Club Websites Upgrade For some time the existing club website provider has not kept pace with what clubs have required. The decision was made by Swimming Australia to source a new provider for club websites. With the assistance and guidance of Optus, Swimming Australia selected the same Club Website solution that Cricket, Netball and Tennis Australia are all currently using. New club websites will come with an exciting new look, and a range of new features that will ensure clubs can promote themselves in the best possible way. Customer Relationships Management System Upgrade - Introducing 'Swim Central' For some time, the reliability, flexibility, and adaptability of both Club- LANE and MyLANE has been a significant concern to all within our sport. 12 months ago, Swimming Australia (SAL) and partners began looking at long-term options, beyond the existing technology solution and provider. Swimming Australia and partners opted to align with the style of technology solution that sports like the AFL, Cricket Australia and Tennis Australia have developed. Underpinned by a significant investment by Optus, work began in July of 2017 to specify a new technology solution. Swim Central is being developed by Swimming for Swimming with input from key stakeholders from across the country. It will be a tool owned by SAL and partners of the sport. How to find Swim Meets There are plenty of Swim Meets that happen all around NSW. They are easily found using the Swimming NSW website. Patrick, Brielle & Brad will be attending meets to support and coach all of our swimmers. They meets that they are due to attend will be listed on our Facebook page as a TARGETED MEET. All other meets listed on our page and the Swimming NSW page will be listed as NOT TARGETED. They will be listed for your convince only and no coach will be present. Below is an example of how to find the Swimming NSW Event Calendar. WSC Winter Development Meet Our Winter Development Meet is now closed!! We have reached full capacity which is great news as this meet is our major fundraiser for the year!! Swimming Metro North West 2018 Winter Championships will be held from the 9/6/2018 to the 10/6/2018 at SOPAC. This is a targeted meet & all competitors need to be in WSC uniform.
Nick Keith Commonwealth Games Report It was good. It was fun. It was exciting. I invariably answer with something like these when I'm asked about my time at the Commonwealth Games. I'm not great at expressing how it was, and I always undersell it. It was an absolute blast. It was the kind of experience you wish would go on forever, for the people you're with and the spectacle of the event. The Commonwealth Games Trials in late February and early March was the first major part of the experience. We became familiar with the venue and operations and saw some good swimming, while also getting to experience some nasty heat in our black uniforms with black seats. On resuming your seat, you would be waiting desperately for the next chance to stand, and many officials took to sitting on their programs to be a little more comfortable. Despite this, the four days of swimming went by very quickly, and during this we were lucky enough to be able to collect our uniforms for the Games. Most of the officials here were also going to be at the Games, giving us a good chance to come together as a team beforehand, knowing at the end of the Trials that we'd be seeing each other five short weeks later. Then the Games themselves. We arrived on the Gold Coast the morning three days before competition would start, with most of this time free. After checking into the Sea World Resort and finding out who we'd be sharing a room with for ten days (I was with fellow SMNW official Phil Jobling), I spent the rest of the day relaxing. The following couple days we spent some time at the venue, seeing how it had changed since Trials and being part of a rehearsal. I also went to the main souvenir shop and walked around Sea World, free for us as a perk to being officials, and very convenient as we were staying at the Sea World Resort. I was somehow convinced to try the roller coaster at Sea World too, previously quite outside my comfort zone, and apart from pre-ride nerves and being a bit shaky afterwards, I enjoyed it and it was much better than my next most recent roller coaster attempt. As it turned out, I went to Movie World with a few other officials on our day off after all of the competition and loved going on all the roller coasters there, so I'm grateful to have tried this smaller one first. The evening we attended the Opening Ceremony was our first time dressed in our formal uniform as a team, making it in some ways the start. I don't have much to say about the Ceremony, but our seats were great: close to the front and near where the athletes paraded out from. Whatever you thought of the Ceremony, it seems it was better in person, being able to see the whole picture of each scene. As for the actual swimming, it was incredible to watch. Our officiating development in Australia is excellent, so apart from being a little more nervous at first because it was the Commonwealth Games, it wasn't really any different to officiate than other meets, just with some slight changes in our protocols to match those of FINA. Because it was all so automatic, when we didn't have to focus on what we were doing it was easy to just watch the races from some of the best seats. The whole atmosphere at the stadium was amazing, almost every seat filled for every session of competition and the cheering of the crowd throughout. A few moments that really stick out to me are the very first race of the meet, a women's 400 IM with both Meg Bailey and Blair Evans, and hearing and feeling the crowd erupt and cheer the two of them to top the heat. This really set the stage for me for how the 6 days would feel. I also enjoyed the day during which I was reserve, for both being able to just watch the swimming and other officials, but also being stationed near the flag raising for the national anthems, and being able to hear the commands given for this was cool and interesting. The lap of honour following each medal ceremony didn't drag on either, and just felt like part of the experience. In terms of races being good, I find it hard to go past the final two relays, again with the enormity of the crowd's cheering and being able to watch from a great position. And of course, the whole final evening was great to watch for all the Australian gold medals. There was a sense of sadness at the end of competition, everyone was humbled to have been part of it all and to have experienced it together. We had a team dinner together the night after competition ended, before we parted ways again. I have so many great memories from this all which will, hopefully, last a lifetime; I've not covered too much here. I feel so lucky to have been part of it all and plan to continue working at officiating the best I can, and I strongly encourage anyone who's interested in officiating to just ask, it's very rewarding at all levels.
Friday Club Night 1st June 15th June 22nd June 29th June Presidents Report Hi all, Start time 6:45pm Volunteers are needed every week to help the night run. We need everyone to help in order to start & finish on time. I think things are going swimmingly of a Friday night. We have loads of new little swimmers which is great for the future of our club. Please be mindful that without helpers on a Friday night we can t run the night and I do ask that any parent that has a child swimming in the distance events at the end of the night stay back to assist with time keeping and pack up. We have the Metro North West swimming carnival in June, I can see we have entered a good size team with some great relays set for the weekend also. Good luck to all our swimmers, our coaches and parents. have fun and safe travels to you all.
