M A R C H 2 0 1 5 the SAPL News Your Look Into the Library Battle of the Books! The battle has begun! Stop in each week to vote for the top-winning book. The brackets are up and it s all up to you. It s Luau Time!!!!! Are you or do you know someone between the ages of 9 and 13? Then we have just the fun time for you, a Luau! Join Jill on Saturday, March 21 st at 1:30pm for a great time. There will be party games, Limbo is a must! You will also be competing in a smoothie contest! What will you put in your smoothie? What will you name it? Will it be the best tasting smoothie around? Winning smoothie recipes will be on the library s website and Facebook page. You are encouraged to dress for the event! REGISTRATION REQUIRED! Do not worry if you have not read the books, it just about choosing which you would like to read. Each week the books will be narrowed down until we announce a winner at our party on Friday, March 27 th, 2015 at 5:00pm in the Learning Center. Round 1: March 2-7, 2015 Round 2: March 9-14, 2015 Round 3: March 16-21, 2015 Round 4: March 23-27, 2015 Join us for the fun and excitement of seeing which book will win! Save the Date! Luau: 3/21/15 Tweens are invited for a fun afternoon of smoothies and Limbo! Battle of the Books: 3/27/15 Join us at 5pm to find out who the winner is of the battle! Bookmarks: All Month Design a bookmark that could be printed and given out at the library!

National Library Week Gear up for the fun of National Library Week! Celebrate with us Now through April. National Library Week is April 13-18, 2015. Food for Fines During National Library Week (April 13-18) you can pay off your overdue fines * using non-perishable food items! Each item you bring in will equal $1.00 in fines we will remove. All food will be donated to the local food pantry at the end of the week. * Replacement costs for lost or damaged items will not be waived. Amnesty Week For one week only (April 13-18) you can return any overdue items (no matter how far back they were due) and we will waive the fine, no questions asked. This is your get out of jail free card! Pie the Librarian Penny War For the month of April we will be having a penny war to pie the librarian of your choice! Bring in your pennies and decide who will get a pie in their face! On Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at 4:00pm we will pie the winning librarian and everyone is invited! So bring those pennies in! All funds raised will be used to help purchase library wish list items (February 2015 newsletter). Doc McStuffins Party Join Doc, Lambie, Stuffy, Chilly, and Hallie on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 1:00pm in the Learning Center for a fun time. Children should bring their favorite stuffed friend for an afternoon checkup. Children will get to make their own toy stethoscope and play some fun games. A light and healthy snack, just what the doctor ordered, will be served. Everyone is welcome to join the fun. 2

Story Hour Fun Something new each week! Story Hour is a fun program that happens every Tuesday at 10:00 am in the Learning Center. You can also join us for Play Group on Tuesdays at 9:00 am in the Learning Center. These programs are geared toward children ages birth to five but everyone is welcome. This month we will be having a lot of fun doing the following activities: March 10 Come Spring Ahead and spend TIME learning with us. We will be playing a fun clock game and making our own clocks. March 17 Happy St. Patrick s Day! Do you know why we celebrate this day? Come and find out. Maybe you ll be the special one who finds the leprechaun! March 24 Iditarod Day! Learn about dog sleds and the Iditarod race. Participate in our own version of the Iditarod. March 31 HAPPY EASTER! Join us for our annual Easter Egg Hunt in the library and some fun books about Easter. April 7 Think Spring! Let s spend time thinking about all the wonderful things that come with spring green grass, flowers, birds chirping, and warmer weather. We hope to see you at one or all of our fun days. Early Release Day Movie Join us for a special movie on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at 1:30pm in the Learning Center. The schools get out early and what are the kids going to do? Well, come to the library for a movie day! We will be showing the new version of Annie! Rated: PG Annie is a young, happy foster kid who's also tough enough to make her way on the streets of New York in 2014. Originally left by her parents as a baby with the promise that they'd be back for her someday, it's been a hard knock life ever since with her mean foster mom Miss Hannigan. But everything's about to change when the hard-nosed tycoon and New York mayoral candidate Will Stacks makes a thinly-veiled campaign move and takes her in. 3
