NAV-COM OFFICER o Radars are on and functioning properly o Both GPS units are on and functioning properly o Chart Plotter is on and functioning properly o VHF radios are on and functioning properly o VHF handheld radios are functioning properly and distributed to the Chief Mate, Bridge Deck, and Coxswain o UHF handheld radios are placed on bridge-deck and fwd for lookout o Local Charts (with up to date corrections) are on Chart Table. Harbor Chart on the Bridge Deck o Coast Pilot, Light List, Pub 117, Nautical Almanac, USCG Navigation Rules, Bowditch, Seaway Handbook, Chart #1, and Tide Tables (if applicable) are stowed in the cabinets, outboard of the port chart table. o Binoculars, dividers, triangles, and pencil on the bridge deck o Running and steaming lights are functioning properly o Both Horns work o Fathometer is on and functioning properly o General Alarm works o Fluxgate compass on and functioning properly o Rough log and pencil to the radio/ yeoman o Appropriate Security call is made on VHF Channel 16 & 13 (check with Captain) o Ship s Logbook is up to date and on the starboard chart table Completed By: Date:

SAFETY OFFICER o Ring Buoy lights and MOB poles are attached to ring buoys, are ready to deploy, and in good condition. o PFD s are all aboard, stowed in their correct location, and in good condition o Exposure Suits are all aboard, stowed in their correct location, and in good condition o Cutter I has the engine key, dead man switch key, spare dead man switch key, eight PFD s, boat kit, at least 1 completely full fuel tank, 4 ten-foot oars, 1 eleven-foot sweep oar with a transom oar lock, and a working flashlight o Signal Flags are stowed in the Sick 4 th Mate s Cabin. BOATSWAIN o Guns are properly secured for sea o Top of sweeps is properly secured for sea o Brows and net are struck and stowed as needed. o Dock lines are properly singled-up, chafe gear removed o Sail covers are off and stowed in sail crib o Port Anchor is off the rail, but not catted, with a fluke lashing and shank lashing made off to cleats to drop anchor quickly, if necessary. Fluke is just over the rail cap s edge. Cat falls are off the anchor. Anchor is on the cat stopper. o Anchor Day-shape is stowed behind the forward ladder; anchor light is under the starboard chart table. ENGINEERING o Top up water tanks the afternoon before departure. o Sound Sewage tanks the afternoon before departure. o Sound Fuel tanks the afternoon before departure. o Sound and fill as needed the day-tank, one hour before departure. o Check fuel shutoffs for correct position (operate weekly). o Check all fuel valves on the fuel manifold before each start-up. o Fire up main engines and a Mase generator one hour before departure. Secure machinery when water temperature is up to normal operating temp. o Check marine gear oil level while engines are on. o Check gear shift and throttle controls to ensure they are functioning properly. o Check that the electric Fire pump is lined up correctly. o Check that the Main Engine driven bilge pump clutch is operating properly. o Check all battery voltages. o Check that battery chargers are functioning. o Check that deck starts are functioning properly. o Check engine instrument gauges on deck and in engine room that they are functioning properly. o Check main engine alarm panel in nav station. o Secure Shore Power 30 minutes prior to departure. o Keep Engine Room log book and the Engineer s Log book up to date.
