Jacob H. Klugh's Civil War Diary Jacob Klugh in his Civil War Jacket Jacob H. Klugh's Civil War Diary Page 1

Transcribed July 2018 by Alice Kalush My great grandmother, Barbara Klugh Musser Shindle, was Jacob's youngest sister. Jacob Klugh was part of the unit which guarded Jefferson Davis at Fort Monroe in Virginia after the Civil War ended. Jefferson Davis spent two years at Fort Monroe after his capture in May 1865. I've tried to maintain the spelling and have ended each line in the same place that Jacob Klugh did. These entries are one big run on sentence without punctuation or capitals at the beginning of a new thought. I left the text as it was. You will also notice that the entries aren't in date order. I've listed them below in the order they appear in the book. There are also some entries about purchases, addresses and numerical calculations or financial records throughout the book. The book is 3 1/2 inches wide by 5 1/2 inches wide and has a leather cover. The pages are held into it with a very thin knotted cord. I have transcribed rather than scanned or photographed the pages so as not to damage them or their binding. The book when opened does not lie flat. Jacob H. Klugh's Civil War Diary Page 2
