Smith returned to the court in the Paradise Jam playing all three contests, but then missed four straight contests to rest her hand. She has started the last three straight games. On Tuesday, Nov. 13, Waner suffered a high left ankle sprain and missed four straight contests before returning against UConn. By missing the South Florida game, Waner broke a streak of playing 70 straight games for the Blue Devils. She has played in eight straight games since missing four in a row. Freshman Krystal Thomas suffered a subluxed left kneecap in the first half at Vanderbilt and did not return. She made her return to action at Houston on Dec. 28 and totaled six points and four rebounds in 12 minutes. Thomas had earned ACC Rookie of the Week honors on Nov. 19. Redshirt sophomore Brittany Mitch was hit below her right eye early in the second half versus South Florida and received five stitches. The most recent injury happened to freshman Karima Christmas at Houston as she sprained her right wrist and is listed as day-to-day. New Season For Blue Devils... After scoring only 49 and 51 points in games nine and 10, Duke came out and registered 95, 92 and 84 points against Utah Valley, Bucknell and Houston, respectively. The last three games have been like a new season for Duke as the offense has started to find its rhythm. In the last three games, the Blue Devils averaged 90.3 points, 22.3 assists, 18.0 steals, 6.7 blocks and turned the ball over only 14.7 times. Duke s opponents have had only 14 total steals in the three games and turned the ball over 30.3 times a contest. Over the first 10 games of the season, Duke averaged only 63.4 points a game, after leading the nation the last six years with an 80.3 scoring average. Over the last three contests, four Blue Devils have averaged double-figures -- Joy Cheek (16.0), Chante Black (15.3), Abby Waner (14.0) and Carrem Gay (11.7). In the rebounding stat, Carrem Gay has averaged 9.0 boards, while Cheek (8.0) and Black (7.3) are pulling down over seven rebounds a game during the stretch. N.C. CENTRAL AT DUKE JANUARY 3, 2008 BLUE DEVIL GAME NOTES GAME 14 Stellar Defense... Duke is coming off forcing over 30 turnovers in two straight games against Utah Valley and Bucknell prior to the Christmas holiday. At Houston on Dec. 28, Duke forced 20 giveaways. On the season, the Blue Devils have forced opponents to more than 30 turnovers on three occasions, while nine of 13 opponents have given the ball away 20 or more times against Duke. Only two Blue Devil foes have shot over 40.0 percent against Duke this season (Connecticut and Penn State). Cheek Coming On Strong... Sophomore Joy Cheek continues to play well in her starting role she took over the last five games. During the stretch she has averaged 13.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 1.0 blocks and 0.6 steals. For the first time in her career, Cheek has scored double-figures in four straight contests. Versus Pittsburgh in the Maggie Dixon Classic, Cheek scored 13 of her team-best 16 points in the second half but her biggest field goal came with 0.3 seconds remaining as she grabbed the rebound off a Chante Black missed jumper and scored the game-winner. She is coming off registering her first double-double of the season and second of her career with 14 points and 10 rebounds at Houston. Over the last four games, Cheek has averaged 16.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.0 blocks, while hitting 75.0 percent from three-point land and 48.3 percent from the field. Cheek is now averaging 10.3 points a game this season, giving Duke three players averaging double-figure points. Waner Puts Mark In ACC Record Book... One of Duke s oldest records was broken on Dec. 18 against Utah Valley as junior Abby Waner registered a school-record 10 steals, while tying the ACC singlegame mark. Waner totaled five steals in the first half and then had five in the second stanza, while playing only 32 minutes. She became only the 11th player in ACC history to total 10 assists in a game and had the fourthhighest single-game total in the NCAA this season. The previous Duke record was nine held by Missy Anderson (vs. Drake, 12-28-92) and Kim Matthews (vs. Davidson, 2-2-79). By notching 19 points and 10 assists for the game, Waner posted her second career double-double. She was also three assists shy of totaling the third triple-double in school history as she finished with seven dishes. Waner s two double-doubles over her career have come with double-figure points/steals and double-figure points/ assists. Life On The Road... The Blue Devils concluded a five-game road trip on Dec. 2 at Penn State. During the road swing, Duke played only one of those contests in the eastern time zone and finished with a 2-3 record on the trip. Duke s 2007-08 schedule is one of, if not the most, demanding schedules Duke has faced over the last number of years with quick turnarounds, travel and tough opponents. During the five-game road trip, the Blue Devils averaged only 60.8 points, hit 41.3 percent of their field goals, 31.3 percent from downtown, and turned the ball over 18.2 times a contest. A couple of notes about Duke s schedule-- Duke played only one home game in the month of November for the third time in school history (2002-03 and 1995-96). (Prior to 1995-96, the season started around Thanksgiving so these years do not count); Duke also had only one home game over the first eight contests, which is a school record -- the closest was two home games over the first eight contests in 1979-80. In Duke s nine games on the road this season, the Blue Devils have amassed 11,334 miles traveled to Denver, Colo., Tampa, Fla., St. Thomas, USVI, Nashville, Tenn., University Park, Pa., New York, N.Y. and Houston Black Continues To Play Strong... After missing the entire 2006-07 campaign, junior Chante Black has made her return this season and has been very impressive. On the year, Black is averaging 13.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 2.2 blocks and 1.5 steals per game. The 6-5 center has scored doublefigures in 11 of the 13 contests and was named to the Paradise Jam All-Tournament team. Black has become a go-to player and is showing her improved shooting range this season. She has totaled three double-doubles this year with 16 points and 11 rebounds against South Florida, 10 points and 11 rebounds versus Purdue and 10 points and 10 rebounds at Vanderbilt. She is also leading Duke from the charity stripe, hitting a team-best 33-of-45 attempts. Black is also the only Duke player to start all 13 games this season. Foursome At The Point... N.C. CENTRAL AT DUKE JANUARY 3, 2008 BLUE DEVIL GAME NOTES GAME 14 Player of the Year Lindsey Harding to graduation last spring. The foursome has dished out a combined 99 assists, while committing 77 turnovers on the season. Abby Waner leads the point guards with 21 treys and 24 steals, while Jasmine Thomas is tied with Abby Waner for a team-best 28 assists on the year. Emily Waner has played the fewest minutes on the team, but her 26 assists is tied for third on the Duke squad. The last time Duke had such inexperience at the point guard slot was in the 2004-05 season when Harding was suspended and freshman Wanisha Smith was thrust into the role. Duke totaled a 31-5 overall record and Smith averaged 10.9 points, 4.3 assists and 2.8 rebounds in 32.2 minutes a game. Starting Rotation... Duke broke a string of seven different starting lineups to open 2007-08 as the Blue Devils started the same lineup of Chante Black, Abby Waner, Bridgette Mitchell, Carrem Gay and Emily Waner against Vanderbilt and Penn State. The Blue Devils continued with the theme on Dec. 18 against Utah Valley with their ninth different starting lineup of Black, Waner, Wanisha Smith, Joy Cheek and Jasmine Thomas. Duke has now started the same lineup in the three straight games for the first time this year. In the different lineups, Duke has featured five players starting their first career games with the Blue Devils. In the season opener, Emily Waner made her first career start, in the USF contest Brittany Mitch and Keturah Jackson made their first starts, against UNC Greensboro Bridgette Mitchell started, versus Temple Joy Cheek made her first career start and against Rutgers freshman Jasmine Thomas started. With Duke starting two first timers versus the Bulls, it marked the first time since Nov. 12, 2004 that the Blue Devils have started two or more players for the first time in their career -- Jessica Foley, Caitlin Howe and Chante Black. All 12 players are seeing action in double-figure minutes this season and five Blue Devils are playing over 20 minutes a game. Head Coach Joanne P. McCallie has said all along it doesn t matter who starts the game as the lineup at the end of the game is the most important. She is expecting to use many different starting lineups during the season. Dishing The Rock... Typically Duke is one of the best passing teams in the nation as the Blue Devils have dished out at least 16.9 assists a game dating back to the 2000-01 campaign. Prior to the Utah Valley and Bucknell games when the Blue Devils handed out a total of 50 dishes, Duke was averaging only 14.3 assists. So far this season, Duke is averaging 16.2 assists a game. The Blue Devils have produced more assists than turnovers in five of 13 games this year. Duke has dished out the following assists over the last seven years -- 2006-07 (17.1), 2005-06 (20.5), 2004-05 (18.2), 2003-04 (20.1), 2002-03 (16.9), 2001-02 (19.4) and 2000-01 (17.0). Through 13 games, Duke has totaled more turnovers (236) than assists (210). The Blue Devils have not posted more turnovers than assists in a single season since the 2000-01 season (579 assists/611 turnovers). Free Throw Woes... Duke continues to struggle at the free throw line this season as the Blue Devils are hitting only 59.4 percent, which ranks last in the ACC. Only Chante Black (73.3), Wanisha Smith (75.0) and Abby Waner (77.8) are hitting above 70.0 percent from the charity stripe. Even though Duke has struggled at the line this year, Carrem Gay, Waner and Keturah Jackson hit key free throws at the end of the Rutgers game on Dec. 6 to earn the victory. The Blue Devils are generally very good shooting free throws as Duke has shot over 70.0 percent for nine straight years. The last time Duke shot below that mark was in 1997-98 as it hit 68.9 percent. From The Field... As with the free throw percentage, Duke continues to struggle shooting from the field and from behind the three-point arc. The Blue Devils are hitting 41.9 percent from the field and 29.0 percent from downtown through 13 contests. With the injuries to Abby Waner and Wanisha Smith, who are two of Duke s most experienced players, a lot of very inexperienced players have seen action early in the season and are trying to get adjusted to a new system. Getting Out Of The Block... Duke has struggled out of the gate in games to start the season and has had to come from behind in nine of the 13 contests -- Houston (down 11-6 at 15:15), Pittsburgh (down 10-4 at 15:46), Rutgers (down 11-2 at 15:32), Penn State (down 17-10 at 12:47), Vanderbilt (down 7-4 at 15:45), Connecticut (down 13-4 at 14:01), Temple (down 10-7 at 11:29), Purdue (down 9-0 at 13:16) and Denver (down 12-4 at 12:41). Last Time Out... Joy Cheek registered 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Chante Black and Jasmine Thomas added 12 and 11 points, respectively, to lead 13th-ranked Duke over Houston, 84-68, at Hofheinz Pavilion in Houston, Texas. Cheek, who registered her first double-double of the season and only the second of her career, scored eight points during a 16-0 Duke run that spanned both halves and turned a close game into a 49-27 lead with 19 minutes remaining. Duke never led by fewer than 13 after that. Twiggy McIntyre led Houston with 13 points. Tye Jackson had 12 points and nine assists, but also had seven of Houston's 20 turnovers. Duke outrebounded Houston 48-25 and held the Cougars to 36.2 percent shooting. The Blue Devils played for the first time since a 92-49 victory over Bucknell and had to shake off the rust early as Houston led 22-20 after two free throws by Courtney Taylor with 7:02 left in the first half, but Duke went on an 11-0 run for a 31-22 lead less than four minutes later. Wanisha Smith scored the first four points, and Jasmine Thomas added three during the spurt. Smith, who played in her third straight game since missing four with a hand injury, totaled a season-high eight assists to go along with eight points. Freshman Krystal Thomas made her return to the lineup after missing five games with in injured knee and totaled six points and four rebounds. Overall, Duke had a very balanced scoring attack with 10 of the 12 players scoring in the contest. A Look Back At the Paradise Jam... Duke won two of three games at the 2007 Paradise Jam, but did not play excellent basketball in any of the games. The Blue Devils hit only 38.5 percent from the field, 22.9 percent from three-point land and 46.9 percent from the free throw line. The Blue Devil defense held strong holding opponents to 56.0 points a game and 38.5 percent shooting. Leading the way for Duke was junior center Chante Black, who was named to the All-Tournament team. She averaged 13.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.3 blocks and 1.3 steals. Black scored double-figures in all three games, while also totaling a double-double against Purdue with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Freshman Jasmine Thomas also played well averaging 10.0 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.0 blocks. She scored a season-best 15 points versus Purdue and 11 against Temple in the first two contests. Thomas hit a career-best 2-of-4 treys against Purdue as well. Thomas Makes Splash In St. Thomas... Freshman Jasmine Thomas came through big time in her first game of the Paradise Jam. Thomas, a product of Fairfax, Va., came off the bench on Thursday

Duke Picked Third In ACC/Waner Named Preseason All-ACC... The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) office released the ACC Women s Basketball Preseason Poll on Oct. 21 with Duke tabbed third for the second straight season. A total of 37 votes, determined by a vote of the media, sports information directors and head coaches, picked the Blue Devils third behind Maryland and North Carolina. The Terrapins received 27 first place votes, while the Tar Heels had 10. Rounding out the preseason poll was No. 3 Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Virginia, N.C. State, Clemson, Virginia Tech, Miami, Boston College and Wake Forest. It marks the second straight year the Blue Devils have been selected third in the preseason poll and only the second time since 1999 that Duke has been tabbed lower than first or second. In 1999, the Blue Devils were selected fourth in the preseason poll and ended up advancing to the NCAA Final Four and National Championship game before falling to Purdue. Last season, the Blue Devils produced a 14-0 league record on their way to winning an impressive eighth ACC regular season title. Duke was picked No. 1 in the ACC preseason polls in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2005, while being listed second in 2004. The five-member preseason All-ACC squad was also released with Duke s Abby Waner, Erlana Larkins (North Carolina), Crystal Langhorne (Maryland), Khadijah Whittington (N.C. She led the squad to a 32-7 mark last season, while averaging 16.9 points, 9.2 rebounds, 3.6 steals and 2.9 assists. Jasmine Thomas was both a WBCA All-America and McDonald s All-America as she earned MVP honors at the McDonald s game. McCallie and junior Abby Waner led the U21 World Championship Team to an 8-0 record and the gold medal in Moscow, Russia. Incoming freshmen Jasmine Thomas and Krystal Thomas guided the U19 World Championship Team to a 9-0 mark and the gold medal in Bratislava, Slovakia. The Sister Act... Duke features its first set of sisters playing together for the third year in a row with Emily and Abby Waner suiting up. The natives of Highlands Ranch, Colo., will be a senior and junior, respectively, for the Blue Devils. Looking across the nation, the Waners will be one of 15 sets of sisters playing together this season in women s basketball. Gay & Cheek Have Surgeries... Immediately after the 2006-07 season came to a close, Carrem Gay and Joy Cheek hit the operating room to have shoulder surgery. Both had shoulder instability during the season, which forced them to wear a brace during practice and games. The surgery for Gay, who is from New York, N.Y., marked the second straight offseason she has had shoulder surgery as she suffered from the same injury on her left shoulder as a freshman. Cheek, a native of Charlotte, N.C., had her operation performed on her left shoulder. Both were cleared for preseason practice. 30-Win Seasons... Duke posted its NCAA-record seventh straight year with 30 or more wins in 2006-07. No other ACC school has ever posted more than three straight 30-win seasons, while the Blue Devils have won 30, 31, 35, 30, 31, 31 and 32 over the last seven years. In NCAA Division I history, only Louisiana Tech has registered six consecutive 30- win seasons. Waner Travels To Guatemala... Senior Emily Waner traveled to Guatemala over the summer with the CAPE program, which is the Collegiate Athlete Pre-Medical Experience (CAPE). Her group worked with an organization called Helps International, which worked in a hospital providing medical care,

Joanne P. McCallie Head Coach 1st Year At Duke After elevating Michigan State to one of the nation s elite programs, Joanne P. McCallie was formally introduced as the Head Women s Basketball Coach at Duke University on Friday, April 20, 2007 in Cameron Indoor Stadium. She became the fourth head coach in Blue Devil history and secured her Dream Job. McCallie made her way to Durham via Michigan State were she spent the past seven seasons as head coach, leading the Spartans to a 149-75 mark. She led Michigan State to five straight NCAA Tournament appearances, four straight 20-win seasons and an appearance in the NCAA Championship game in 2005. She molded Michigan State basketball into one of the elite programs in the nation, with an 81-23 record over the last three years. McCallie, 42, led the Spartans to a 24-9 record this past season, tied for the second-best total in school history. Michigan State advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, marking a school-record fifth straight NCAA appearance. Along the way, McCallie s squad beat two ranked conference teams on the road, at No. 13 Purdue and at No. 4 Ohio State. The Spartans beat all 10 conference teams during the league slate for the first time in program history. The team s 13-3 conference record was the second-best in program history and placed third in the Big Ten. Over the summer of 2006, McCallie guided the USA Basketball U20 team to a 5-0 record and a gold medal in the FIBA Americas Championships in Mexico City. The squad outscored its opponents by 62 points per game and set 28 U20 records in the event. McCallie also coached the FIBA U21 World Championship team in Moscow, Russia this past summer from June 29 - July 8, where she led the USA squad to an 8-0 record and won the gold medal. In 2005-06, she led the Spartans to their third straight 20-win campaign - a program first - with a 24-10 overall record. MSU finished in a tie for third in the conference standings at 11-5, McCallie s second-best league finish at MSU, and advanced to the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament for the third consecutive year. The 24 victories in 2005-06 were the second most in a single season in school history. All of this was done while playing arguably the toughest schedule in school history, as MSU matched up against 11 NCAA Tournament teams and six teams ranked in the top 10. The Spartans posted victories over No. 16 Oklahoma and No. 8 Rutgers, who went on to be No. 2 and No. 3 seeds, respectively, in the NCAA Tournament. The Spartans were ranked in the top 20 all season, peaking at No. 9. March is when it matters most, and McCallie guided MSU to its school-record fourth straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament and second straight berth in the Sweet 16 in 2005-06. The Spartans, a No. 4 seed, defeated 13th-seeded Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the first round and fifth-seeded Kentucky in the second round to earn a spot in the Bridgeport Regional. McCallie finished with a 9-5 in NCAA Tournament games at MSU, including an 8-3 record the past three years. After guiding MSU to back-to-back NCAA Tournaments and upper- division Big Ten finishes in the previous two seasons, McCallie led Michigan State to a banner year in 2004-05. Michigan State advanced to its first National Championship game, won a school-record 33 games (10 more than the previous record), won a school-record 14 Big Ten games while sharing just its second Big Ten regular-season championship, won its first Big Ten Tournament title, finished 13-0 at home, had a school-record 17-game winning streak, and beat 13 nationally-ranked teams, including four teams ranked No. 1, No. 2 or No. 3 in the nation, including third-ranked Notre Dame, top-ranked Stanford, third-ranked Tennessee, 11th-ranked Connecticut, 11th and 12th-ranked Minnesota (twice), second-ranked Ohio State, 17th-ranked Boston College, 18th-ranked Vanderbilt, 18th-ranked Iowa, 23rd-ranked Penn State and 24th-ranked Purdue. For her efforts, McCallie was named National Coach of the Year by the Associated Press, Basketball Times, and Nike, as well as being voted Big Ten Coach of the Year by the league s media. It marked the first time an MSU women s basketball coach has been named national coach of the year and the second time a Spartan head coach earned the conference s coach of the year award. McCallie was also named the 2005 Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan College Coach of the Year. The 2004-05 Spartans burst onto the national scene with non-conference victories at No. 3 Notre Dame and at No. 11 UConn and never slowed down en route to a 33-4 record. MSU moved into position for a Big Ten title with a 66-64 victory over No. 2 Ohio State in a nationally-televised game in front of a school-record crowd of 14,066. After earning the program s first No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, the Spartans marched to the Final Four, beating No. 1-ranked Stanford 76-69 in the Kansas City Regional Final. In Indianapolis at the Final Four, MSU staged an amazing second-half rally against No. 3 Tennessee, tying a Final Four record by overcoming a 16-point deficit during a 68-64 victory that propelled MSU into the title game. McCallie, who was named to the Michigan State post on March 27, 2000, became just the fourth head coach in Michigan State women s basketball history. A native of Brunswick, Maine, McCallie owns a career mark of 316-148 during her 15-year stint as a head coach at Maine and Michigan State. As a coach and player, she has led her teams to 13 conference titles, 16 NCAA Tournament appearances, five NCAA Sweet 16 appearances, four NCAA Elite Eight appearances, three NCAA Final Four appearances and three NCAA Championship game appearances. During her eight-year career at Maine, McCallie guided the Black Bears to seven straight 20-win campaigns, including a 20-11 overall record in 1999-2000 and their sixthstraight NCAA Tournament appearance. She was named coach of the year on three occasions, twice in the North Atlantic Conference (1995 and 1996) and once in the America East (1999). Prior to becoming head coach at Maine in 1992-93, McCallie was an assistant coach at Auburn from 1988-92. As the team s primary recruiter, she helped sign the fourthranked class in the nation in 1990-91 and the 16th-ranked class in the nation in 1991-92. While at Auburn, McCallie and the Tigers appeared in two national championship games and made an appearance in the NCAA Elite Eight. The former Joanne Palombo, prior to getting married to John McCallie, played her collegiate basketball at Northwestern from 1984-87. She still ranks seventh in Wildcat history with 378 career assists. As a senior, she was an All-Big Ten honorable mention selection and helped lead the Wildcats to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. McCallie also was named Academic All-Big Ten First-Team as a senior. McCallie graduated from Northwestern in 1987 with a degree in political science and earned a master s degree in business administration from Auburn in 1990. The McCallie family includes husband John, daughter Madeline (Maddie - 13) and son John Wyatt (Jack - 7). The family resides in Durham, N.C.

Mashea Williams added 22 points and went 8-for-8 from the foul line for Penn State. Karima Christmas nearly got the Blue Devils back on top in the game s waning seconds. Two free throws by O Rourke gave Penn State an 84-80 lead with 22 seconds left. Christmas responded with a quick layup. She scored again and was fouled by Tyra Grant after a backcourt steal off Grant by Black. The Blue Devils won their 19 th straight home game and held the Scarlet Knights to 27.6 field goal percentage. Duke was led by Chante Black and Carrem Gay with 11 points each. Black blocked a career-high six shots, had two steals, two assists and seven rebounds in 35 minutes played. Gay s free throw with 30 seconds left put Duke ahead to stay. Abby Waner and Keturah Jackson also both made two late foul shots for the Blue Devils. After Essence Carson of Rutgers tied it at 44 with 1:04 remaining, the Blue Devils hustled downcourt and ran down the shot clock. Jasmine Thomas forced up a long three-pointer that missed, but Gay was there to collect the rebound and was fouled by Matee Ajavon. She hit the first of two free throws to put Duke up by one. Ajavon s running shot in the lane was tipped by Black. Ajavon then committed her fifth foul and Stringer was charged with a technical foul. Waner and Jackson iced it by each converting two attempts from the line in the final 11 seconds. Epiphanny Prince had 15 points and Kia Vaughn added 11 rebounds for Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights took a four-point lead with 4:19 remaining after a bizarre free-throw attempt that silenced the crowd. Duke apparently thought Vaughn was shooting two free throws when she missed the front end of a 1-and-1 leaving Heather Zurich to scoop up the rebound and make an uncontested layup. Rutgers managed just two points the rest of the way. Rutgers led 19-17 at the break despite a miserable shooting performance by both clubs. Game 10-- #17/15 Duke 51 Pittsburgh 49 Duke sophomore Joy Cheek scored the gamewinning basket with 1.2 seconds remaining to give the Blue Devils a 51-49 victory over Pittsburgh in the first game of the Maggie Dixon Classic in Madison Square Garden. Cheek scored 13 of her season-high 16 points in the second half, while Abby Waner added 10 points for the Blue Devils. With 12.7 seconds left and the game tied at 49, Duke drove the length of the court and Chante Black missed a turnaround. Cheek got the rebound and put it in for the game-winner. Shavonte Zellous and Jania Sims both scored 17 points for Pitt. The Panthers held a 24-18 lead with 6:20 left in the first half before going scoreless over the next nine minutes. Marcedes Walker finally ended the drought with a putback with 17:08 left in the second half. The Blue Devils had dropped three straight games for the first time in a decade before beating Rutgers 49-44 on Thursday night. With Duke trailing 31-28, Cheek scored all seven points during a 7-2 run that gave the Blue Devils a 35-33 lead. The teams traded baskets before Duke used an 8-3 spurt capped by Emily Waner s three-pointer as the shot clock expired to take a 47-40 lead with just over six minutes left. Pitt responded with a 9-2 run to tie the game on Sims layup with 1:13 left. With the game tied at 49, Sims stole the ball from Jasmine Thomas, but Zellous missed a jumper from the wing that would have given the Panthers the lead. Trailing 24-18 with 6:20 left in the first half, Duke closed with a 6-0 run to tie the game. 2007-08 Duke Women s Basketball * Box Scores Game 11-- #14/15 Duke 95 Utah Valley 61 Abby Waner scored 19 points and tied an ACC record with 10 steals as 14th-ranked Duke defeated Utah Valley, 95-61, at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Reserve Carrem Gay scored a season-high 20 points, Joy Cheek scored 13 of her 15 points during the decisive first half and Chante Black also had 15 points for Duke. The Blue Devils forced 39 turnovers, scored 49 points off those miscues and never trailed in cruising to their third straight victory. Waner led the way during Duke's 22-4 run that opened the second half, scoring nine points and capping it with a three-pointer from the deep left wing that made it 66-32 with about 13 minutes remaining. Waner, who finished three assists shy of the third triple-double in school history, became the 11th player in ACC history with 10 steals, a feat most recently achieved by Miami's Maurita Reed against Wake Forest in February 2007. She surpassed the school mark of nine steals that was reached by two players, most recently Missy Anderson against Drake in 1992. The Blue Devils got well at undermanned Utah Valley's expense, setting a season-high in scoring, leading by 37 points and meeting little resistance in their 25th straight nonconference victory at home. Robyn Fairbanks scored 17 points on 8-of-23 shooting, and set an arena record with 20 rebounds to lead Utah Valley. The Wolverines, who didn't start a player taller than 6-foot-1, are in the fifth year of their sixyear transition from junior college to Division I. Wanisha Smith returned to the starting lineup for Duke and scored three points after missing four games with a broken bone in her right (shooting) hand. Game 12-- #17/15 Duke 92 Bucknell 49 After averaging barely more than 66 points in its first 10 games, No. 14 Duke broke 90 for the second straight time, defeating Bucknell, 92-49, at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Duke scored 40 points off 32 Bucknell turnovers, 20 of them steals. All five Duke starters broke double digits with Chante Black and Joy Cheek each getting 19 points and eight rebounds. Cheek's numbers were her career high in points and a season high for boards. Abby Waner added 16 points for Duke, while Jasmine Thomas had 12 points and Wanisha Smith chipped in 11 points. None of Duke's starters played more than 27 minutes. Kesha Champion led Bucknell with 21 points. She hit 7-for-11 from the field, including 3-for-4 shooting on 3-pointers. Duke held Bucknell's Hope Foster to two points. The preseason player of the year in the Patriot League, Foster hit 1-of-5 from the field. Out-rebounded 33-7 on the offensive boards, Bucknell gave up 27 second-chance points to Duke. Duke led 53-31 by halftime, the best first half of scoring for the Blue Devils so far on the season. Waner hit three three-pointers and had 13 points in the first half. Black had 11 at the half. The Bison managed a single three-point basket by Champion in the first 16:26 of the second half, while Duke used a 10-3 run to stretch its lead to 63-34. Bucknell missed its last six shots and failed to score in the game's final 6:09. Duke ended the game with an 11-0 run. Game 13-- #13/14 Duke 84 Houston 68 Joy Cheek registered 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Chante Black and Jasmine Thomas added 12 and 11 points, respectively, to lead 13th-ranked Duke over Houston, 84-68, at Hofheinz Pavilion in Houston, Texas. 2007-08 Duke Women s Basketball * Box Scores Duke 84, Houston 68 December 28, 2007 Houston, TX (Hofheinz Pavilion) Duke FG 3FG FT Reb Cheek 21 6-10 0-0 2-3 5-10 1 1 1 14 Black 1 8 4-9 0-0 4-5 1-7 1 0 2 1 2 A.
