michelinalley.com s rain or shine solution News From the FIA Formula E Championship - 2015 Electrifying Formula E FIA FORMULA E HITS THE STREETS OF MIAMI AND LONG BEACH

No 2 MIAMI The new FIA Formula E Championship, a singleseater championship and the world s first fullyelectric racing series, arrives in the United States with races in Miami, Fla. and Long Beach, Ca. this spring. As the world s leading manufacturers and technology developers continue to push the envelope for electric vehicle performance, the exciting new global motorsports championship has been created to accelerate and demonstrate electric vehicles. The inaugural season began in Beijing in September 2014 and continued with races in Putrajaya, Punta Del Este and Buenos Aires. Following the Miami and Long Beach events, the 2014/2015 championship will compete in Monte Carlo, Berlin, Moscow and London. A total of 10 teams, each with two drivers, race on temporary city-center circuits creating a unique and exciting series designed to appeal to a new generation of motorsports fans. Formula E also aims to represent a vision for the future of the motor industry, serving as a framework for R&D around the electric vehicle, accelerating general interest in these cars and promoting clean energy and sustainability. From season two beginning later this year, Formula E will operate as an open championship, allowing teams and manufacturers the opportunity to showcase their own electrical energy innovations. Working to the technical specifications set out by the FIA, teams will focus their efforts on improving and developing powertrains and battery technology, with the aim of this filtering into the everyday electric vehicle market. The championship centers around three core values of Energy, Environment and Entertainment and is a fusion of engineering, technology, sport, science, design, music and entertainment - all combining to drive the change towards an electric future. All Formula E rounds are one day events with practice, qualifying and the race taking place in a single day in order to reduce costs and minimize disruption to the host city. PRACTICE Each event opens with a 45-minute practice session followed by a further 30-minute session, giving drivers their first experience of the circuit. They will have up to two cars available to them giving them the option to change cars should they wish. Full power (200kw / 270bhp) will be available throughout. QUALIFYING Ame welc Form The qualifying session is a straight fight for the fastest lap time and determines the order for the day s race. The session will last 55 minutes (40 minutes track) and see drivers divided into four groups of five cars, with each group having 10 minutes to set their best time. Full power (200kw / 270bhp) will be available throughout with drivers only able to use one car. The driver setting the fastest time will be awarded three points.

LONG BEACH 3 rth rica omes ula E eprix PIT STOPS FAN BOOST TITLES Races will begin by standing start and last for approximately one hour with drivers making one mandatory pit stop in order to change cars. Power will be restricted to race mode (150kw / 202.5bhp) but for those drivers with FanBoost, the power output can be temporarily increased to 180kw / 243bhp for five seconds per car. Points will be awarded using the standard FIA system with the driver setting the fastest lap also receiving two additional points. During races, drivers must make one mandatory pit stop in order to change cars. This must take place in their pit box and be observed by an FIA steward to ensure all safety equipment is correctly applied. A minimum time period (determined on the day) will also be enforced. Tire changes, unless a puncture, are not permitted during this pit stop. Fans can give their favorite driver an extra speed boost by voting for them prior to the race. The three drivers with the most votes will each receive a five-second power boost per car per driver, temporarily increasing their car s power from 150kw to 180kw. The FIA Formula E Championship will consist of both a drivers and a teams championship. A driver s end of season total is made up of his/ her best results less one. A team s total is made up by counting all scores during the season.

4 has always seen motorsport as an essential laboratory which leads to innovations that ultimately serve everyday tires. To be able to test tires in the uniquely extreme conditions encountered in racing and rallying provides with an opportunity to learn more and also showcase the value of the solutions the company develops for ordinary motorists. s involvement in the FIA Formula E Championship is further evidence of their commitment to enhanced mobility through the extraordinary challenges and opportunities the series provides. The MICHELIN Pilot Sport EV, which has been specially developed for Formula E, alludes to MICHELIN street tires and is a sneak peak at the Ultra High Performance tires to come. The MICHELIN Pilot Sport EV grooved tire is the first 18-inch tire to be used on a single-seater race-car. This new size, both narrower and taller, is part of the fundamental work done by s development teams towards reducing rolling resistance which is directly linked to energy use. By adopting the 18 rim size, widely used on road cars, Formula E becomes a more effective test-bed for s next-generation road tires, continuing its drive to transfer technology from racetrack to road. We designed the tires to be both energy-efficient and more like road tires, said Pascal Couasnon, Director of Motorsports. As a consequence, the new FIA Formula E Championship will serve as a life-size laboratory that will help to prepare its tires of the future. Thanks to the low profile sidewalls the tire is subject to less deformation when running, which reduces the heat buildup and its impact on fuel consumption as it improves the energy efficiency of the tire. To aid with sustainability and costsaving, each Formula E driver will be supplied with just five new front tires and five new rear tires to last them the entire day (practice, qualifying and race), whatever the weather. On wet or dry tracks, whether it is hot or cold, all competitors will keep the same tires, with no detriment either to safety or to performance. In ordinary traffic, drivers don t use slick tires on their road cars, not even sporty road cars, said Nicolas Goubert, Motorsports Technical Director. The FIA Formula E Championship will use city center street circuits, so our aim was to design tires with tread patterns. The closer we are to the realities of everyday motoring, the more relevant and also speedier the carry-over of technology from the race track to road tires becomes. Delivering consistent and efficient performance wet or dry further demonstrates the real strength of the MICHELIN Pilot Sport EV: its sheer versatility, which also means that can reduce the number of tires made and transported to each race to further reduce environmental impact. Formula E sits perfectly alongside s own values, including the innovative spirit that has been part of s DNA since the company was founded more than 120 years ago. has always championed mobility, and sustainable mobility in particular; it has also been a key technical player in some remarkable adventures.

All FIA Formula E Championship teams will compete with the Spark-Renault SRT_01E, the first car to be homologated by the FIA. Using the very latest technology, the zero emission SRT_01E aims to stretch the boundaries of what is currently achievable in electric motorsports, whilst ensuring a balance between cost-effectiveness and sustainability, in addition to coping with the demands of racing entirely on street circuits. The car has been built by the French company, Spark Racing Technology, together with a consortium of some of the leading companies in motorsports. Italian firm Dallara, who boast more than 40 years motorsports experience, have constructed the monocoque chassis, aerodynamically designed to aid overtaking. Made from carbon fiber and aluminum, the chassis is both super lightweight (minimum weight including driver 896 kg) and incredibly strong and fully complies with the latest FIA crash tests - the same used to regulate Formula One. Providing the electric powertrain and electronics is McLaren Electronics Systems, the world leader in high-performance technology for motorsports. Meanwhile, Williams Advanced Engineering, part of the Williams group of companies that includes the world famous Williams F1 Team, will supply the batteries producing 200kw, the equivalent of 270bhp. This will be linked to a fivespeed paddle shift sequential gearbox, supplied by Hewland, with fixed ratios to help reduce costs further. Overseeing all the systems integration will be the Championship s Technical Partner Renault, a leader of electric vehicles and an expert in motorsports thanks to its Renault Sport Technologies and Renault Sport F1 programs. The Spark-Renault SRT_01E has a maximum speed of 140 mph (225km/h) and will accelerate from zero to 60 mph in three seconds. 5 Spark-Renault SRT_01 Dimensions Overall length: 5000mm (max) Overall width: 1800mm (max) Overall height: 1250mm (max) Track width: 1300mm (min) Ride Height: 75mm (max) Minimum weight (inc driver): 896kg (batteries 320kg) Power Maximum power: 200kw, equivalent to 270bhp Race mode (power-saving): 150kw, equivalent to 202.5bhp FanBoost (race-only): Temporarily increases max power from 150kw to 180kw. (Increase of 30kw / 40.5bhp) Traction battery The traction battery is a Rechargeable Energy Storage System (RESS) and supplies electric energy to the Power Circuit and thus to the traction motor. Any onboard battery electrically connected to the Power Circuit is considered to be an integral part of the vehicle s traction battery.

They plan on distributing $100,000 in new /FIA Teen Road Safety Grants in 2015. The grants continue the goals of s Beyond the Driving Test campaign, launched in partnership with the FIA in 2014 to raise awareness of tire maintenance and safety among new drivers. Miami and Los Angeles were chosen in this pilot program to align with the U.S. stages of the FIA Formula E Championship. For more information, please visit www.beyondthedrivingtest.com/ Miami returns Formula E is poised to mark a return to Miami s motorsports roots when it visits the Florida cities Bayfront Park. Miami has not hosted a major motorsports event in twelve years since the 2003 American Le Mans Series Americas Grand Prix. The Formula E paddock in Miami looks out over Biscayne Bay, while the street circuit uses Biscayne Boulevard before running alongside Museum Park in route to the American Airlines Arena. The 2.17 km street circuit features eight turns with a number of long straights and 90-degree corners. Back to the beach! Long Beach first hosted a motorsports race in 1975 and is currently the longest running street circuit in the United States. The 2.1km seven turn circuit will use the same iconic start/finish line adjacent to the Long Beach Marina before heading off in a clockwise direction past the Rainbow Lagoon before turning right onto South Pine Avenue and then re-joining with the more familiar track configuration.

S The need to create fast, dependable and durable race cars will help to accelerate the sector and showcase electric cars to a large global audience.
