Prior to the start of the TOUR Championship, a points reset took place, giving all players in the field a mathematical opportunity to win the FedExCup title. A solo-second finish Sunday would offer Finau a chance at winning the FedExCup, making him the first player to win the season-long title without a victory. Entering the week at No. 4 in the FedExCup standings, Dustin Johnson birdied four of his last six holes to shoot a 3-under 67 and move into a tie for ninth. Bryson DeChambeau, who won the first two Playoffs events and entered the TOUR Championship in the No. 1 position, sits T21 after rebounding in round three with a 4-under 66, including eagles on hole Nos. 6 and 17. Defending FedExCup champion Justin Thomas (T9) carded an even-par 70 and is currently projected to finish No. 6 in the final standings. There are four past FedExCup champions (Tiger Woods, Billy Horschel, Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas) at East Lake this year. Thomas, McIlroy and Horschel can join Tiger Woods (2007, 2009) as the only two-time winners of the FedExCup.
