Texas 4 H Roundup 4 H Recipe Rally In the 4-H Recipe Rally, intermediate and senior 4-H members are challenged with selecting, creating, and/ or altering a recipe and submitting a video. The video highlights the 4-H member(s) demonstrating the preparation of the receipt while also highlighting nutrients, food safety practices, serving size and cost analysis, as well as their inspiration for selection or creation of the recipe. For 2014, youth may enter as an individual or a team. The theme for the 2014 contest is Breakfast. East Region Shooting Sports (NEW) Coaches Training State Dog Show Validation Validation is now open on 4-H Connect if you would like to show a dog through 4-H or are interested in this project. Validation for dogs will be open until January 10th Please contact the Extension Office for more information. Training to take place in Tyler, January 25-26. Must attend both days of training. Coaches are needed for archery, pistol, shotgun, rifle coach, and muzzle loader. If you are interested contact the Extension Office. Registration will open December 5th-January 9th. Must be registered on 4-H Connect and pass screening process by January 9, 2014. Postal League There is still time to register but you must do so by calling the Extension Office by January 25th, 2014 Youth Advisory Board Rusk County is looking for smart young men and women to serve on its youth board. This board serves the entire county and assists the 4-H agent with educational planning for local school districts and the county programs offered through Texas A&M AgriLife Extension. If you know anyone who would make a great youth board member if you would please notify me by either phone or email I would really appreciate it. Qualifications: Does not have to be a 4-H member just a member of Rusk county Is 14 or older Wants to make a difference in their community Has a heart for serving others in their area Wants to see youth empowered/or wants to be an empowered youth Has the ability to make quarterly or biyearly meetings for the board Wants to serve Has ideas for new things in the community Extension Office closed for Holidays - December 24th & 25th Horse Project News Pending weather: December 15th, - Practice at Kilgore Saddle Club arena. Taxidermy Workshop December 17th will be a hands-on workshop learning about a new project in the 4-H program. Come with ideas of what you would like to do! Cherry Dessert Contest Registration Deadline - Currently and to Check-In Time Where: Rusk County Extension Office Meeting Room 115 East Fordall Street Henderson, TX 75652 When: February 14, 2014 Time: 10:00-11:00 a.m.-entry/check-in 11:00 a.m.-judging begins Around 1:30 p.m.-pick up Entry Fee: $1.00 Age Divisions: Junior - 6-11 years old Intermediate -12-13 years old Senior-14-18 years old Adults-19 plus 4 H meeting was held at Mt. Enterprise Community Center. We selected hoodies and t shirts. Next meeting is December 15, at 2:00 p.m. We will have a Christmas Ornament Exchange. Bring snacks and drinks for our party at the next meeting Submitted by Hannah Heathco. *Any dessert not picked up by 5:00 p.m. will be discarded. Recipes must be attached to bottom of dish with the name on back of recipe. Recipes will not be returned. Recipes may be compiled into a recipe book at a later date. 7. Desserts will be judged on appearance, taste, and originality. 8. Participants must complete an entry form and submit with $1.00 fee to the Extension Office at check-in. 9. Entry fee goes toward annual Rusk County Extension Education Club sponsored scholarships for Rusk County residents. Mt. Austin Experimental Forest in Nacogdoches, (L-R) Kaleb Horne, Macey Stanley, Alden Utzman. In addition, Kaleb Horne was the high point individual. Macey Stanley was 5th place individual, and Alden Utzman was third place individual. Not pictured are Dalton McKee and Holli Williams. Parents and youth should make sure that they will be able to commit to participate in the major show in question the following year. They have to be willing to invest the money, time, and transportation of themselves and their project to their respective show. Entry applications will also be available on the Stock Show website fwssr.com on October 1. 2. Entries are sent directly to the show. 3. Entries accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. 4. Each County 4-H Program is limited to a maximum of six entries. Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo March 4-23 Purchase certificate value of $1,500 Certificates used to purchase a breeding beef or dairy heifer or market steer Must show the animal in the 2015 Houston Livestock Show 1. Online entry applications will be available on the Livestock Show website hlsr.com from October 1 through December 1. 2. Entries will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo March 1-16 Ultimate Scramble Championship Purchase certificate value of at least $1000 while others could be awarded $1,500, $2,000, $2,500, or $5,000 Certificates used to purchase market or breeding animals. Must show the animal in the 2015 Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo. Entries begin October 1 directly to the show. Entry fee is $25. This show benefits everyone in our 4-H program as the money goes toward county awards, entries for state level events, scholarship monies and other needed items. If you can let us know where you would like to work by December 31, 2013 we can have a schedule set up.
