RICHMOND April 2004 VIRGINIA April Meeting The April meeting will be held at the Dept. of Game and Inland Fisheries Building, 4010 West Broad Street at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday April 27th. The entrance and parking are at the rear of the building. Backlash (Commentary from the Leadership Team) Programs for the April and May Membership Meetings Programs Chairman Lynn Spurlin has gotten up a couple of great programs for the coming two months membership meetings. The April Membership meeting will feature a three station HowTo Extravaganza featuring club members sharing their knowledge of specific types of fishing. Buddy and Danny Noland, the clubs aces of spades, will hold forth at Spade Fish City and resent their approach to catching spadefish. Mike Cline will rig up his famous offshore baits and explain how to double your catch of tuna, wahoo and other denizens of the Gulf Stream. Finally, for those favoring the surf zone, Lynn Spurlin will present a primer on surf fishing. He will rig many examples of surf baits and where best to cast them. This meeting is totally interactive, so bring those questions you have about these three diverse angling activities. At the May Meeting, Harry Robertson from Fly Fish The World, will present a program about fishing for peacock bass in Brazil. Dues are Due There are still about 17 Members who have not paid their 2004 Membership dues as of April 13, 2004. Please check to be sure your membership is current. Dues not paid by March 1st of the angling year are identified by the by laws as being in arrears. Annual dues are $50.00 for members living in the Commonwealth of Virginia and $35.00 for those living elsewhere. Wanted Special Activities Chairman There is a vacancy in the chairman ship for the Special Activities Committee. This chairman looks after special fund raising raffles and sales conducted by the Virginia Anglers Club. The pick-up, distribution and accounting of income from those selling calendars are the main activity of this chairman. This chairman runs the special raffles we have from time to time of donated fishing rods, fishing trips, etc. The chairman is a full member of the Club s leadership team. If you would like further information or would like to step forward to be the SAC chairman, please get up with President Fred Murray [Phone: 358-7166-X-320 (O), 320-4295 (H)]. This is a great opportunity for a newer club member to become active in the club. Dues Relief Members Deployed for Military Duty The Board of Directors has approved dues relief (none required) for club members who are deployed abroad as part of or in support of military activities of the United States (2 weeks summer camp excluded). Member Mark Horner has been on deployment to Iraq and he is the first member to be benefited by this relief of dues. If you know how the newsletter can be delivered to your foreign duty station (e-mail or hard copy) please let Newsletter Editor Scott Davis know). Please let President Fred Murray or any other club officer of pending or active deployments. Electronic Delivery of the Monthly Newsletter Delivery of the monthly club newsletter, The Angler, by e-mail is a way to get the newsletter as soon as it is ready for publication. Also, the club stands to save a significant amount of postage if you request e-mail delivery. If at all possible, please convert from hard copy delivery to electronic delivery. To convert, just let Scott Davis know and it is a done deal. Reporting for the Leadership Team, John Wetlaufer, Sr.
