UB is looking to sweep the season series from the Chippewas as UB took the first meeting on January 1, 101-91. With a victory, UB is also looking for its sixth win over a MAC West opponent, something they haven t done since the 201-14 season. The Bulls shot 72.7% from the floor in the opening half on Saturday at Bowling Green. It was the first time that the Bulls had shot over 70% in a half since January 25, 2011 when the Bulls shot 71.4% in the second half of a 79-68 victory at Western Michigan. The Bulls shot 6.5% overall from the field, its highest single-game total since February 19, 2014 against Akron when they shot 6.%. The Bulls are currently on a four-game winning streak where they have won their games by an average of 17.8 points per game during the streak. This is the first time that UB has won four straight games, all by double figures, since the 200-04 season when UB won five straight by double figures from Feb. 18 through March, 2004. In all, the Bulls won eight in a row during that stretch, but two were by less than 10 points. @UBMENSHOOPS PROBABLE STARTERS (BASED ON PREVIOUS GAME) 2 22 5 0 4 Willie Conner W Sr. 6-5 200 Chicago, IL Dontay Caruthers G R-So. 6-1 195 Rochester, NY CJ Massinburg G So. 6-190 Dallas, TX Blake Hamilton W Sr. 6-6 205 Pasadena, CA David Kadiri F Sr. 6-8 210 Laurel, MD Pts. The Chippewas had won two in a row since the last meeting with the Bulls prior to Saturday. The Chippewas are 10-1 at home this season with their only home loss coming against MAC-leading Akron. The Chippewas are led by the nations leading scorer Marcus Keene, who is averaging 29.9 points per game and he also leads Central Michigan with 129 assists. The Bulls held Keene to 24 points in the first meeting on 7-of-21 shooting, but made the junior turn it over seven times. Braylon Rayson is second on the team in scoring at 20.4 points per game. He led Central Michigan in scoring with 25 points in the first meeting with the Bulls. No other CMU player is currently in double figures. As a team, Central Michigan is currently the third highest scoring team in the nation at 89.4 points per game. They live by the three ball as the Chippewas are second nationally in three-pointers made per game and third in three-pointers attempted. Keene is third nationally in three-pointers made and attempted. He is first in scoring, total field goals made and total field goals attempted. I Love The 90 s With their 96-69 win over Ball State on Feb., the Bulls scored 90 or more points in three straight games, following 101 points against Central Michigan and 90 points against Akron. This is just the fourth time in school history that the Bulls have scored at least 90 points in three straight games and the first time since 1994-95. UB also accomplished it during the 1969-70 season and the 1989-90 season. Bulls Hit The Century Mark The Bulls recorded 101 points on Tuesday night in their victory over Central Michigan, their highest scoring output ever against a Mid-American Conference team in regulation. The Bulls scored 107 points in a double overtime loss to Kent State in 2006 and between 2006-17 the Bulls twice put up over 100 points against non Division I opponents. The last time that UB put up 100 points in a regulation game against a D-I opponent was Nov. 21, 2001 when they scored 100 points at Chicago State. Since turning Division I in 1991-92, Tuesday night was the fourth time that the Bulls have scored at least 100 points against a fellow D-I opponent in regulation. Seeing Double Sophomore CJ Massinburg became the third different UB player to record a double-double on the season Saturday when he had a season-high 18 points and a career-best 10 rebounds in the win over Eastern Michigan. It was the first career double-double for the Dallas, TX native. Massinburg joins Blake Hamilton who had 19 points and 11 rebounds against Canisius and sophomore Nick Perkins, who has recorded a pair of double-doubles, including 18 points and 10 rebounds against Weber State and 10 points and 11 rebounds against Robert Morris. Last season, UB had three players all year record double-doubles, led by five from Hamilton. Against Ohio, Massinburg recorded his second straight double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Hamilton also had a double-double with 17 points and 1 rebounds. It is the first time this year that UB has had two players with a double-double in the same match and also the first time this season that a Buffalo player recorded a double-double in consecutive games. Senior David Kadiri joined the double-double party against Ball State as he recorded career highs of 2 points and 11 rebounds. Hamilton and Perkins each picked up their third double-double of the season against Western Michigan as Perkins had 21 points and 10 boards of the bench and Hamilton, who just missed out on the second triple-double in school history, had 15 points, 10 assists, and nine rebounds. In his first home game since the near triple-double, Hamilton repeated the feat, falling just shy again with 27 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists. Perkins had a double-double off the bench against Northern Illinois with 11 points and a season-high 12 rebounds. Senior Willie Conner had his first career double-double against Bowling Green with 12 points and a career-high 12 rebounds The five different players with double-doubles are the most in a season since 2014-15 when Justin Moss, Xavier Ford, Shannon Evans, Rodell Wigginton, and Lamonte Bearden all recorded double-doubles thats year. We re Going Streaking Following their win over Northern Illinois, the Bulls currently hold two of the seven longest winning streaks in the MAC. The win over NIU was UB s 12 straight, while the Bulls have also beaten Kent State seven times straight dating back to the 201-14 season. Right now, UB has two of the eight longest winning streaks against one conference school in the MAC: 17 Akron vs. Bowling Green 14 Kent State vs. Ball State 14 Akron vs. Ball State 12 Buffalo vs. Northern Illinois 8 Toledo vs. Miami (OH) 8 Ohio vs. Ball State 7 Buffalo vs. Kent State Keno Davis was named head coach at Central Michigan on April, 2012. Davis brought four years of Division I head coaching experience, and in 2008 was named the coach of the year by six national organizations. In one season at Drake and three at Providence, Davis compiled a 74-55 (.574) record and made two postseason appearances. Back-to-Back MAC Champions NCAA Tournament (2015,2016)

Buffalo has already become the first team since Kent State to go in back-to-back seasons when the Golden Flashes did it in 2001 and 2002, but a third straight trip would make conference history. No Big 4 school has gone to three straight NCAA Tournament since Canisius in 1955-57. Buffalo is one of only five programs to have won conference titles in both 2014-15 and 2015-16 joining Hampton (MEAC), Northern Iowa (Missouri Valley), Kentucky (SEC), and Gonzaga (WCC). Of that group, Gonzaga is the only one to have received three straight automatic bids into the NCAA Tournament. Easy Blake Oven Senior Blake Hamilton begins his final season after being one of five players named to the All-MAC East Division squad in the preseason. Hamilton was named to the All-MAC Third Team last season and enters 2016-17 as the Bulls returning leading scorer and rebounder at 1.7 points per game and 7.1 rebounds per contest. Hamilton had a stellar first season with UB in 2015-16, but it will be his shot at the end of the MAC Championship game that will always be remembered by Bulls fans. Hamilton missed most of the preseason due to a broken non-shooting hand, but he returned to the starting lineup for the regular season opener at Niagara where he had 11 points, eight rebounds, and five assists in 26 minutes of action. Hamilton recorded a career-high 11 assists in the win over Nazareth, the most by a UB player so far this season. He then showed his scoring touch in the opener of the Great Alaska Shootout with a career-high 6 points against Alaska-Anchorage, including 29 of those in the second half. The 6 points are tied for 10th in school history for a single game and the most since current teammate CJ Massinburg had 6 last season against Ohio. The 6 points are also tied for eighth most in a single game in the 8-year history of the Great Alaska Shootout. Hamilton added 2 points and eight rebounds in the win over Weber State and he led all scorers in the Great Alaska Shootout field. Hamilton added 21 points against Creighton and 20 points at St. Bonaventure and he scored over 20 points in four of the six games on the previous road trip. Hamilton had his first double-double of the season against Canisius as he finished with 19 points and a season-high 11 rebounds. He led the Bulls in scoring for the sixth time and had his fifth 20-point game against Robert Morris on Dec. 21. Hamilton put up 21 points against Eastern Michigan. He had 17 points, a season-high 1 rebounds, and six assists against Ohio. He added 14 points and nine boards against Ball State. Hamilton just missed out on the first triple-double of his career as he had 15 points, 10 assists, and nine rebounds against Western Michigan. He recorded his second 0-point game of the season at Akron, scoring points on 1-of-16 shooting, including 4-of-4 from behind the arc. He becomes the first UB player with multiple 0-point games in one season since Justin Moss accomplished it in 2014-15. Hamilton stuffed the stat sheet in the home win over Central Michigan as he again just missed out on a triple double with 27 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists. Hamilton continued his torrid pace at Ball State with a game-high 25 points, adding eight more assists against the Cardinals. When leading at halftime 8-4 Free Willie When tied at halftime 1-0 Senior Willie Conner was named the MAC Tournament Most Valuable Player and was also When trailing at halftime 4-8 named to the newly created All-Defensive team following his junior season. Off the floor, Conner continues to be one of the top team leaders for the Bulls and he has been UB s team representative for its relationship with Team IMPACT, a non-profit organization that helps children forget about their illness and become part of something bigger, a team of friends. Conner was one of the most productive players for the Bulls in the season-opener as he led the Bulls with 20 points, including four three-pointers. His four point play late in the second half clinched the game for Buffalo. In the Great Alaska Shootout opener, Conner had 12 points ans five assists, but it was his strong defense that helped shutdown Alaska-Anchorage s top player as Sekou Wiggs went just -of-18 from the field. Conner added 21 points against Creighton, the second time this year he hit the 20-point mark, and the first since the season opener. It has been five straight games where Conner has been given the defensive assignment of the opposing teams top player. On Saturday, he held St. Bonaventure s leading scorer Matt Mobley to just nine points, the first time this season Mobley failed to enter double figures. Conner regained his scoring touch in the win over Coppin State as he tied his career-high with 28 points in the victory, hitting a career-high eight three pointers, tied for the third most in school history. Conner had the first double-double of his career in the win over Bowling Green as he finished with 15 points and a career-high 12 rebounds. David Is Goliath Senior David Kadiri is coming off the best game of his UB career on Saturday against Ball State as he finished with career highs of 2 points and 11 rebounds as he shot 11-of-1 from the floor. He provided a spark in the win over Central Michigan with 1 points and six rebounds. Kadiri is one of four UB players with double figures in blocks as he is second on the team with 17 blocked shots. Kadiri added eight points in the second meeting with the Cardinals and in the season series with Ball State, he averaged 15.5 points per game, going 1-of-16 from the floor. During conference play, Kadiri is averaging 8.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. Nick of Time Another sophomore that had an outstanding first season for the Bulls was Nick Perkins, who continued to improve during each game of the 2015-16 season, culminating in his season-high 20 points in the NCAA Tournament game against Miami (OH). Perkins became the first ever UB player to score 20 points in an NCAA Tournament game and most of that was thanks to his career-high four three pointers in the contest. In the exhibition win over Daemen, Perkins had 25 points, including eight of those coming in the overtime period. Seven of those points came in a row, capped off on a dunk in which he was fouled and completed the four-point play. He had 11 points and eight rebounds in the opener at 5

Perkins led the Bulls with 15 points and seven rebounds against nationallyranked Xavier. He recorded 21 points in the win over Nazareth, adding eight rebounds and a career-best four blocked shots. Perkins recorded his first career double-double, and the first by a UB player this season, on Saturday night with 18 points and 10 rebounds against Weber State. Perkins established a new career high in scoring on Saturday afternoon at St. Bonaventure with 24 points, going 10-of-15 from the floor and tying his career high with four three pointers. Perkins followed that up with 2 points at ACC foe Pittsburgh, going 11-of-18 from the floor. The 11 field goals for Perkins were a career high. Perkins had his second double-double of the year against Robert Morris as he finished with 10 points and a season-high 11 rebounds. Perkins led the Bulls with 21 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Western Michigan. Perkins added 20 points against Miami, the second straight game that he recorded 20 points off the bench. Perkins had another 20-point game against Ball State, doing most of his damage in the first half where he had 17 points in just eight minutes. Perkins had a double-double in the win over Northern Illinois with 11 points and a season-high 12 rebounds. Mass Production It was a successful first year for sophomore CJ Massinburg, who was named to the All-Freshman team following his first year in the Blue and White. Massinburg proved early that he belonged, scoring a team-high 25 points in the exhibition contest against Daemen a year ago. His best game came against Ohio in February where he recorded 6 points vs. the Bobcats, the highest point total by a Buffalo player last year. His 96 points scored last year were the second most ever scored in a season by a UB freshman. Massinburg made his regular season debut on Dec. 7 at Pittsburgh after missing the first eight games of the season due to mononucleosis. He made the most in hist return with 14 points, three rebounds, and five assists in 25 minutes off the bench. Massinburg rejoined the starting lineup for the first time this year and had 15 points and three assists in 22 minutes. Massinburg logged the most minutes of his career in the overtime loss to Canisius as he played 42 minutes, finishing with 16 points and five assists. He added 15 points coming off the bench in the win over Maine. Massinburg recorded his first career double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds against Eastern Michigan. He followed it up with his second straight double-double as he had 16 points and a career-high 11 rebounds against Ohio. Massinburg led the Bulls with 22 points, nine rebounds, and four assists in the win over Kent State. He had a career-high five three pointers in the victory over Central Michigan, scoring 19 points overall against the Chippewas. Massinburg had 17 points in the win over Northern Illinois, including 15 points in the second half. Massinburg followed that performance up with 18 points in the win over Bowling Green. Dontay s Peak Another newcomer that made a solid debut was redshirt sophomore Dontay Caruthers who had four points, three rebounds, and a team-high three steals, including a crucial one in the final 40 seconds of play. Caruthers picked up his first career start against Nazareth and also started in the Great Alaska Shootout opener against Alaska- Anchorage. He recorded a career-best seven points against Nevada, including his first career three-pointer. Caruthers had a huge defensive performance against Maine, as he was credited with drawing four charges. He recorded a career high with 11 points as he started in UB s road win over Kent State. Caruthers also was solid on the defensive end as he became the first Buffalo player this season to record five steals in a game. Caruthers had five steals for the second straight game against Western Michigan and he leads the Bulls with 6 steals on the year. In fact, he has recorded more steals in the last two games (10), than all but two other players on the team have all season. The 10 steals by Caruthers in back-to-back games against Kent State and Western Michigan were the most in a two-game period by a UB player since Byron Mulkey had 1 in the first two games of the 2010-11 season. Caruthers had one of his most difficult matchups defensively against Central Michigan as he had to guard the nation s leading scorer in Marcus Keene. But, Caruthers was up for the challenge as Keene went just 7-of-21 from the floor and turned it over seven times. Caruthers had his best offensive game against Bowling Green as he scored a career-high 18 points, including going 6-of-8 from the floor and 6-for-7 from the free throw line. Familiar Faces The Bulls have three players on this year s team, who all played against each other during the 2014-15 Junior College year in NCJAA Region 5. Senior Willie Conner played at Odessa Community College, while fellow senior David Kadiri spent the year at South Plains Community College. The newest addition is redshirt sophomore Dontay Caruthers, who played his freshman year at Midland College, where he played under current UB assistant coach Bryan Hodgson. Kadiri had the best season of the bunch as he helped lead his squad to a national runner up finish. He had 1 points, 14 rebounds and eight blocked shots in that national championship game. Air Jordan The Bulls have brought in an impressive freshmen class this year, including the services of point guard Davonta Jordan out of Cocoa, FL. Jordan started the season-opener for the Bulls and he was impressive, finishing with six points and seven assists in 2 minutes. The seven assists were the most in a season-opener by a UB player since Alexi Vasiliev had 10 against the Purple Eagles on Nov. 19, 1999. Jordan recorded a career high with 10 assists against Creighton, becoming the first UB freshman with 10 assists in a game since Lamonte Bearden did it against Cornell on Jan., 2015. Jordan reentered the starting lineup against St. Bonaventure and recorded career highs in points (9) and rebounds (6), while adding seven assists. For The Record Buffalo had one of its best three-point shooting days in school history on Dec. 10 in its 87-52 win over Coppin State at Alumni Arena. The Bulls went 15-of-0 from behind the arc with six different players hitting at least one three pointer. The 15 triples are the second most in school history in one game and the most since Buffalo had 14 last season in the semifinals of the MAC Tournament against Ohio. The only time UB had more than 15 threes in a game was back on Feb. 22, 1996 when it had 18 against Troy State. Individually, senior Willie Conner hit a career-best eight three points, which is tied for third most in a single game in school history and the most since Shannon Evans had eight against Cornell on Jan., 2015. Second place belongs to hall of famer Mike Martinho, who had 10 three pointers in that record-breaking game against Troy State. Eric Moore holds the school record of 11 set in 2007 against Bowling Green. For The Record...Part Deux The Bulls had quite the historical evening during their home-opening victory against Nazareth. In the 85-8 win, UB allowed its fewest points in a game since Feb. 1, 1979 against Fredonia State. The Bulls also allowed 47 points fewer in the win over Nazareth than they did three days earlier at Xavier. The 47-point margin between two games is Buffalo s largest since the 1987-88 season when they allowed 125 points to St. Anselm in the season-opener and followed that up by allowing just 67 points in the next game against Queens College. Bulls Add Wes Clark Head coach Nate Oats has announced the addition of Wes Clark to the UB men s basketball program. A transfer from Missouri, Clark will have to sit out the remainder of the season and the first semester next year. He will be able to play the remainder of 2017-18. Clark is from Detroit and played for Oats at Romulus High School. Non-Conference Travels The Bulls traveled over 9,000 miles during non-conference play this season, having played eight of their first nine regular season games away from home, a stretch that concluded Wednesday at Pittsburgh. UB opened the season with a 7666 win at Niagara before falling at nationally-ranked Xavier. Following a victory over Nazareth in the home opener, UB made the long trek to the Great White North when Buffalo played in Anchorage, Alaska for the Great Alaska Shootout. UB made a quick stop in Omaha, NE on the way back to face nationally-ranked Creighton and then returned to Western New York before making a trip down to St. Bonaventure this past Saturday afternoon. The road trip concluded Wednesday night at Pittsburgh. The Bulls finished their road non-conference schedule with two straight trips to the Steel City as they played Robert Morris at the PPG Paints Arena in downtown Pittsburgh on Dec. 21. NATE OATS Position... Head Coach Experience... Second Year Alma Mater...Maranatha Baptist, 98 Nate Oats will begin his second season as head coach of the UB men s basketball program after completing the best season in a school history by a first-year coach. Oats led the Bulls to a 20-win season and their second straight trip to the NCAA Tournament after a thrilling run through the Mid-American Conference Tournament, which culminated in the Bulls cutting down the nets in Cleveland. In his first season, Oats placed two members on the All-MAC Third Team, one one on the All-MAC Freshman Team and one on the newly created All-MAC Defensive Team. The Bulls won the league thanks to a balanced scoring attack that saw four players average at least 11.0 points per game. UB also set single-season records for games played in 2015-16, as well as offensive records for field goals, three pointers, and free throws made and attempted. Oats was named head coach of the UB men s program on April 11, 2015 after spending two seasons as the top assistant and recruiting coordinator for the Bulls. He comes to Buffalo from Romulus High School in Michigan, where he taught and coached one of the top high school basketball programs in the region. After hours of conversations with Nate, it became very clear to me that the best candidate to lead our men s basketball team was already on campus, said former athletic director Danny White. Nate has tremendous experience as one of the finest coaches in America at both the collegiate and high school levels, and played an absolutely critical role in elevating our program to the NCAA Tournament, for the first time ever, in just two years. I am extremely confident that UB men s basketball will continue to grow and reach new heights under Nate s leadership. To be sure, Alumni Arena will be an electric environment again next year as these talented student-athletes fight to defend their Mid-American Conference Championship! In his two seasons as an assistant coach under Bobby Hurley, Oats helped lead the Bulls to a 42-20 record, back-to-back MAC East Titles, a MAC Regular Season Title, a MAC Tournament Title and UB s first ever trip to the NCAA Tournament. Oats was also responsible for recruiting Justin Moss, the 2014-15 MAC Player of the Year. I want to thank President Tripathi, Danny White and our entire administration for giving me this opportunity to lead the men s basketball program, said Oats. I also want to thank Coach Hurley for giving me this opportunity two years ago and the players for helping me get to this current position. I have witnessed the potential of not only our team, but the entire athletic department over the last two years and I can t wait to continue to coach these young men. We are starting to establish a great tradition of success here and I am extremely excited about getting to work with the coaching staff and players in order to focus on carrying that tradition forward into the future. Prior to joining the Bulls, Oats completed 11 seasons as head coach at Romulus High School in Michigan, winning the school s first state title in 27 years in 2012-1 and finished the season 27-1. He was named the 201 Detroit News State Coach of the Year, the Detroit Free Press State Coach of the Year, and BCAM State Coach of the Year. Prior honors include 2009 Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan Class A Coach of the Year, the 2008 Detroit Free Press Metro Detroit Coach of the Year, and the 2005 Detroit News Metro Detroit Coach of the Year & Detroit Free Press Metro West Coach of the Year In his time as head coach, he led the team to a 222-52 overall record and seven straight conference championships while going undefeated in conference play in the past four consecutive seasons. The team was ranked in the top 25 nationally on three different occasions (2010, 2011, 201) and made the Michigan Class A Final Four five times. More importantly, he oversaw a program that had a 100 percent graduation rate and 40 of his 42 seniors at Romulus continuing on to college. Before coaching at Romulus, he played college basketball at Maranatha Baptist University in Wisconsin where was a captain and All-Conference performer, while earning his bachelor s degree in Math Education. University History Here is how the years add up to something big. Through a steady succession of big ideas, big ventures and big achievements, UB has advanced dramatically over the past century and a half. Starting in 1846 as a small, private medical school, we ve grown to become the largest institution in the State University of New York system, and we re charging toward world renown as a top-rated public research university. Our history is proud and prodigious just like UB itself. The University at Buffalo has been a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities since 1989. Through continual growth First was medicine, then pharmacy, followed by law and dentistry: UB in its earliest days was a series of professional schools. The creation of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) in 191 made the university all the richer with its focus on the arts and humanities, natural sciences and social sciences. Students today can choose from 1 schools and colleges, of which CAS is the largest, with 27 departments. 1 2 Through pioneering progress By breaking new ground As UB has evolved through the decades, so has our physical presence. The original downtown medical school moved north in 195 to join the largely E.B. Green-designed Main Street Campus (now the South Campus). Land for the North Campus in suburban Amherst was purchased in 1964. Our newest campus, in downtown Buffalo, has brought the medical school full circle, this time to anchor the city s first academic medical center. Major discoveries are nothing new to UB. From the invention of the implantable cardiac pacemaker to the sequencing of the genome of a common coffee plant, our history is one of continual breakthroughs and innovations by big thinkers in relentless pursuit of answers. Over the years, UB faculty have won the Nobel Prize, the Pulitzer Prize, the National Book Award, the National Medal of Science and the National Medal of Technology. With an ever-expanding vista UB has always been international in outlook and reach. In 4 1980, we were the first U.S. university to partner with a Chinese university following the normalization of relations between the two countries, and have since founded ongoing partnerships in Singapore, India, Poland, Latvia, Japan and Canada. Meanwhile, UB is consistently among the top 20 universities in the country for international student enrollment. With an eye on the future Throughout the years, leadership has maintained an ev- 5 er-evolving and ambitious vision for UB. UB 2020 was launched in 2004 to increase our economic impact, invest in student growth, foster innovative partnerships and advance research that improves life for people across the globe. The related Communities of Excellence initiative, launched in 2015, leverages our passion for innovation and commitment to collaboration to address the most challenging issues facing the planet today. [QUICK FACTS] 1846: The UB Medical School is founded in downtown Buffalo 1886: The School of Pharmacy is established, with the schools of law and dentistry to follow 190: UB more fully coalesces on what is now known as the South Campus 195: UB opens three dormitories to become a residential university 1962: The University of Buffalo merges with the State University of New York 1968: Ground is broken in Amherst on what will become UB s largest campus 201: Ground is broken in downtown Buffalo for the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences DID YOU KNOW?
