The forty or so competitors included returnees Fred Currell (Golf) and David West (Peugeot 106GTi) chasing points in the Service Hydraulics Midland Speed Championship. Their trip north was a successful sortie and they reported both sprints in glowing terms in their championship website. Even further travelled were Gary Dickson and son Danny and they too enjoyed success, the Orcadians occupying the top two places overall each day in their 1000cc Force Blue Star. Most people made the best of the miserable conditions of the first day and at least the wet surface still allowed decent grip and lots of competitive racing. What a difference a dry day makes and Sunday, while not hot enough for record breaking, saw some stirring performances, particularly Saturday: Garry Dickson was the star of the show at Kames Class A1 (Record 95.27): David Reid (Corsa) 101.50. MAY KAMES Part 2 Front cover: Peter Locke at Kames 19/5/13 903) 75.96. Class C5 (Record 63.98): Roy Napier (Gould GR37S) 70.25. Both clubs marshals are deserving of praise, Scottish Sporting for coming through a day of non-stop rain and Machars for travelling all the way up from Newton Stewart, Wigtown and Port William. Right: David Reid has started the season well Below: Barry Taylor in his Fisher Fury. Above: Scott Sheridan lifts a wheel of his Reynard at the Sunday meeting. Left: The MNR Vortx has become popular on speed events these days. This smart version belongs to Colin Tullis. Right: It is not very often we get to see Angus Dow making an error but he did on Sunday, spinning at Paddock Bend, with the Speedsport camera there to record the occasion.

MAY KAMES Part 3 Right: Kevin Clark s Mazda MX5 has a very sleek new livery. Below: Andrew Thoirs won his class both days in his MK Indy. Above, top: Vicky Park didn t like her time so she took it out on the timing gear. Above, lower: Graham Millar s Rotor JT7 is an interesting addition to the C3 line-up. Above, top: Charlie Fleming gets in wrong at Paddock Bend, having studied Angus Dow s technique. Above, lower: A quieter colour scheme for David Loomes s Westfield this season. Right: Another neat paint job. Stuart Dow only ran on Saturday in his Caterham Superlight.

2013 Guyson Scottish Hillclimb Championship FINTRAY May 25 & 2618th Grampian Automobile Club SPOILS SHARED AT FINTRAY Leading Times Saturday Jonathan Rarity 26.73 George Coghill Jr 26.86 Steve Marr 27.17 Les Mutch 28.12 Keith Weeks 28.17 Fergus Duncan 28.38 John Mackenzie 28.51 Donald McCaskill 28.73 Sandy Ingram 28.95 George Coghill Sr 29.13 Sunday George Coghill Jr 2 6. 4 9 Jonathan Rarity 26.97 George Coghill Sr 27.75 Steve Marr 26.97 Keith Weeks 28.14 Les Mutch 28.16 John Mackenzie 28.28 Donald McCaskill 28.30 Fergus Duncan 28.81 Richard Matossian 28.91 Report: Vicky Park Photos: Thompson Photography The first event of the year at Fintray was going to be a success before it even started as the weather forecast for the weekend was fantastic. Mother Nature didn t disappoint and the weekend was a scorcher. This made for some exciting and close run competition in many of the classes. A1 was a family affair with Paul Mitchell beating his wife Gillian, but they were almost split on the Sunday by newcomer Stephen Anderson who took second in class. In A2 Martin Milne, GAC newcomer winner 2012, took top honours both days, proving that experience isn t always necessary to be successful. Doug Ritchie took A3 both days with his Evo 4 which managed to throw massive flames out the exhaust at the hairpin creating some brilliant moments for the many photographers. A4 was yet another class with a family feel, as John Morrison Snr took first place on Saturday with his son, John Jnr evening the score with a fine win on Sunday. Jonathan Neale took top A5 spot both days in the double entered Caterham 7, with Colin McAteer runner-up. That first win for Colin in A5 is still on hold for now. Fastest road car both days came from Class A6 in the form of Craig Nicol. Notable drive in the same class came from newcomer Blair McConnachie who grabbed two second places in class awards behind Alan Nicol. Martin Smith rounded off the road car classes with double wins in A8. The Modified classes were entertaining as ever with a few new class records being set over the weekend. Eileen Wood was flying solo in her Nova in B1 and took full points both days. B2 was a well subscribed class in which Aonghus Drummond took the win both days in his Integra along with a new class record on the Saturday. B3 was dominated as ever by Donald Mad Mac McCaskill in his Evo, taking fastest modified car on Saturday. Sandy Ingram in his Sylva Riot took top A4 spot on Saturday but then broke a drive shaft on Sunday, giving Trevor Park chance to grab the Sunday win. A notable entry in B4 was Eric Kiltie, who made his return to the sport at the track where he had a terrible crash two years ago. His return was aided by Murray Marshal whom allowed Eric to use his car and Eric then allowed Sandy Ingram to double enter when his Riot broke. This was a true motorsportsmanship at it best! In B6 Les Mutch was unstoppable in the Dax, taking a new class record on Saturday then following it up with fastest modified car time on Sunday. Another class record was broken both days by Scott Beattie in his Fiesta in the first of the competition car classes, C0. Drew Murray has clearly created a fantastic self-built car as he took wins both days in his C1 car, the DMS. In C2, John Mackenzie proved that four years away from Fintray had not made him forget how to drive the hill well, taking wins both days and only 0.18 away from his class record set in 2009. Another well subscribed class as ever was C4, in which Steve Marr took wins both days and a new class record in his PCD Saxon. Another notable result in this class was Lesley Sheridan beating her husband, Scott on Saturday, then taking the Ladies outright track record from Jennifer Bremner on Sunday with a time of 29.75. John Plenderleith was getting to grips with his new Reynard with wins in C6. Overall wins went to Jonathan Rarity on Saturday with a time of 26.73 and George Coghill Jnr in a 26.49 run on Sunday. George Jnr s Sunday win came after a steering arm was sheered on Saturday but was welded well and fixed for Sunday. All in all, a great weekend of racing with great weather which has been rare in recent times at Fintray. Saturday: Class A1 (Record 35.44): Paul Mitchell (Metro) 38.63, Gillian Mitchell (Metro) 40.09, Stephen Anderson (Peugeot Rallye) 40.22. However, a lot of hard work by all concerned saw the course operational months before we had earlier thought possible from photographs in the media. By comparison, the cloudburst on Saturday afternoon which turned the results sheet almost upside-down paled into insignificance and the marshals, for their first-day discomfort were rewarded with a sunny, if a little cold Sunday. The track was in good condition, but never warm enough for record breaking other than in Class A1 where Jody Gordon took half a second off the previous best A1 time for Littleferry and David Reid set a new target for the Kylestrome layout. The opening day produced rather freakish results, but all credit to John Morrison and son John Jr for taking full advantage of the circumstances and securing and the overall runner-up spot in their shared MNR Vortx. Sanity was restored for the second meeting when racing cars dominated the leading overall times. Ross Napier used the massive power of the family Gould GR37S to pull over two seconds clear of the field. FORRESTBURN HIT BY VANDALS Monklands Sporting Car Club have been plagued over the years by vandalism at their Forrestburn Hillclimb site, but the recent attack has been the most serious yet. Substantial damage to steel containers and a portakabin written off left the club with a number of major problems just a few weeks before the big June hillclimb meeting. However a gigantic effort by MSCC members and friends have resulted in much of the destroyed equipment, etc. being replaced so that the Scottish Championship doubleheader can go ahead as planned.
