Baldwin Street Middle How will you SHINE? e-banner Newsletter 30 November 2018 From the Principals The Baldwin Middle School Robotics team Rubber Bandits took first seating in the Vex Robotics Tournament while playing against a mixed group of high school and middle school teams from west Michigan at the Grandville Halloween Tournament November 10. The team also won the Excellence Award, the highest award available at the tournament. This award qualifies the team to compete in the State Tournament (March 2), and it presents them with an invitation to compete in a California Tournament on Google s campus in Silicon Valley. Members of the Rubber Bandits are Carson Berens, Ezekiel Sadler, Bryce Boomstra and Ryan Scholten. Thursday evening, the winner of the Robotics Middle School Mega League Championship was awarded to the Spirit Robot team, which consists of Calvin Ball, Austin Klotz, Mason Timmer, and Landon Trombley. This accomplishment will qualify them for the state tournament in February. Congratulations to these teams!

Monday, December 24 - Friday, January 4 Monday, January 7 Holiday Break School Resumes Ski & Snowboard Club ~ HPS Students, siblings and parents interested in purchasing Discount Ski Club Cards to Bittersweet Ski Resort in Otsego, should sign up now with the new Eagle Ski & Board Club online system. You will be able to purchase club cards ($17), bus passes ($20), along with club apparel. Cards allow discounted rates on lift tickets and rentals. https://2018skiboardclub.itemorder.com Middle School students will also be able to purchase a bus pass ($20) allowing for bus rides to bittersweet. The Middle School Club dates are: Monday, January 7 Monday, January 14 Monday, January 21 Monday, February 11 Monday, February 18 Deadline for registration: Friday, December 14 - Cards delivered before Christmas Vacation Thursday, January 3 - Cards delivered Monday, January 7. Winter 2 Athletics - Sign-ups will be available beginning December 10 for Girls Basketball, Boys Wrestling and Boys Swim & Dive. Tryouts and practices will begin some time the week of January 14th - all athletes must have a sports physical and athletic code on file before the first day of practice/tryout.

Choir Chat Our Winter Concert is quickly approaching. The choirs will be performing seasonal and holiday songs on Monday, December 10 at 8:00 p.m. The concert is once again located at the Hudsonville Fine Arts Auditorium at the Hudsonville High School Freshman Campus. Students are required to wear their formal black and white uniforms. Warmups and attendance will begin promptly in the orchestra room at 7:20 p.m. We will need chaperones for this concert, please contact Mrs. Scott if you are available to help, Our 8th grade choir will be performing at local retirement communities on Friday, December 21. We will be visiting Allen Springs, American House and Waterford Place as well as stopping for lunch. Students will leave school at the beginning of 2nd hour and will return at approximately 12:45 p.m. We would appreciate having a few parent volunteers accompany us on the trip. Please contact Mrs. Scott if you are available to chaperone. Other Choir Reminders: Please remember to turn in all fundraising money by Wednesday, December 5. Prizes will be distributed to individual students after the money is collected. Choir apparel orders will be coming within the next two weeks. A communication will be sent when the items arrive. Band Blast JAZZ BAND WILL be rehearsing next Monday, 12-3. This will be out last rehearsal before our concerts next week. A schedule was sent out to all families concerning dinner on the 6th. Please have your student return their slip if they would like dinner no later than Monday! The Hudsonville Band Boosters are continuing our annual KeyCard Sale. Books are $25 and students that sell 6 or more books will receive a free book at the end of the sale and a $15 Meijer Gift Card for over 10 books sold. The Sale will end December 19th, so get one soon! Finally, our HOLIDAY CONCERT is here!
