKS While searching for consistency, Loyola has tried a myriad of different starting lineups this season, with all 11 scholarship players earning at least one start. With Earl Peterson and Tyson Smith sidelined, the Ramblers debuted their 11th different lineup so far this season on Saturday at Drake and their opening night lineup of Doyle-Peterson- Turk-Ingram-James has started only 10 times (LU record: 3-7) ALL OR NOTHING FOR LOYOLA S BIG 3 Loyola has been playing better basketball over the last six weeks and the improved play of its top three scorers is a big reason. As the numbers below illustrate, the trio of Doyle/James/Turk has run hot and cold in Loyola s wins and losses FGs FG% 3FG% FT% PPG WINS 186-367 50.7 38.1 78.9 40.9 LOSSES 158-417 37.9 29.7 68.4 28.4 SIGNED, SEALED AND DELIVERED With four seniors on the current roster, Loyola began to prepare for the future as it signed a pair of guards to a National Letter of Intent earlier this week. The Ramblers welcomed 6-foot-4 Cameron Satterwhite (Gilbert, Ariz.) and 6-foot-3 Bruno Skokna (Zagreb, Croatia) into the family, with the duo eligible for competition at the start of the 2016-17 season. Satterwhite is a high-flying guard who averaged over 18 ppg last season and is ranked as the No. 2 prospect in the state of Arizona while Skokna capped an outstanding summer by finishing as the second-leading scorer at the European U-18 Championship in Greece, pouring in 17.2 ppg for his Croatian side TURK AMONG ELITE SHOOTERS Despite struggling, by his standards, from the three-point line this season, Devon Turk is certainly one of the elite shooters in The Valley. Heading into Arch Madness, he ranks third among active players with 256 three-pointers made (including Horizon League totals), behind only Matt Bohannon (264) and D.J.
