SPF NEWSLETTER From the President s Vise Hello Everyone, Thank you to Bob Berry and his wife Kim for driving over from El Cajon, CA last month for our meeting. I think everyone really enjoyed listening to Bob talk about his carving and painting techniques. And, I know we all really enjoyed seeing his world championship carvings! Bob ran a fish painting class over the weekend and we had 7 members attend the class. I think we all learned a lot and the fish actually looked like fish when we were done! You can see them on page 2. Thanks again for a wonderful time learning about carving and painting. I would like to thank Ellen and Jim Ackerman for doing all the work on finding places for our banquet next March. I asked for volunteers and they stepped up and did a great job of finding some locations that would fit our club. It really makes being President of the club easier when members step up and take on a more active role. I talked to Jason Kline, Fisheries Program Specialist for Region V the other day and invited him to speak to the club in November. He told me they are waiting to finalize the plans to get the Frye Creek Drainage over by Safford ready for the reintroduction of the Gila Trout. He thought they might be ready by October and asked if we as a club might be interested in helping with the project. We talked about it at the board meeting and decided it would be a great project for the club San Pedro Flycasters Sierra Vista, AZ. to be involved in. Jason will keep us informed and let us know when we can help with the project. I hope everyone will have a chance soon to get out and wet a line, and please come to our meeting on June 3rd. See you there. OUTINGS REPORT The next outing will be to the White Mountains area around the weekend of June 19th and 20th. We are looking at fishing several of the lakes and streams in the area, including some reservation lakes. We have a number of people interested at this time, if you would like to participate, please let me know as soon as possible and I will get you some details on the trip. At the may board meeting we discussed some long-range outings. We are looking at a trip to the Flaggstaff area next spring. You may remember that we had a very successful trip there a few years ago. Water conditions look good for this year, meaning that we should be able to fish for some carry-over trout and pike next year. There are also some catch-and-release ponds in the Williams area that may be worth a try. Another potential trip for next year is a return to East Cape, Baja. We will be looking into renting a large house on the beach to fish for roosterfish and jacks from the shore. There are also other possibilities, like fishing for marlin and dorado from a charter boat. In the past, we have even arranged for the boat to pick us up at the house. More information to come as we start to sort this trip out. Also, keep in mind the several trips being offered by Eric and Whitey at Dry Creek Outfitters. Whitey has an excellent trip going to Montana and Alberta, Canada in mid-august. If you are interested, please give me a call. As always, if you have any suggestions or ideas for future trips, please contact Dan Tuttle at 459-5186 or daniel.tuttle@cox.net. Meeting Site Thunder Mountain Community Church At 4029 E.
