FROM THE BRIDGE LAWRENCE SIMPSON, COMMODORE I want to thank all of you for allowing me the privilege of serving as your Commodore in 2013. I hope that all of you had a wonderful and loving Christmas with family, although I know some of you may be on the naughty list after the Dirty Santa party at the club. We did have a good time though, with some great food and the company of wonderful friends. There is so much in our lives to be grateful for. I am looking forward to a good year with more planned activities at the club. Come down and enjoy. After all, it is YOUR club and it needs your support. If any of you have any ideas to make the club a better and more attractive place to be, please let me know. Call me, e-mail me, or catch me at the club and drag me in a corner and let me or any other board member hear it. If anyone is interested in helping the board needs a secretary, some one for the entertainment committee, and junior activities committee. The help would be appreciated. Again this is Your club use it, enjoy it, support it. Lawrence 228-324-2556 raybonels@yahoo.com MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE DIXIE HUCH Welcome aboard to our newest members Richard and Teresa Burton and Millard and Sharon Quigley who were approved for membership by the Board of Governors at the December 17, 2012 meeting: Richard & Teresa Burton of Long Beach Millard & Sharon Quigley of Long Beach Friday Night Lights Things are getting interesting at the Club on Friday Night. The names drawn for the $250 bar tab were Joe Fleming, Daniel Daigle, Nolan Molichek, and the one winner, Don Evans. It looks as though the frequency of Friday Night winners is increasing, so be there to collect yours. LONG BEACH HIGH SCHOOL SAILING Long Beach, Ocean Springs high school sailors place in Sugar Bowl Great Oaks Sailing Regatta. Sailors from Long Beach High School, which are partnered with the Long Beach Yacht Club, and Ocean Springs high school participated in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Great Oaks Sailing Regatta at the Southern Yacht Club in New Orleans. Long Beach placed first and Ocean Springs placed fourth in the Silver Division. After two days and 55 races, the sailors showed their growth and experience by racing consistently in moderate southeasterly wind courses that proved challenging with puffs approaching 20 knots. The teams sail Club 420 dinghies, a two-handed sailboat popular in high school age group regattas around the world. The Mississippi sailors competed against teams from throughout the United States, including Miami, San Francisco, New Jersey and the British Virgin Islands. Reprinted from the SunHerald

HOUSE COMMITTEE JULIE NOBLE Can you believe that 2012 has flown by so quickly? I hope you all have had a wonderful year and 2013 will be healthy, happy and prosperous. We all have much to be thankful for - our Long Beach Yacht Club for one. December was a busy time for all of us including our club. We had our children's Christmas Party on Saturday evening, December 8 th.. A huge Thank You to Jennifer Gundlach for organizing and making this event. It was such a success. I think this was our best yet. The children came in their pajamas and we had hot chocolate, lots of treats (including a chocolate fountain with strawberries, pretzels, marshmallows & graham crackers which was a hit with the kids), movies, ornament making and, of course, Santa Claus. We also enjoyed our own Piper Whittsitt playing her violin. She played Christmas songs and the kids & some of the adults sang along. Thank you Piper. I would also like to thank Michael Gundlach, Shelda Jones, Roy Burke, Mike Moore, Karla Whitsitt (the cookies were beautiful) and Tony & Ann Delorenzo. Thank you to Linda for giving each of the children goodie bags to take home. We appreciate you all. Saturday, December 15 th was our pot luck Christmas dinner and "Dirty Santa" party. I don't know about you all, but I think this was such a wonderful dinner and a fun time. Thank you to June Wiggins and everyone else who helped decorate, prepare and clean up. Please check the calendar and newsletter for all upcoming events. Also, look for flyers and reminders that might be sent to you via email, and, as always, see you at your club.
