FEBRUARY 2017 MORE SPEED SKATING PODIUM FINISHES The New Zealand Speed Skating team continue their successful season with Peter Michael winning New Zealand s first ever Gold Medal in the Mens 5,000m at the World Cup in Astana and finishing second behind Canadian Ted-Jan Bloeman and ahead of the Dutch skater Jorrit Bergsma in the Mens 5,000m event at the ISU World Cup in Berlin in January. Peter also received the Bronze medal for the Men s 1,500m event in the same competition. Another Bronze medal was Peter s reward for the 5,000m at the World Single Distance Championships in Korea where the Peter, Reyon Kay and Shane Dobbin also took out the Silver for the Mens Team Pursuit. == ASIAN WINTER GAMES == Currently two short track and one speed skater (Long Track) are on their way to compete in the Asian Winter Games being held in Sapporo Japan. Chris Jarden, Ben Whiteside and Sasha Faris will be joined by Ken Howie, Team Leader for this prestigeous event being held from 20 23 February.
