Nobles and Ladies, Potentate s Message It is that time of year again! Spring is here and the weather is warming up. Time to get out of the house and come spend some time with your Jamil family! I would like to thank everyone that contributed in any way to the 2017 Circus. The Divan is truly humbled by the amount of people that came out and supported our biggest fundraiser. It takes a lot of people to make something as big as the circus happen and we can only succeed together. Speaking of coming together, what a spectacular time we had during the St. Patrick s Day Parade and Celebration. A huge thank you to all of the Units, Clubs, and individuals that made that day truly special. We all came together as a Jamil family and had an outstanding time with delicious food and great people. March gave us a couple opportunities to be a part of events directly for the Greenville Shriners Hospital for Children. First, several nobles and ladies attended Hospital Days at the Greenville Hospital. We enjoyed an informative program and an expansive tour of the hospital. Hejaz Temple also provided some outstanding hospitality while we were there. Additionally, the Cars 2 Dreams Car Show in Elgin was an opportunity to come together and raise some money for the Greenville Hospital. Everyone that attended was treated to a fun parade, music from Jamil DJs, spectacular vehicles, and great food. Jamil s Golf Tournament at Timberlake Golf Course in Chapin was a huge success and it started off a busy weekend for Jamil. The golfers had a first class experience and that is due in large part to everyone from Jamil who helped make it happen. On the same weekend Jamil had the honor of hosting the Spring SASA Festival in Columbia. We also had the opportunity to roll out the red carpet to nobles and ladies around the country on the final evening at Jamil. I want to thank SASA President Illustrious Sir Steve Tucker, the Chef s Unit, and all the individuals that allowed everyone to see what an amazing place Jamil is. Not only are we special because of our building s physical structure but most importantly the people that are the backbone of our temple. We can look forward to a couple of huge events coming up in May. First, the Potentate s Ball will be happening on May 6 th. For the first time in several years this event will return to Jamil Temple and you do not want to miss out on the fun and fellowship. Tiffany and I would like to personally invite everyone to be a part of this event. We will have hospitality from 2-4pm in the Potentate s Room with Jamil s Auditorium opening at 6pm for the Potentate s Ball. Please contact the Jamil office to get your tickets today! We will also be having Jamil s Spring Ceremonial in May. Let s round up all of those new candidates and come out and show them a good time. There will be some great food and fun with the candidates on Friday, May 12 th in Jamil s Auditorium. Then, Saturday, May 13 th Jamil will be participating in the South Carolina Poultry Festival Parade in Batesburg-Leesville. Also, as a special treat Batesburg-Leesville Lodge will be hosting the Noble lunch and the First Session of the ceremonial. We will then be returning to the Director s Staff building at Jamil for the Second Session. The ladies will also enjoy a first class experience at their luncheon in the Potentate s Room. Please be sure to come out and be a part of the ceremonial. It is important we show support for those new candidates and their ladies from the beginning so they can see how great Jamil is and they keep returning. In closing, never forget that we all serve as ambassadors and mentors at Jamil. If you ever see someone sitting by themselves or know someone that hasn t shown up to Jamil lately reach out to them and invite them to be a part of all our festivities. Whether it is a new noble or lady or someone that has been a part of Jamil for a long time, we always need to continue to look out for our Jamil family and make sure everyone feels welcome. Yours In The Faith, Curtis Hutchinson 3

Nobles and Ladies, Thank you to our Jamil family for making the SASA Spring Festival in Columbia such a huge success. Without dedicated people like all of you it could not have happened. The SASA hospitality room was wonderful. The decorations for the ladies luncheon, and Saturday night dinner in the Potentates Room, were beautiful. The ones who worked behind the scenes to clean and polish our temple and grounds also made us proud. The new flags and touch up painting looked great! Thank you all so much. To Illustrious Sir Curtis and the rest of the DIVAN a special thank you for your support. The visitors we had from all over the southeast complimented your work and our temple highly. They especially mentioned the Fez case, lounge and auditorium. Many of them took several pictures of our facility to share with their members at home. Thank you all again for all your hard work and commitment to Jamil Temple and SASA. Fall SASA will again be in Myrtle Beach September 15 th and 16 th. Jamil will be honored as the first temple in the parade on Saturday morning. The weather should be cool at 9:00 am and we will finish early. I hope as many Jamil units as possible will turn out for the parade, and put on a great show for our temple at the SASA Myrtle Beach Festival. Yours in Faith, Steve Tucker, P.P. From the Assistant Rabban Greetings Noble s and Ladies, The year has been off to a fast start and the first quarter is coming to a close. We have had many events to keep us all busy and having fun for a great cause. I would like to thank everyone that has been a part of making them all successful. As the summer is approaching we have a full calendar to keep the fun going. I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the upcoming events and having great times. Remember it s never too early to start thinking about BBQ!!! From the High Priest and Prophet Spring greetings my fellow Nobles! Spring has sprung with this yellow coating that constantly covers our vehicles and all outdoor items. It has been a quick (which means a busy) first quarter! We had an awesome circus and a GREAT BIG shout out needs to go out to all the volunteers that helped before, during and after the circus. It is a large job to put on the largest temple fundraiser of the year and trust me, all of the help is welcome and appreciated. My Lady Laurie and I were a year late, but we had the opportunity to join our current Oriental Guide Dennie Holcomb and his Lady Bobby Jo in Tampa for Oriental Guide school. It was a busy schedule, but it was very informative and a great time. And, just in case anyone is curious, there was 23 High Priest and Prophets in attendance! I was kind of surprised. Jamil Temple participated in the St. Patrick s Day Parade in Five Points, after which a big St. Patrick s Day celebration was held at Jamil Temple. The celebration was well attended and was a great time with lots of good food and fellowship. Thank you to all the units and individuals that worked to make the day a success. We have just finished up the 2017 Jamil Golf Tournament. It was a great turn out, well sponsored, and the weather was pretty much cooperative for the entire event. A big thank you to all the volunteers that helped with the event, the participants, the hole sponsors and a shout out to Noble Joe Houser for being so instrumental in acquiring hole sponsorships. The SASA Spring Festival has just concluded. What a time it was! We were the shining star of SASA, being able to show off Jamil Shrine Center to the SASA Member Temples, candidates for Imperial Outer Guard, Imperial Sir Richard Burke & Lady Judy, and last but not least Imperial Sir Jim Cain. Congratulations to Illustrious Sir Steve Tucker PP and his Lady Linda for a job well done. We have the Potentate s Ball right around the corner to honor Illustrious Sir Curtis Hutchinson and his Lady Tiffany, so mark your calendars! We also have the Spring Ceremonial coming up in May. Get those candidates ready! Well, I guess that is about all for now! May God, bless you the way he has my family and me. Yours in the faith, Ken Peterson Imperial Session in Daytona Beach, Florida July 9-13, 2017 7

Looking forward to the Potentates Ball, followed by a ceremonial that is always fun bringing in new families. Family Fun Day, Ladies Night Out in June. In closing, I would like to thank all the Noble s and Ladies during my travels to see you. I really enjoy the fellowship and fun we have working to have a great team. Most importantly providing a future for the Shrine Hospitals, Kids and Families. Yes, when we help a child, it not only helps the child but the family too. You do so much more than you think. Take time to reflect and thank yourself, Nobel s and Ladies. YOU ARE AWESOME!!! Yours in Faith, Dennie Holcomb THE HAPPENINGS IN THE JAMIL LOUNGE by the Lounge Lounger Well the 2017 year has been a busy one so far at the Lounge! We have had several units participating and graciously bringing food on Friday nights. Everyone always turns out when we have food. Our DJ Barney Mims has been doing a great job with music for us too. We had a special night, Mardi Gras Night and I must say it was a fantastic night. The bar was full with people dressed up in costumes, and beads. We also had Hurricanes and lots of people really enjoyed them. It was great to see the dance floor full with people dancing. That has been a rare sight on Fridays and it was awesome to see. DJ Jazzy Jim provided our music and as usual he didn t let us down! Next was Circus weekend and it was a full weekend in the lounge, from Thursday to Sunday. Saturdays, we have started a few new things, Movie Night and Karaoke to name a few. Oh yes, and let s not forget the shagging on Wednesday nights. Our DJ s play great music to shag to and we always have a great crowd. We are looking forward to trying some new things for Fridays and Saturdays, so listen out for the scuttle because we love seeing you all. From 60 s night, 90 s Night, Adult Easter Egg Hunts, Potentates Ball and the Ceremonial, you can bet we will be busy in the coming months and we are looking forward to seeing you soon. Many players and coaches from both sides had to be replaced, some as late as early Sunday morning. But the Game continued. A Big Thanks to Whitey Harsey, Bobby Kneece, Matt and Melissa Lam for working in the cold taking tickets and selling programs. Dear Nobles and Ladies, From the Treasurer Spring is finally here! Thank you again for the privilege of representing Jamil as your Treasurer. This first 3 months certainly has flown by. I am still learning and welcome any questions or comments you may have. The Circus, Cars 2 Dreams Car Show, St. Patrick s Day Parade and Party, Jamil Golf Tournament and Mid Winter SASA have all come and gone. All were a great success. Congratulations and thank you to all of you that were able to participate. Our Potentate Curtis and his wife Tiffany, The Divan, Office staff and all you other volunteers have done an excellent job. From the Membership Chairman Dear Nobles, Our spring Ceremonial is fast approaching and we are still looking for some more candidates to join us. We will be voting on membership petitions on April 25th, so go ahead and get those petitions in. Like I ve said before recruitment is only a part of membership, we must also look at retention and restorations. Retention starts with getting our new Nobles active and mentoring them and their ladies. If a newly made Shriner is involved with a club or unit they are more likely to stay involved and not become an NPD or just a card toting member. When it comes to restorations, if you know a brother who once was a noble and stopped being active and stopped being dues, encourage them to come back. If they call the temple office and talk to our Recorder Dwight Harsey I feel sure there s some kind of arrangement that can be made to bring them back in. As always feel free to contact me @ 803-553-5343 or mikeray121211@yahoo.com Fraternally, Mike Ray Mason Night at Jamil Temple August 12th Bring your brothers and their families out for a night of fun and fellowship while learning about the Shrine. 12
