Page 2 FRY NEWS ACCESS Testing for ELL Students The ELL department will be starting the annual ACCESS testing on January 17th, which is administered to all of our ELL students. All ELL students, in all grades, will be tested in the following areas: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. We look forward to excellent results as in the past years. It is extremely important that all of our children get a good night rest along with a healthy breakfast. All of the grades have continued to show a good improvement with academics and are working very hard! Thank you and GOOD LUCK! ELL Teachers SLIME NIGHT is coming! Watch for details!

Page 3 Boots are not allowed to be worn throughout the school day. Please be sure to send shoes for your child to change into upon arrival!

Page 4 FRY NEWS Those little Box Tops add up! Last year we earned more than $1600 that helped fund assemblies, paid a large amount of the costs of field trips and bus fees. Earn bonus Box Tops here! They even have an app! Click here! DON T FORGET TO READ!! Reading logs must be turned in to Ms. Tunney in the library no later than February 15th. Students must complete 6 hours (360 minutes) of recreational reading to earn one FREE Six Flags ticket. Students can read books, ebooks, magazines, newspapers or comic books (digital or hardcopy). Reading for homework or a class assignment does NOT count. What is too sick for school? Consider keeping your child at home for an extra day of rest and observation if he or she has any of the following symptoms: Very stuffy or runny nose and/or cough Headache Mild stomach ache Mild sore throat (no fever, no known exposure to strep) Definitely keep your child at home for treatment and observation if he or she has any of these symptoms: Fever (greater than 100 degrees by mouth) Vomiting (even once) Diarrhea Chills General malaise or feelings of fatigue, discomfort, weakness or muscle aches Frequent congested (wet) or croupy cough Lots of nasal congestion with frequent blowing of nose

Page 5 Family Reading Night! Dear Fry Families, Mark your calendars for Wednesday, January 31st, Family Reading Night at Fry School. In keeping with our school theme, Fry School: An Ocean of Possibilities, we will be reading the book titled, The Great White Man-Eating Shark: a Cautionary Tale, by Margaret Mahy. You will then be invited to participate in various activities related to the book. There will also be a chance to win a prize. Light refreshments will be served. A flyer with more details will be sent home with your child(ren). If you will be joining us, please return the RSVP that will be at the bottom of the invitation so that we will know how many guests to plan for. We hope that you will swim over to Fry School and join us for this enjoyable, family-oriented literacy event. Our Free Little Library in front of our building is always looking for children s book donations.

Page 6 FRY NEWS 5th Grade T.A.B. TAB (Teaching Artistic Behavior) is a new innovative approach to art education. Research suggests it helps students develop problem-solving skills and increase critical thinking. It incorporates choice because students choose their subject matter and medium of artistic expression. Students are encouraged to use the skill they learned through instruction to develop their own style of art and have to work (sketch, develop and clean up) like an artist. Students complete this project by filling out an artists statement and displaying their work. Would you like to see more of the wonderful art projects Fry Students have created? Follow Ms. Gallagher on Twitter @MrsG_Art
