Report on Sports and Games, June-October, 2013 (I semester) The volleyball team for men created history by winning the All Inter-Collegiate Invitation tournament Bosm-2013, organized by Birla Institute of Technology and Science,, from 16-22 September, 2013. The basketball team won the IV place in the tournament. The basketball team for women made history by winning the Runner-up position in the NBA JAM 3x3 National Tournament, 2013, held at from 28-29 September, 2013. They beat Delhi and in the league and lost to Bangalore in the finals. The basketball teams for Men, Women and Junior Boys created sensation by winning the titles in the NBA JAM, 2013 3x3 tournament held at MJICT, Hyderabad, from 5-6 September, 2013, and created history of sorts by winning three out of the four titles in the tournament. The Men and Jr. Boys teams also participated in the Nationals held at. The basketball team for women won the place (Runner-up) in the Independence Cup tournament organized by YMCA, Secunderabad, on 15 August for the second in succession. The basketball team for women won the position and the Gyan Chand Memorial Trophy in the Open Invitation Tournament organized by District Sports Authority, Hyderabad, at Gymkhana grounds. The football team won the Sports Coaching Foundation Trophy by its triumphant victory in the 7-a-side football tournament organized by Sports Coaching Foundation, Masab Tank, Hyderabad, and also won a prize money of Rs. 5000/-. The Football team participated in the Sachdev Cup Memorial Football tournament organized by Shastri Club, and reached the semi-finals. The volleyball and basketball teams for men participated in the South Level Bertram Memorial Tournaments, 2013, at Loyola, Chennai, from 25-29 September, 2013. Inter-Collegiate Tournaments 2013-I Phase The basketball team for men won the Inter-Collegiate title for the fourth in succession, defeating A.V. in the finals on 11-12 Sept, 2013. The basketball team for women won the Inter Championship and were declared winners by beating Villa Marie. This is first time in the history of the college that the women s team has won the championship, held from 16-21 Sept, 2013. The volleyball team for men repeated their superlative performance to win the volleyball title for the second in succession beating A.V 2-1, from 5-6 Sept, 2013. The handball team for men once again established themselves as the best team in the university by winning OU Inter- Handball Title for the second time beating Bhavan s in the finals with a score of 22-18, on 1 Oct, 2013. The Table Tennis team for women under the indomitable leadership of the international player Nikhat Banu, ably assisted by Arifa Shaik, won the OU Inter Title for the third consecutive in the OU Inter - Championships held at Loyola Academy from 20-21 Sept, 2013. The volleyball team for women repeated their performance by winning the position in the OU Inter- Tournament, 2013, held at St. Francis, from 11-12 Sept, 2013.
The college men s team in table tennis made history by winning the first ever place trophy in the OU Inter- Championships. The college Football team for men reached semi-finals and won the IV place in the OU Inter- Championships, 2013. Loyola Swimmers, Yogender of B.Com Prof. and Rishi Kumar of B.Com Hons., made history by winning 1 Gold, 4 Silvers and 1 Bronze in the Free style and back-stroke events in the OU Inter- Swimming Championships held at OU swimming pool on the 20 August, 2013. This is first time that the college fielded its swimming team in the meet. In Chess, Loyola stood at the Ninth position with 11 points, among 32 colleges, in the OU Inter- Chess Tournament, 2013. These competitions witnessed keen contest among teams with almost 18 departments vying for the honors. Around 1200 men and women participated in these tournaments. CT, in the third position with 8 points Organization The college organized the Inter-Collegiate Table Tennis Tournament, 2013-14, for women in the Inigo Hall from the 20-21 September, 2013, in which around 20 teams participated. Fr. K.A. Stanilaus, Rector, Loyola Academy, inaugurated the tournament on the 20 September. Loyola Academy TT team won the championships beating St. Francis Degree 2-1. Shri. Nagaraj and Shri. Venugopal, renowned coaches from the Gujarat Seva Mandal TT Academy graced the occasion as guests of honor and distributed the prizes to the winners.
