Danielle Adams scored 24 points in 22 minutes in her Texas A&M debut and the Aggies stunned No. 6 Duke 95-77 on Nov. 15, 2009. The Aggies (1-0) took the lead near the midway point of the fi rst half and didn t trail again. Despite poor shooting, the Blue Devils (1-1) cut the lead to three points with about 14 minutes remaining, but the Aggies scored 10 straight points to make it 65-52 and Duke didn t threaten again. Adams scored seven points in that span, including a nifty off-balance layup which she turned into a three-point play. Sydney Colson made a free throw to cap that run and then sprinted to the star at midcourt for an airborne chest bump with Tanisha Smith as a timeout was called. Texas A&M got 19 points from Smith, 17 from Colson and Sydney Carter added 14. Damitria Buchanan had seven rebounds and tied an A&M record with seven blocks. Jasmine Thomas had a career-high 26 points for the Blue Devils and Allison Vernerey scored 11. This game was a much tougher test for the Blue Devils after they beat tiny Houston Baptist 104-35 in their opener Friday night. Against the Aggies they were foiled by poor shooting as they made 26 of 78 shots while Texas A&M was 33 of 58. Texas A&M had nine three-pointers while Duke made four of 20. The Aggies were up by 13 points when Duke fi nally got going and went on a 11-1 run to get within 55-52 on a jumper by Thomas with about 14 minutes left. But Adams and the Aggies thwarted the rally to cruise to the win. Texas A&M was up by 15 points before scoring six straight points thanks to a missed layup and two turnovers by Duke to make it 82-61 with about 6 minutes remaining. Texas A&M took a 13-12 lead with about 12 minutes in the fi rst half when Carter hit both free throws after Karima Christmas was called for an intentional foul after pushing her down from behind on a fast break. That was the start of an 8-0 run that pushed Texas A&M s lead to 19-12 about 10 minutes before halftime. Duke cut the lead to four points before the Aggies went on another 8-0 run fueled by two three-pointers by Carter to make it 31-19 with fi ve and a half minutes left in the fi rst half. The Blue Devils got within fi ve a couple of minutes later but Texas A&M outscored them 10-5 to lead 45-35 at halftime. Selby Steps Up... Playing in front of a large amount of family and friends at Pittsburgh, junior Shay Selby had a banner day with a career-high 15 points, four steals to match a career high, three rebounds and two assists in a season-high 23 minutes on Nov. 24. She hit a careerhigh three treys on three attempts and hit 6-of-9 fi eld goals. Her play at Pittsburgh led to her making her fi rst collegiate start at Charlotte. Selby missed the fi rst two games due to a groin injury. Peters Playing Big Off Bench... Blue Devil freshman Haley Peters continues to provide a big lift off the bench. Peters has notched double-fi gure scoring in three out of the last six contests. She is hitting 61.2 percent of her fi eld goals on the season. Versus Western Kentucky, she hit 8-of-11 fi eld goals, totaled a career-high 17 points, two assists, two steals and one blocked shot. At Pittsburgh, Peters scored all of her 12 points in the second half. Peters has been the fi rst sub for Duke in fi ve of the eight games. Completed Road Swing... Duke completed its four-game road trip on Thursday, which started on Nov. 24 at Pittsburgh. The Blue Devils then defeated Charlotte (Nov. 27) and James Madison (Nov. 30) and Wisconsin (Dec. 2). The four-game true road swing was only the second since 1988-89 and only the seventh in school history. The Blue Devils had a four-game road trip in 2005-06 where they won all four games against Maryland, Georgia Tech, Boston College and Holy Cross. Other years with four-game road trips were in 1986-87, 1982-83, 1981-82, 1980-81 and 1977-78. Digital Yearbook Now Available... Duke senior Jasmine Thomas hit a season-high three three-pointers and scored 14 points, while freshman Chelsea Gray scored 13 second half points to lead fi fth-ranked Duke to a 59-51 victory at Wisconsin on Thursday night. The victory closed a four-game road swing for the Blue Devils. The Blue Devils clinched the win for the ACC in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, 6-5. Duke (8-0) shot only 33 percent (20 of 60) from the fi eld. But the Badgers (2-6) were sloppy with the ball and couldn t capitalize on several opportunities due to 21 turnovers. Taylor Wurtz s three-pointer pulled the Badgers to 41-38 with less than eight minutes to go. Duke fi nally created some breathing room with an 11-3 run, sparked in part by a full-court press and swarming defense that either forced Wisconsin to turn the ball over or left the Badgers with little time to run their offense. The Blue Devils beat the Badgers on the boards, 45-30, including 20 offensive rebounds that they turned into 11 second-chance points. Wurtz led Wisconsin with 19 points. The Record Watch... Blue Devil senior Jasmine Thomas has a chance to put her name all over the Duke record book this season. Thomas is two three-pointers shy of moving into eighth, she recently moved into 10th place on Duke s assist list, she is 18th on the points list and she is eighth on the steals list.
