Year 2 of an Unprecedented Draft Haul! The Association s top drafts only come along every so often. In the modern history of the league, the top drafts have come in 1984, 1992, 1996, 2003 and 2017 with 2011 also being the classic that nobody saw coming at the time. So in terms of the law of averages, 2018 should feature a quite pedestrian haul but this very clearly is not the case. Instead, we are in for a big treat for the second year in a row. Center DeAndre Ayton of Arizona has emerged as the frontrunner for the top pick and he is joined near the top of the heap by another dominator in the pivot, Mohamed Bamba of Texas. Michigan State s Jaren Jackson, who also profiles as a power forward, rounds out the trifecta in the pivot, while stretch four monster Marvin Bagley of Duke is a strong contender for the second overall pick. His primary competition comes from swingman Luka Doncic of Slovenia, the most advanced Euro to come into the league in many years. Small forward Michael Porter of Missouri comes with some health concerns, but he d otherwise be a contender for the top overall pick such is his skill level. In an era of historically great point guard play, two special talents will be coming into the league next fall: sweet-shooting Trae Young of Oklahoma and aggressive playmaker Collin Sexton. These eight players, as well as a next level of talent that should contain many valuable rotation contributors, will ensure that this draft class is long remembered for its diversity of great skills. Preview Of FantasyDrafthelp.com Ultimate Fantasy Hoops Stat For 2018-19 Season This is the FantasyDrafthelp.com statistic, the Ultimate Quantitative Baseline, based on the statistical principle of standard deviation from the mean. We utilize the standard fantasy categories: PPG, RPG, APG, ST, BL, TO, FG%, FT% and 3%. In each category, a spectrum is calculated from the best performance to the worst on a per-game basis. The numbers in each category are added together to create our statistic. An additional equalizer is injected to apply more points to each player at the positions of scarcer depth. What this stat truly does is to quantify beyond doubt how the stronger and weaker performances in each category add up to the absolute fantasy value for each player. As such, it establishes a baseline for performance that is more comprehensive than anything ever developed. A number over 1000 is considered elite. Designing a Dream NBA Tournament By Rick Morris/The FDH Lounge Those wishing to shorten the NBA s regular season to a more-humane 70 games have a burden of proof vis-à-vis demonstrating how such a move could be executed without anyone involved losing income which seems almost impossible. But, characteristically, The FDH Lounge has an idea just wild enough to be successful. It s a 53-game, one-month tournament just after the end of a 70-game season, targeted to begin Memorial Day weekend, involving six All-Star teams, one representing each division in the league. Each team would play all of the others twice, a home-and-away matchup, with games spread all over the league. After the 10-game slate is concluded, the top four teams will square off in semifinals, then a championship, with margin of victory settling all seeding tiebreakers. Key to this collectively-bargained deal would be the mandate that all healthy players participate, since, again, they re keeping their full salaries notwithstanding a shorter NBA season. That s not to say that there won t be injury exemptions, which are included in our projection of what each roster would look like and how we would rate their chances for success.
